St. Louis, MO (September 10, 2010) – Shawn Flarida, the National Reining Horse Association’s Three Million Dollar Winner, is headed to the World Equestrian Games on RC Fancy Step as part of the US Reining Team. Flarida and RC Fancy Step, owned by the Plummer Family of SDP Buffalo Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas, clinched a spot on the WEG Reining Dream Team after winning a gold medal at the Battle in the Saddle in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In addition to hard work and talent, Flarida believes there is a third component to RC Fancy Step’s winning abilities — STEADFAST EQUINE, a joint health product specifically designed for horses with a high-demand lifestyle which supports total structural joint integrity. STEADFAST EQUINE is sold by Arenus, a premier provider of innovative health and nutritional products for pets and horses, featuring the ASSURE, STEADFAST, EQUILITE, ALEIRA, RELEIRA and SORE NO-MORE product families.

Edwina Alexander – Rolex Diaries for World Equestrian Games

Edwina Alexander is writing a diary for horsesinthesouth.com as she prepares for the 2010 Global Champions Tour (GCT) and the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG). Here is Edwina’s fifth entry…

Events since Aachen…

Since the CHIO Aachen, I have been focusing on getting my horses more organised. I took my new mare (Ciske van Overis) to Valkenswaard to compete in the CSI2*. She was very good, placing third in the first Grand Prix and in the second Grand Prix, she had one fence down. I also took my new six-year-old horse (Quimono de la Roque) to Valkenswaard and I’m now preparing him for Lanaken. He did exceptionally well there, placing in every class over the two shows. Itot has also been on a programme – in Chantilly, straight after Aachen, he jumped very well with three clear rounds but I slipped a bit in the jump-off and we ended up third. In Valkenswaard, I went for a good time and unfortunately, he knocked a couple down in the second round.

Free-to-view Video Footage of FEI NSAIDs Congress Now Available

10 September 2010 – Following the success of last month’s FEI Congress on the in-competition use of NSAIDs, free-to-view videos of the entire event are now available on the FEI website here.

The Congress, which received widespread acclaim for the high calibre of speakers and the level of debate, was held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland on 16/17 August and attracted over 200 delegates from 29 countries.

Presentations on both the scientific and non-scientific data available on NSAID usage and medication in the equine athlete featured at the Congress, generating lively debate during the panel sessions. The video coverage of the Congress now provides a valuable tool for all those interested in this debate – particularly those who were unable to attend the Congress – to access the most up-to-date information on the issue.

Dressage Committee Puts Forward Proposed Changes for Judging System

8 September 2010 – Following the FEI Dressage Committee meeting in Mannheim (GER) on 27 and 28 August, the Committee has put forward proposed changes for the judging system to be presented at the upcoming FEI General Assembly in Taipei (1-6 November).

The proposals are based on several pilot studies that took place during the 2010 season and feedback from within the sport. They are the result of detailed analysis of the fitness for purpose of current judging methods in Dressage with the aim of achieving maximum transparency and fairness and, as a consequence, trust in the sport.

The proposed changes are as follows:

Seven judges (instead of five) for defined events such as Olympic Games, FEI World Equestrian Games, FEI Continental Championships on Grand Prix level as well as FEI World Cup Finals.

BIG HAUL OF GOLD FOR TURKEY AND GREECE, BUT VALEV WINS SENIOR TITLE FOR BULGARIA
Historic result for Croatia

8 September – Turkey and Greece divided the majority of the gold medals between them at the 2010 FEI Balkan Jumping Championships staged at the Voivodinovo Equestrian Centre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria where the host nation’s Ivelin Valev claimed the Senior Individual title.

Underlining the increasing development of the sport in this region, the 36th Balkan Championship attracted a bigger entry than ever before with 139 riders from six nations, including Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Croatia.  And it was an historic moment for the Croation athletes, as they marked their debut in these Championships by securing their nation’s first-ever medals in equestrian sport, including individual gold in the Ladies division and team bronze and individual silver in the Children’s section.

FEI Eventing Committee Evaluates Potential of Air Vests in Overall Rider Safety

8 September 2010 – Following a meeting of the FEI Eventing Committee evaluating the potential of air vests in overall rider safety on the Cross-Country phase, the Committee has recommended National Federations and riders to keep themselves informed of all the latest developments and to consider the potential benefits of their use.

The Eventing Committee will continue to monitor the evolution of this equipment, for which there are currently no internationally recognised industry standards. As part of its FEI Eventing Risk Management Policy and Action Plan, the Eventing Committee is fully committed to continuing the collection of data on all aspects of safety in the sport. Specific data on air vests will need to be evaluated in detail before any further advice on their use is issued.

“There is no doubt that air vests represent an important development in rider protection, but protective clothing is not the magic solution to rider safety. It needs to be considered in combination with active measures such as correct training, responsible riding, course design and fence construction,” Giuseppe Della Chiesa, Chair of the FEI Eventing Committee, said.
