FEI Solidarity Launched with Unanimous Support of National Federations

The creation of FEI Solidarity was unanimously approved by the National Federations gathered in Lausanne (SUI). (c) Hugues Siegenthaler/FEI

Lausanne (SUI), 6 May 2011 – FEI Solidarity, modelled on the hugely successful Olympic Solidarity programme, has been enshrined in the FEI constitution with the unanimous approval of National Federations attending today’s FEI Extraordinary General Assembly in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne (SUI). FEI Solidarity, which aims to organise assistance to the National Federations, in particular those which have the greatest need, has now been drafted into the FEI Statutes. Assistance from the FEI Solidarity programme will take the form of programmes created jointly by the FEI and the National Federations.

“Today is a very special day for the FEI,” FEI President HRH Princess Haya said. “Thanks to our member federations, the FEI’s development efforts have now been given the prominent place in our Statutes that they so richly deserve. FEI Solidarity is a mirror of Olympic Solidarity and I am incredibly grateful to the IOC for guiding us through the creation of this new structure. For years we in the FEI have been struggling to find the best mechanism to deliver development to our sport and today our National Federations have given us a concrete solution.”

“I would like to congratulate the FEI on this exceptional initiative,” IOC President Jacques Rogge commented. “FEI Solidarity, following the example of Olympic Solidarity, will be providing assistance to the national equestrian federations, particularly to those with the greatest needs, so that they can develop their own potential and expand the sport in their country. This shows how committed the FEI is to the global future of equestrian sport and I am confident that the newly created FEI Solidarity will be very successful.”

Ocala, FL (May 5, 2011) – Classical Dressage Master Walter Zettl has built his successful dressage career on understanding the relationship between the horse and rider.  Zettl coaches Linda and Pat Parelli, founders of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Inc., and regularly conducts private dressage clinics at the Parellis’ Ocala facility. Zettl recently spent time in Ocala with the Parellis, teaching and being taped for dressage videos which will appear on the Dressage Training Online website.

“The Dressage Training Online website is a wonderful venue for us to be included in,” said Linda Parelli. “Walter is a great bridge for us because he believes in what we are doing in natural horsemanship and he sees how closely our approach relates to the principles of truly classical dressage.”

Zettl taught lessons and was taped for the Dressage Training Online segments with Linda and her horse West Point as well as with Canadian Para-Equestrian Team member Lauren Barwick, a para-equestrian who won Gold and Silver Medals in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. KAM DTX- Formula – A New Detox Product from KAM Animal Services

With Spring already here, protecting horses against environmental toxins is an important goal for KAM Animal Services.  So many things that surround our horses result in their bodies becoming toxic, from man-made pollutants, contaminated feeds and water, and natural stress, such as storms or draught.  KAM DTX-Formula, a new advanced environmental body detoxification product recently created by KAM Animal Services, was developed for just this purpose.

KAM Animal Services has been working on producing this product for awhile now but never finalized the ingredients.  However, recently when more and more clients approached the company about creating a product that would protect horses against environmental toxins the staff began the necessary research.  They wanted to find the right combination of ingredients that would work well together to detoxify toxic horses.  KAM DTX-Formula is the result of that research.

“As a horse owner myself, I was also concerned with giving my horses a product that would be a complete environmental body detoxification solution,” explained Gabriele Sutton, owner of KAM Animal Services.  “I worked closely with the researchers to ensure KAM DTX-Formula had all the right ingredients to get the best results.  KAM DTX-Formula has turned out to be everything I was hoping for.”

Bonnie-Jill Laflin, NBA’s 1st Female Scout, Joins AWI in Full Court Press to End Horse Slaughter

(Washington, DC) – The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) is pleased to welcome television sports personality and NBA insider Bonnie-Jill Laflin to AWI’s campaign to end horse slaughter.  Bonnie-Jill — a member of the LA Lakers front office and the NBA’s first and only female scout — has been actively involved in the horse community her entire life.  She will help AWI expand its efforts to educate the American public and Members of Congress about the continuing cruelty of horse slaughter.

”It is hard to fathom that we still permit the slaughter of American horses,” said Bonnie-Jill. “Horses are powerful and intelligent, and a symbol of American freedom and spirit — they deserve more respect.  I’m anxious to partner with AWI to build support for protecting these graceful and amazing athletes.”

AWI began the national campaign to end horse slaughter in 2001, after witnessing the abuse of horses collected by killer-buyers at a livestock auction in Pennsylvania.  Over the past decade, AWI has documented inhumane conditions at horse slaughter facilities and during horse transport throughout the U.S. and across the border.  Although horse slaughter plants — operating in the U.S. as recently as 2007 — are dormant for now, the same numbers of American horses are being slaughtered.  Sadly, the only thing that has changed is the location of the slaughterhouses — now across the border in Canada and Mexico.
