Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show and Country Fair Chairperson Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson’s Lifelong Enthusiasm for Brilliant Hunters

Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson

Wellington, FL – March 5, 2012 – Showing at Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show (TPHCHS) means you are a guest of Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson on her beautiful 250-acre property. She is overjoyed to have the company of like minds. After all, she’s spent her life owning and showing some the most famous hunters in the history of the sport.

According to Mrs. Johnson, “I was a sophomore in high school. My brother had a very nice thoroughbred mare that he was hunting with the Traders Point Hunt.  But, she didn’t like men, so he eventually gave her to me. She was a beautiful Barred Umber mare called Jeanette Umber. I rode her in the hunt when I seventeen years old and I showed her at the Devon Horse Show that year.”

In the late 1940s and early 1950s at Devon, the hunter course was a big outside course with a bank and a water jump. It was basically a cross-country course.

Gulf Coast Winter Classic Week IV

What a great week to be on the Gulf Coast! We were lucky with the weather that stayed north of us and we had a jammed pack week of special events.  This week has always been known as our “celebration of hunters”.  This week also for the past few years was also a World Champion Rider event, but it was sad to have to tell so many exhibitors that the governing body over WCHR felt that this event was not worthy.  Maybe next year the vote will be different.

We started this week streaming with Show Net and we had about 300 watching our USHJA International Hunter Derby.  It seems to be a big success for everyone.

On Thursday afternoon we had the jog for 39 horses for our USHJA International Hunter Derby followed by the riders meeting and drawing the order of go along with huge pile of sandwiches, brownies and soda and beer.

Dear Wild Horse and Burro Defenders;
Many thanks to all of you who contacted Secretary Salazar’s office yesterday to ask him to rescind the appointment of Callie Hendrickson to BLM’s National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. DOI & BLM received thousands of calls in protest all thanks to you!

Now, there is another important step you can take to stop the Hendrickson appointment. In conjunction with American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, Animal Law Coalition, Front Range Equine Rescue, International Fund for Horses, Protect Mustangs, Respect4Horses, and Wild Horse Freedom Federation, we’ve created a petition asking the Secretary to rescind Ms. Hendrickson’s appointment and stop BLM from creating an Advisory Board stacked with pro-slaughter members. The petition with everyone’s signature will be presented at the next BLM Advisory Board Meeting.

Survivors of Sexual Trauma Realize the Healing Power of Horses at Kentucky Horse Park

Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center partners with Central Kentucky Riding for Hope on innovative program that needs support

Lexington, KY (March 2, 2012) – “Beautiful.” “Balance.” “Strength.” “Friend.” “I trust you.” These are just a few affirmations written in chalk that appeared last fall on the shiny coats of the horses of Central Kentucky Riding for Hope (CKRH) at the Kentucky Horse Park. The words were written by survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse who participated in a unique pioneering collaboration between CKRH and the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center.

Called the BRCC/CKRH EAST Group, the innovative experience built upon the existing eight-week BRCC Building Blocks Group curriculum and provided equine-assisted skills experiences that capitalize on the long-established horse-human bond to promote healing. The name EAST (Equine Assisted Survivors of Trauma) fits perfectly with the collaboration’s objective to provide survivors of sexual violence a new day filled with hope and promise.
