Journalists to Vote for Best Press Office in Rolex FEI World Cup Western European League 2010/2011 Season

Geneva, 12 December 2010 – Media accredited to cover any of the 12 Western European League qualifiers and the Final of the 2010/2011 Rolex FEI World Cup will have the chance to judge the quality of the working conditions in the series’ press offices. Journalists and photographers will be asked to evaluate the media facilities, the press conference set-up, the quality and speed of information provided to the media, including the event’s website, the services to photographers, and, of course, the efficiency and friendliness of the press office staff.

This new award for the Best Press Office of the Rolex FEI World Cup Western European League is being introduced to celebrate the hard work of the event organising teams and also to identify areas for further improvement and development.

The idea for this award, supported by the series’ title sponsor, Rolex, was first suggested at a press officers’ seminar earlier this year at the Rolex FEI World Cup Final held in Geneva. The winning press team will be awarded an especially commissioned prize presented by Rolex. And they will be able to celebrate victory in style as they will also receive a magnum of champagne.

Dressage Rider and World Equestrian Games Competitor Tina Konyot Speaks at Sho Clothes “Shop Talk”

Wellington, FL (December 9, 2010) – Tina Konyot, dressage rider and World Equestrian Games competitor, spoke to a packed house at Sho Clothes dressage boutique’s recent “Shop Talk.” An energetic and well-educated crowd listened to Konyot speak about her experience at the 2010 WEG, the transition from the Small Tour to Grand Prix and her stallion Calecto V.

“Tina was fascinating to listen to and I know everyone in the audience enjoyed learning about her experience with Calecto, a horse that she trained by herself and took all the way to the World Equestrian Games,” said Michele Hundt of Sho Clothes. “Tina was also able to field questions from the audience and they really appreciated her feedback.”

During her talk, Konyot explained that Calecto was only an average performer while on the Small Tour but that she believed he would excel in the Grand Prix. Calecto not only excelled, but made history during the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Festival of Champions, a Selection Trial for WEG, when together he and Tina won four Grand Prix classes.

Stall Description:

All stalls have a feed trough, automatic waterer, and an outlet for a fan. You may add salt blocks, other supplement holders, or stall toys.

Equine Care:

Barn manager lives on-site for 24-hour equine supervision.

Instructors:

Western riding and horse training provided by local favorite, Cathy Melton.

Dressage instruction provided by nationally recognized trainer, Greta Wrigley, once a month.

Other Services:

On-site Farrier services are provided by Larry Lafollette each Monday. No holding fees.

Barn Vet is Dr. Tammy Jordan. Vaccinations are required twice a year per state vet guidelines.

Equine chiropractor, Charlie Baillie, comes every 6 – 8 weeks if needed.

In Memoriam: Gen. Samy Negm El Din (EGY)

Lausanne, 6 December 2010 – Gen. Samy Negm El Din of Egypt, FEI official in Jumping and technical consultant to the Omani National Federation, passed away on 4 December 2010 aged 64.

Gen. Samy Negm El Din was a graduate in law and retired as a general from the police force of his home country, Egypt, in 1995. From 2000 to 2001 he served as a board member of the Egypt Equestrian Federation and was a technical consultant to the Omani National Federation until his sudden death.

Gen. Samy Negm El Din was a member of the FEI World Cup Jumping Arab League Sub-Committee and was instrumental in the organisation of many international events in Jumping and Tent Pegging in the region. He played a key role in setting up the international Tent Pegging committee in 2008.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid Chairman of Group VII said, “Gen. Samy was seen by the National Federations of the Arabian Region as one of their greatest bridges to the FEI, and he loved the organisation, and all it stood for. We are all deeply distressed and saddened by his passing, but we will strive to remember him through our work in the region.”

In Memoriam: Eugene “Gene” Mische (USA)

Lausanne, 6 December 2010 – Legendary horseman Eugene “Gene” Mische, the founder of Stadium Jumping Inc., passed away on 3 December 2010 at the age of 79, following a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio (USA), in 1931, Mische, more than any horseman in history, changed the face of horse sports in the United States.

Over the course of a stellar career that spanned more than 60 years, Gene Mische managed the most prestigious shows in America, including the Budweiser American Invitational, American Grand Prix Association National Jumper Championship, New Albany Classic, Lake Placid and I Love New York Shows, Charlotte Jumper Classic, the American Gold Cup, USEF National Jumper Championships, and the National Horse Show. Other Stadium Jumping Inc. productions included the Olympic Games Jumping Team Selection Trials in 2000 and 2004, and the FEI World Equestrian Games Jumping Team Selection Trials in 2002 and 2006.

Gene Mische – A Legend Passes

December 3, 2010 – Legendary horseman Eugene “Gene” Mische, the founder of Stadium Jumping, Inc., passed away on Friday evening, following a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 26, 1931, Mische, more than any horseman in history, changed the face of horse sports in the United States.

He was 79 years old.

Mische recently celebrated over 60 years in the equestrian industry and over the course of his stellar career managed the most prestigious shows in America including the Budweiser American Invitational, American Grand Prix Association National Jumper Championship, New Albany Classic, Lake Placid and I Love New York Shows, Charlotte Jumper Classic, the American Gold Cup, USEF National Jumper Championships, and the National Horse Show. Other Stadium Jumping Inc. productions included the Olympic Games Show Jumping Team Selection Trials in 2000 and 2004, and the World Equestrian Games Show Jumping Team Selection Trials in 2002 and 2006.

First Down Dash Dies at Age 26

The American Quarter Horse Journal – American Quarter Horse racing’s most prolific stallion, First Down Dash, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, at Vessels Stallion Farm in Bonsall, California. He was 26.

“He lay down and went to sleep peacefully. He was missing Scoop and his sunflower seeds,” said Bonnie Vessels, referring to her late husband, Frank “Scoop” Vessels.

Dr. Ed Allred, the sport’s all-time leading breeder, released the following statement: “First Down Dash is unquestionably the greatest stallion of all time. No horse has had the influence of the great First Down Dash. He was an amazing horse. He was a sire of sires. What an incredible and great career… he was in one word ‘amazing.’”

The stallion was laid to rest at Vessels Stallion Farm on November 26. Bonnie Vessels said that First Down Dash was quietly eating hay in his stall when observed by ranch manager Kevin Dickson at 1 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. Three hours later, the night man observed First Down Dash taking his last breath.

John ‘Jack’ Kimball & Judith Noone to Receive 2010 USDF Lifetime Achievement Award

Lexington, KY (November 24, 2010) – The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to John ‘Jack’ Kimball and Judith Noone at the Salute Gala & Annual Awards Banquet on December 3, 2010, at the Adequan/USDF National Convention & Symposium in Jacksonville, FL. These two recipients have shown a lifetime of dedication to USDF through volunteering, and developing programs, projects, and committees that have contributed to USDF’s mission. They also have a long history of membership in USDF.

The late John “Jack” Kimball, of McIntosh, FL, was an active volunteer with USDF from its beginnings in 1973 until his death in June 1996.  Kimball was a founding member of USDF, served on several USDF committees, including Technical Delegates, Symposium Organizing, and Show Management, served as USDF Region 3 Director from 1979-1987, was a well-known American Horse Shows Association (now US Equestrian Federation) “R” dressage judge and technical delegate, and helped a number of USDF Group Member Organizations (GMOs) get off the ground.  These included the Florida Dressage Society which is one of USDF’s first charter GMOs for which he served as an official representative at the inaugural USDF meeting.

Alamo, CA (November 23, 2010) – Dressage enthusiasts around the world have spent the last three years benefitting from the world’s premier online training resource, DressageTrainingOnline.com (DTO), featuring a vast array of training videos. Now reining enthusiasts will have a similar website, ReiningTrainingOnline.com, which will be dedicated to the sport of reining and feature a video library and virtual training.

Reisa Bonetti, founder of DressageTrainingOnline.com, is assisting with the launch of the ReiningTrainingOnline.com (RTO) website through the parent company Enthusiast Training Online.com. “ReiningTrainingOnline.com consists of George Kiss, Martha Torkington, Lorie Sapergia and Cody Sapergia, and will launch in November of 2010,” Bonetti said. “Reining, which is enjoying its first year as an Olympic discipline, is in a prime position of growth and development.”
