Live Oak International Top Three on NARG Specialty Event List

Wellington, Florida – In its inaugural year, CSI2* Live Oak International in Ocala, FL, was ranked one of the top three ‘Specialty Events’ in North America by the North American Riders Group (NARG).  The second annual CSI2* Live Oak International for show jumping takes place from March 20 to 24, 2013, running concurrently with the long-standing CAI-B driving event.

While the NARG’s annual ‘Top 25’ list has become a means of recognizing the top show jumping competitions in North America, this year, a new category for specialty events was introduced.  Designed to recognize stand-alone events, usually held for a shorter period and focusing on top level competition, the ‘Specialty Event’ category was created to give special recognition to those quality events that run outside of the typical horse show formula.

Despite having only been held once, Live Oak International was ranked third on the ‘Specialty Event’ list behind the New Albany Classic and Family Day in New Albany, OH, and the American Invitational in Tampa, FL, which is now in its 40th year.

The 2013 Jacksonville Winter Series has drawn to a close for 2013.  The three week long circuit was marked by sunshine, beautiful weather, hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere.  Each week featured a $2,500 Welcome Jumper Class, and the first two weeks offered a $10,000 Mini Prix, which lead up to Week Three’s finale, the $25,000 Green Cove Springs Grand Prix.  Hugh Graham, aboard Kingridge Stables owned Distant Star 3E, bested the exciting class where many well-known riders, such as Aaron Vale, Hayley Waters and David Jennings, competed for top honors over a Tim Hott designed course.

Hunter riders had plenty of opportunity to shine as well.  Weekly Jerry Parks Insurance Group sponsored $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Classics proved very popular on Friday afternoons, where Professionals, Juniors and Amateur riders navigated the handy course reminiscent of the hunt field.

Wellington, FL – February 1, 2013 – Andres Rodriquez and Caballito soared through the jump-off in today’s class in The Ridge at Wellington’s $175,000 1.40m Invitational Grand Prix series in a blazing time of 31.475 seconds. The first to go clean around the immaculate Top’s Field at Mida Farm, Rodriquez picked up the early lead and never lost it. Eleven others went clear, but no one within the talented forty-horse field was able to come within a second of Rodriquez and Caballito’s roaring pace.

Rodriquez is no stranger to The Ridge at Wellington’s Grand Prix series. He topped the class the first week of the series with Elatrice, and finished in second the following week aboard the talented mount. This week, the fourth event in the series, was Caballito’s first time out. The grand prix horse owned by Arao Enterprises made it look easy as he vied for the $15,000 purse.

The attractive jump-off course, designed by Ken Krome, presented the option for a very fast, but very risky inside turn that Rodriquez opted not to take, instead banking on Caballito’s speed in the footrace.
