SAUGERTIES, NY (September 8, 2012) – Today Lillie Keenan proved, as she often does, that age isn’t always indicative of skill or experience. The 15-year-old from New York, New York piloted Chansonette Farm, LLC’s C Coast Z to the top of an impressive group of 66 qualified riders in the Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final.

“This is my go-to horse and this course was really about knowing your horse,” said Keenan. “It’s great to have another final like this with so much support – it brings a lot of excitement to the ring.”

Keenan combined a first round score of 180 with a notable 186 in the second round to sit in first place with an overall score of 366. All bets are off tomorrow, however, as scores are wiped clean and competition moves from the Outside Course to the Strongid C 2X Grand Prix Stadium where the top 25 will compete in the third round before the top four scores move to the final round and the winner is crowned.

SAUGERTIES, NY (September 8, 2012) – The National PHA Junior Medal Final took to the all-new indoor arena at HITS-on-the-Hudson last night and welcomed 39 riders. It was Meg O’Mara who first earned a score of 87.5 and returned to out-test five riders with a perfect ride and earn the blue.

This week marked the debut of the indoor arena at HITS-on-the-Hudson, which was delivered to Saugerties, New York especially for HITS Championship Weekend. O’Mara, of Rumson, New Jersey rode to medal final glory aboard Elvenstar Farm’s Vancouver who has only just arrived at the show grounds Thursday evening.

“He was perfect. Competing inside is spooky for a lot of horses, but I just got him in front of my leg and he was so soft and smooth over the whole course,” said O’Mara of Vancouver’s performance.

The PHA Junior Medal was not the first victory for O’Mara and Vancouver – the pair also rode to a win in yesterday’s Platinum Performance/USEF Talent Search Medal at HITS Saugerties to go undefeated together.

Fairburn, GA – The Merial Advanced division at the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Bit of Britain wrapped up today with the show jumping phase at Chattahoochee Hills. Mark Donovan’s tough course had riders incurring numerous jump and time penalties with just five double clear rounds in the division. Becky Holder (Palmetto, GA) and Courageous Comet had one rail down but held onto their lead to win the Merial Advanced division held in conjunction with the USEF National Advanced Horse Trials Championship with a score of 27.7. Holder had a stellar weekend with her and husband Tom Holder’s 16-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, taking top honors at this year’s Championship as they did in 2010 Land Rover USEA American Eventing Championships.

It was a fitting way to end Courageous Comet’s illustrious career as Holder confirmed this was his last upper-level competition. The crowd went wild as Holder and “Comet” crossed the finish line winning the Championship and bringing a very special partnership to a close.

“He (Comet) deserves this. I believe now and have believed for a long time he is the best in his sport,” Holder said. “I appreciate the grooms, vets, trainers, selectors, USEF High Performance Committee, and everyone who has been part of shaping his career. Thanks to all the fans and to those at the Kentucky Horse Park; many of our most memorable moments were on that course and in that stadium.”

The Grand Prix Field immediately after Hurricane Isaac left the region

September 7, 2012 – The Gulf Coast Classic Company praises the efforts of the Mississippi Gulf coast community on the massive clean up the area continues to experience after Hurricane Isaac visited the region late last week. This resiliency reaches from the coast to the Gulf Coast Classic show grounds. For, despite the wild nature of the Gulf Coast weather, the Classic Company is looking forward to kicking off five weeks of AA competitions this winter. Classic Company invests in improving the facility each year and 2012 is no exception. As a matter of fact, the magnificent Grand Prix field was seeded with Celebration Sports Turf in July. This top quality turf builder is popular for its strong root base. “The Harrison County Fairgrounds, Harrison County Board of Supervisors and the Gulf Coast Classic Company all agreed that planting this turf would make our already incredible grass field even better,” commented Gulf Coast Classic Coordinator Janet McCarroll. “Our goal is to add improvements each year that will make a positive impact on our clients’ experience here.
