A rehoming foundation for all of God’s Creatures

The Ravenwood Farm Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to help all animals that for reasons beyond their control have been placed in a homeless position. The foundation is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers who devote their time, energies, their homes and barns to the rehab and placement of these animals in their new forever homes.

If you have a little extra love, a little extra space or an empty stall. We need your help. Horses, Dogs, Cats and all species are being abandoned and dumped every day. The animal rescues, humane societies and animal controls are beyond capacity.

Do you have space for one? Can you foster for us? We would love for you to provide a forever home to one of our beautiful creatures.

Chester Weber’s Jamaica Featured in “Beloved Horses in Second Careers” Book to Be Released in September

Ocala, FL (August 30, 2010) – Jamaica, Chester Weber’s award-winning combined driving horse who was rescued from a slaughterhouse in Belgium, captured the nation’s attention when he won the most prestigious horse title in the country and became the USEF Farnam Platform Horse of the Year. Now, Jamaica’s rags to riches story is being told in the book Beloved Horses in Second Careers (Infinity Publishing) which will be released in September.

Written by Sharon Miner, the book focuses on horses who started their career in one discipline and then went on to have rewarding second careers. Jamaica’s “second career” turned out to be an amazing one, as he famously became part of Weber’s record-breaking international Four-In-Hand Combined Driving team. Jamaica, now 19, was a member of seven of Weber’s National Four-In-Hand Combined Driving National Championship teams.

British Actor Jeremy Irons Supports 2010 FEI Awards

25 August 2010 – Distinguished British actor and enthusiastic horseman Jeremy Irons is supporting the 2010 awards organised by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the governing body of horse sport. He is calling on the equestrian community to nominate deserving individuals before the 30 August deadline.

Irons, whose acting career spans theatre, TV and cinema, is well known for his roles in films such as The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), Dead Ringers (1988), Reversal of Fortune (1990), Damage (1993), Lolita (1997), The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Appaloosa (2008). His talent has earned him many prestigious Best Actor awards.

Commenting on the FEI Awards, Irons said:

“As a keen rider, I can think of nothing better than to celebrate those individuals who dedicate so much of their time, energy and love to the sport. The FEI Awards are a unique chance for you to nominate and celebrate those individuals whose devotion deserves recognition.”

New Opportunities for Palominos

PHBA has adopted a new horse registration system that will improve turnaround and processing times for members and Palomino owners.

This new system will provide PHBA members a faster and more convenient way to register horses, at a cost savings for the association. PHBA maintains records on more than 88,000 horses and owners, more than 250,000 horse show entries and more than five hundred horse shows. This system will provide unprecedented customer service for these members.

Palomino horses registered with the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, American Holsteiner Horse Association, Pinto Horse Association of America, Appaloosa Horse Club, Jockey Club (Thoroughbreds), American Saddle Horses, Arabians, Half Arabs, Morgans, Tennessee Walking Horses, Mountain Pleasure Horses, Morabs, Quarabs, Missouri Fox Trotters and Rocky Mountain Horses are eligible for registration with PHBA provided the horse meets color and white rules.

PHBA’s Mission Statement:

  • To record and preserve the pedigree of the Palomino Horse while maintaining the integrity of the breeds.
  • To provide beneficial services for its members which enhance and encourage Palomino ownership and participation.

United States Para-Equestrian Association Recognizes Para-Equestrian Horse Owners of 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

Thousand Oaks, CA – August 23, 2010 – The United States Para-Equestrian Association would like to thank the owners of each horse that has been named to the nominated entry for the 2010 United States Para-Equestrian Dressage Team.  These horses will have a chance to compete at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (2010 WEG).

As September approaches many equestrians are making their last preparations before their trip to Lexington, KY.  One of the Para-Equestrian Team members is Becca Hart who has been riding her own horse Norteassa and Kerri Sowers’ talented gelding Kazan over the last year.  Both horses have led Hart to the 2010 USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championship and reserve championship titles.  At this point, the horse that Hart will be riding at the 2010 WEG has not been decided.  Hart and Kerri Sowers friendship began at Blue Hill Farm riding under Jessica and Missy Ransehousen.  Not long ago Hart was given the opportunity to ride Sowers’ horse Kazan while Norteassa was resting. Together Hart and Kazan have made a great team.  Sowers noted, “I have been very proud of Becca and Kazan.  Kazan has proven himself in competition time and time again over the years and always has his best performances when the competitive pressure is the greatest! I would like to wish Becca the best of luck competing at WEG regardless of which horse will be chosen.”

SAUGERTIES, NY (August 24, 2010) — Todd Minikus and Little Annie, owned by Todd Minikus LTD, captured Sunday’s $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, to highlight the Winston National at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia.

The win marked Minikus’ eighth Grand Prix needed to become eligible for the Pfizer Million and he now enters the top 20 of the Eligible Rider Rankings at number 17.

Minikus, of Loxahatchee, Florida, and Little Annie were one of 25 horse-and-rider combinations to ride the course designed by Jerry Dougherty of Bokeelia, Florida, which saw six pairs advance to the jump-off.

“I thought Jerry [Dougherty] did a great job setting the course and getting six clean,” said Minikus.

KAM Cartoon Calendar

KAM Animals Services is creating a unique 2011 calendar for this upcoming holiday season.  Using the skill of its illustrator, KAM is creating a fun calendar for all kinds of equine businesses and services.  Each page will include a cute cartoon of the month based around a particular type of equine business or service.

Since there are only 12 months in a year, this means that will be the limit to how many companies can have a graphic designed especially for them.  Your creative cartoon would tie your business into one or more months.

Calendars can also be personalized with a business name visible on every month and you can choose a month to not only add a coupon but notification tips can be placed throughout the calendar.

“What makes this calendar different than others are the wonderful creative horse illustrations that will make anyone smile.  The focus could be for a tack shop, saddlemaker, feed company, clothier, boot company or anyone else in the horse business,” said Gabriele Sutton, owner of KAM Animal Services.

FEI Award Win Continues to Motivate Haitian Para-Equestrian

19 August 2010 – As the nomination deadline approaches for the annual awards organised by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the Haitian Para-Equestrian winner of last year’s FEI Against All Odds Award is calling on the equestrian community to nominate individuals whose efforts deserve acknowledgement.

The Against All Odds Award is given to an individual who has overcome personal setbacks or physical disabilities to pursue equestrian sport. It is one of five FEI Awards that reward outstanding dedication to horse sport.

Orphan Darlene Milord, who was born with the medical condition hemiplegia, has represented her country at the Special Olympics. Her passion for horses evolved from the riding therapy she received as part of a special needs programme at the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage in Haiti.

Lauren Sammis and Charles Owen Team Up at the USEF Dressage Festival of Champions to Raise Funds and Helmet Awareness

Gladstone, NJ (August 19, 2010) – Dressage rider Lauren Sammis, who earned a Gold Medal at the Pan American Games, awarded fellow dressage rider Crystal Gaskell with a brand new Charles Owen helmet during the 2010 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions. Gaskell, of Cazenovia, New York, won the helmet through a Charles Owen Helmet raffle, in support of the Riders4Helmets campaign started by SUCCEED, with all the proceeds from the raffle going to the USET Foundation.

“I always ride in a helmet and I was looking for a new helmet so this works out great,” said Gaskell, adding that she was extremely excited about winning the raffle. “I have a 23-year-old Dutch horse that I ride named Figaro. He did his first grand prix with my daughter when he was 21.”

Sammis, who competed at the Dressage Festival of Champions on Sagacious HF, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding owned by Al Guden of Hyperion Farm, was pleased to award Gaskell with her new helmet. A strong supporter of all riders wearing helmets, Sammis wore a helmet during the Dressage Festival of Champions, as did competitor Sue Blinks.
