Daniel Coyle Is Unbeatable

Bromont, August 4, 2019 – Daniel Coyle ran away with first and second place at the CSI3* Grand Prix presented by the Gouvernement du Québec at the International Bromont held at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

Michel Vaillancourt, the course designer for this second week of competitions at International Bromont, prepared a difficult course for the final Grand Prix of the 44th edition of the competition. The technical difficulties, the short approach at an angle to the second obstacle, the combination on a straight line towards the ingate followed by a tight turn going to the sixth effort, as well as obstacle 11 preceded by a broken line and followed by a short 90-degree turn were the most trouble for the participants.

The lion’s share
Young twenty-three-year-old rider Stevie Murphy (CAN) is the first to execute a clear round with her mount Eba b RK in the first round. She is soon joined by Christine McCrea (USA) & Jarcobond Van Den Oude Eik, Julia Madigan (CAN) & Dee Jee, Kevin Babington (IRL) & both his mounts Super Chilled & Shorapur, Jill Henselwood (CAN) & Eblesse, as well as Daniel Coyle (IRL) with Cita & Farrel.

First to come back for the second round, Stevie Murphy executes a perfect round with Ebab RK in second in a time 45.25 seconds. Daniel Coyle & Cita, fourth to come back on the course, execute the best time in 37.12 seconds with a clear round; nobody will be able to dethrone the pair. Coyle will then execute the second-best time with Farrel, thus allowing him to leave with 53% of the prize money for this Grand Prix, presented by the Quebec Government.

Modified Grand Prix at International Bromont: Andrew Kocher & Darius de W Finish First

Bromont, August 3, 2019 – Andrew Kocher and Darius de W took first place in the Modified Grand Prix of the 44th edition of the International Bromont at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

FEI4* course designer Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) had prepared a difficult course for this 1.45 m class. With 13 obstacles for 16 efforts including a double combination halfway and a triple almost at the end, the Modified Grand Prix saw only five pairs make it to the jump-off, four of whom were experienced riders. That is how Andrew Kocher & Darius de W, Jonathan McCrea & Fernando H, Ali Ramsay & Bonita VH Keizershof Z & Alberto Michan & Gletscher EIS E were joined by Caroline Di Vittorio & Auburn des Rosiers.

Right from the start in the jump-off Kocher and Darius de W (Berlin x Zuera de W), an 11-year-old KWPN bay gelding owned by Eye Candy Jumpers, took the lead with a clear second round in 37.72 seconds. No other team could match their performance.

Second Victory for Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale

Bromont, August 1, 2019 – American rider Leslie Howard and Donna Speciale continue on their momentum with a second victory in the FEI (Fédération Équestre Internationale) sanctioned events at the International Bromont held at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park until August 4, 2019.

A commanding course
The course designed by Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) comprised 12 obstacles for 15 efforts in the first round and the technical difficulties beat most of the athletes. The really tight turn between the first and second obstacle, the double combination and the second to last obstacle pushed rides and their mounts to fault. In fact, the tight square turn between the first and second obstacle presented a difficult approach, while the double combination, emphasizing the second part of the gymnastic, caused a lot of faults at the first effort. Finally, obstacle 11, with its back to the crowd, brought the horses to an angle, making it easier to make the bar drop. Only 10 pairs made it to the jump-off, including Canadians Amy & Jonathon Millar, respectively riding Truman and Bonzay, Hyde Moffat (CAN) and Gisborne VDL, Quebecker Alexanne Thibault with Chacco Prime, Irishman Daniel Coyle with Cita, as well as Americans Jonathan McCrea and Fantasy BB, Christine McCrea with Jarcobond Van Den Oude Eik and Dali de Vy, and Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale.

Simply masterful
The first pairs back on the course for the second round, Alexanne Thibault/Chacco Prime & Frank Hendriks/Dio, both got penalties over obstacles. Irishman Daniel Coyle, who follows in the ring with Cita, throws caution to the wind: the pair starts with a fast rhythm allowing them to execute a clear round and establishes the time to beat at 34.78 seconds. The following 7 pairs had a leader to beat. Neither Christine McCrea with her two horses, Jonathon Millar/Bonzay, or Hyde Moffat/Gisborne VDL succeed to get clear rounds. As for Jonathan McCrea/Fantasy BB & Amy Millar/Truman, their perfect rounds are not enough to take first place, as Coyle & Cita still have the best time.

That is when Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale, who have been in the top 4 of all international events last week, come in the ring. Leslie Howard, who is not afraid of anything, pushed her mare to give her best: stride after stride, taking all possible shortcuts, the pair gain ground. They only have one goal in mind: get the best time and execute a clear round to finish first. With close to a lead of one second over Daniel Coyle & Cita, Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale sign their second victory at the International Bromont.

Ali Ramsay & Lutz Win Their First Grand Prix at International Bromont

Bromont, July 28, 2019 – Canadian Ali Ramsay and her mount Lutz won their first Grand Prix together at the International Bromont on a magnificent court, despite weather conditions.

Weather delays the competition
Due to a thunderstorm, the International Bromont Grand Prix had to be interrupted and the heavy rain (more than 14 mm in 20 minutes) looked like it might compromise the return to competition, but the excellent quality of the footing allowed the continuation of activities on an course better than ever. In fact, 35 minutes after the announcement of the restart of the class, the international ring was drained and ready for the waiting participating pairs.

Ali Ramsay and Lutz get ahead of Daniel Coyle and CHS Krooze
The course designed by Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) allowed only 6 pairs to advance to the jump-off: Canadians Ali Ramsay with Lutz and Keean White with Corette and Tahiorn, Americans Leslie Burr-Howard with Donna Speciale and Christine McCrea with Dali de Vy, as well as Irishman Daniel Coyle.

The first two pairs on the course, Christine McCrea/Dali de Vy & Keean White/Tahiorn, both incur 8 penalty faults over obstacles, leaving the door open for the following competitors. Daniel Coyle and CHS Krooze put pressure on as they rush forward and execute a clear round in the fastest time. However, their advance is short-lived, as the following pair, Ali Ramsay and Lutz, successfully get ahead by a few tenths of a second.

An excellent week for Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale
Leslie Howard, who won the welcome event on Thursday with Donna Speciale, and finished second at the CSI3* Classic on Friday, took fourth place this time.

Michael Hutchinson & Nektarina B Win the CSI3* Open Classic at International Bromont

Bromont, July 26, 2019 – Irishman Michael Hutchinson with Nektarina B gets ahead of Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale in the second FEI sanctioned event at the 44th edition of International Bromont held at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

It is all in the details
Only five pairs qualified for the second round of the event on a course designed by Leopoldo Palacios. With 12 obstacles for 15 efforts, including a triple combination at the end, the course presented interesting technical challenges.

The last line of the course, back to the entrance gate with a triple combination followed by a narrow vertical in front of the stone, was particularly difficult for the athletes. In fact, the short approach following a tight turn, combined with finding the right distance, required a solid partnership between rider and horse. First to execute a clear round, Canadian Ali Ramsay was joined for the jump-off by Leslie Burr Howard (USA), winner of the opening event, her two horses, Israel’s Alberto Michan, as well as Irishman Michael Hutchinson.

Back for the second round with Casino, Ali Ramsay executes a double clear in a respectable time of 43.44 seconds. Second in the ring, Leslie Burr Howard changes the equation executing a second perfect round with Donna Speciale in 41.68 seconds, thus putting pressure on the following competitors. Alberto Michan and El Pacho go for broke, but cannot beat Howard. Michael Hutchinson then comes in the ring with Nektarina B, a 14-year-old Holsteiner mare, owned by Candy Tribble. Right away, they start at an infernal pace enjoying each hundredth of a second gained, getting close to the time to beat and stop the chronometer at just 41.22 seconds and take the lead.

International Bromont: Leslie Howard & Donna Speciale Gallop to Victory

Bromont, July 25, 2019 – American rider Leslie Howard and her mount Donna Speciale did not give their fellow competitors a chance at the opening CSI3* event presented by the town of Bromont at the Olympic Equestrian Park.

Welcome to Bromont
29 horse-rider pairs took part in the opening event sanctioned by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI). The course by FEI4* designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) was a real challenge: with 12 obstacles for 15 efforts, including three double combinations, as well as a series of technical turns, where only 8 pairs made it to the jump-off.

The fastest in the first round, Andrew Kocher, who made it to the second round with both mounts, gets 8 penalty points with Abelone O.T. Lowlands Z, his eight-year-old Zangersheide mare, giving Daniel Coyle and Farrel the chance to establish the time to beat with a clear round in 37.63 seconds. The following pairs are unable to do better. Leslie Burr Howard then comes in the ring with Donna Speciale, an eleven-year-old KWPN mare, owned by Laure Sudreau-Rippe & Peter Howard. An experienced rider known for her speed, she rushes forward with her mount. Manoeuvring around the turns with skills and overcoming the course’s challenges, Leslie Howard and Donna Speciale take the lead with a perfect round in an unbelievably fast time of 34.72 seconds, leaving their competitors no room to manoeuvre.

The International Bromont offers classes for all levels until Sunday, while Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) sanctioned events will take place on Friday and Sunday. The show will present its second week from July 31 until August 4, 2019.

Bromont Rider Going to Pan American Games in Lima

Lucy Deslauriers & Hester at the International Bromont.

Bromont, June 21, 2019 – Bromont rider Mario Deslauriers will represent Canada in the Jumper discipline at the Pan American Games which will be held in Lima, Peru starting on July 26.

Three Quebeckers for Canada
The Canadian teams in show jumping, eventing, and dressage will all include Quebec riders in their ranks at the Pan American Games. Mario Deslauriers will be on the jumping team, Colleen Loach on the eventing team, and Naima Moreira-Laliberté will be the fourth member on the dressage team.

Horses, a family affair
Mario Deslauriers will not be the only Deslauriers in Lima in a little over a month, as his daughter Lucy, who has accumulated riding successes, will be the reserve member on the National American this time around.

“I am extremely happy for my family and the passion for horses which unites us,” indicated Roger Deslauriers, the International Bromont General Manager. In fact, other than the talented riders in the family, both Deslauriers father and sons are all involved with horses; Patrice and Samuel Deslauriers will be present for the 44th edition of the International Bromont starting as soon as July 24, enough to make the family patriarch, who has spent his life to the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park and the events of all levels that take place there, very proud.

“Mario and Lucy will be with us for the first week, because the jumping events of the Pan American Games will only begin during the second week of the International Bromont. We will definitely be following the outcome from here,” admitted Roger Deslauriers. “They will have all our support.”

Jonathan McCrea & Aristoteles V Fly to Victory in the Final Grand Prix at Bromont

Jonathan McCrea & Aristoteles V. Credit Tom von Kap-herr.

Bromont, April 5, 2018 – American Jonathan McCrea stepped on top of the podium winning the final Grand Prix at the 2018 International Bromont, with Aristoteles V.

McCrea is unbeatable
Canadian course designer Michel Vaillancourt’s course comprised 13 obstacles for 16 efforts, including a triple combination coming out of a broken line. Therefore, 11 horse-rider pairs qualified for the jump-off round.

With the fastest time in the first round, Christine McCrea & Dali de Vy are first out in the jump-off, but a pole down at the seventh obstacle keeps the door open for the pairs still to come, allowing them to take the lead. The next two pairs, Nicholas Dello Joio & Columbcille de Reve, as well as Mario Deslauriers & Jamaica van Paemel, execute a clear jump-off round, taking the first two places in the standings at that point.

The arrival of Jonathan McCrea & Aristoteles V on the course changes things. The pair takes advantage with a double clear round in a time of 42.54 seconds. Only Susan Horn & Lilly Fee (40.83) and Leslie Howard & Quadam (41.98) will be able to surpass their time, but poles down at the seventh and first obstacles, respectively, will prevent them from winning.

Samantha Kasowitz & Charlie First in the Modified Grand Prix

Bromont, August 3, 2018 – American rider Samantha Kasowitz won the Modified Grand Prix event with Charlie in the second week of the International Bromont.

A convolute course
The course, designed by Canadian Michel Vaillancourt, meant that the rider-horse pairs had to use the entire ring: with a time allowed of 78 seconds, 13 obstacles for 15 efforts, time was a factor in this Modified Grand Prix at 1.45 m.

The short turn towards the third obstacle, an oxer, as well the triple combination halfway through were two decisive tests for qualifying to the jump-off. Of the 21 pairs participating, only seven made it to the second round, and only three were able to execute a double clear round.

Canadian Equestrian Team Medal: Nyah Chernoff wins it
10 riders took part in the Canadian Equestrian Team Medal class which ended activities in the International ring. Rider Nyah Chernoff, on her mount Coco, won the red ribbon.
