Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) Won the CN International Grand Prix at the Spruce Meadows Masters

9 September 2012 – Riding Cabrio van de Heffinck, 19 year old Philippaerts won the prestigious title and prize money of CAN$335,000 / €265,000, ahead of second place Beezie Madden (USA) riding Simon, and Olivier’s father Ludo Philippaerts (BEL) riding Challenge VD Begijnakker.

On a tough track from course designer Leopoldo Palacios, Olivier Philippaerts was the only rider to jump two clear rounds, though he incurred one time penalty in each to finish on a total score of two faults. Both Beezie Madden and Ludo Philippaerts incurred four faults in the first round and went clear in the second, but Beezie was the quicker of the two in the first round and captured second place overall.

Speaking about his horse Cabrio van de Heffinck, Olivier Philippaerts said, “He has a very good character and he wants go and he wants to win, and this is very important.”

U.S. Scores Strong Results in Spruce Meadows

Three Riders Jump into Top Five in CN International Grand Prix and U.S. Team Finishes Fifth in BMO Nations Cup

Calgary, Canada – The 2012 Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament had great significance for U.S. riders, as it was their final competition under the guidance of legendary Chef d’Equipe George Morris. The prestigious competition is always a destination event for not only the best in North America but also draws top competitors from Europe. The signature classes of Spruce Meadows would once again draw a packed house of spectators, as horses and riders competed for top individual honors in Sunday’s CN International Grand Prix, while just 24 hours earlier, teams jumped for bragging rights in the BMO Nations Cup.

The U.S. got off to quick start on Wednesday with Richard Spooner (Agua Dulce, CA) riding Little Valley Farms’ Apache and Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, NY) with Coral Reef Ranch’s Coral Reef Via Volo placing first and second respectively in the Akita Drilling Cup. While on Friday Kent Farrington (Wellington, FL) and RCG Farm’s Uceko captured top honors in the Encana Cup. Madden and Coral Reef Via Volo would also head to the winner’s circle on Saturday as they topped the field in Suncor Energy Winning Round competition.

Eric Lamaze Welcomes Guests on Spruce Meadows “Masters” Opening Day

Calgary, Alberta – Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, offered an insider’s look at the sport of show jumping on the opening day of the CSIO5* Spruce Meadows “Masters” tournament.  The five-day international show jumping tournament runs from 5-10 September in Calgary, Canada.

Rolex Testimonee Eric Lamaze welcomed approximately 30 guests to his stables on the morning of 5th September, providing an opportunity to watch Derly Chin de Muze being groomed in preparation for the day’s competition.  Lamaze’s mount at the recent London Olympic Games, Lamaze spoke about Derly’s development, as well as his recent experiences in London where the Canadian Olympic show jumping team had a top five finish.

Guests then enjoyed an in depth and insightful course walk with the 2008 Olympic Champion, as Lamaze gave a guided tour of the track set for the first competition of the week, the $35,000 Akita Drilling Cup.  Lamaze explained the technicalities of the course, noting the role that the different colours, backgrounds, and measurements between each obstacle play in the competition.  Lamaze then put his words into practice, meeting the challenges presented to horse and rider by guiding Derly to a clear round.

Substitution of Rider for Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament

Lexington, KY – The following riders have been named by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) to represent the U.S. in Nations Cup competition at the Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on September 9, 2012. A change to the team has been made as Ashlee Bond will be replacing Lauren Hough.

The United States will be represented by the following four riders who have each been entered on either one or two horses:

Ashlee Bond (Hidden Hills, CA) on Little Valley Farms’ Cadett 7.
Cadett 7 is a 15-year-old Holsteiner gelding

Brianne Goutal (New York, NY) on Remarkable Farms’ Nice De Prissey and Cloverleaf Farm’s Ralvesther.
Nice De Prissey is an 11-year-old Selle Francias stallion
Ralvesther is a 14-year-old KWPN mare

USEF Names Riders for Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament

Lexington, KY – The following riders have been named by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) to represent the U.S. in Nations Cup competition at the Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on September 9, 2012.

The United States will be represented by the following four riders who have each been entered on two horses:

Brianne Goutal (New York, NY) on Remarkable Farms’ Nice De Prissey and Onira.
Nice De Prissey is an 11-year-old Selle Francais stallion
Onira is a 16-year-old KWPN gelding

Lauren Hough (Wellington, FL) on Robin Parsky’s Blue Angel and Laura and Meredith Mateo’s Quick Study.
Blue Angel is a 10-year-old Anglo-European mare
Quick Study is a 13-year-old French Warmblood gelding
