College Preparatory Invitational Announces Exciting News for the 2012 Event

Wellington, FL – April 27, 2011 – The College Preparatory Invitational (CPI) is pleased to announce many exciting changes and improvements to their program for their 2012 horse show. Following an extremely successful inaugural event in 2011, the CPI is already in the midst of developing a bigger and better event for their second year. The 2012 horse show will be larger, allowing more riders to compete, and will include dressage classes and an increase to five scholarships that will be awarded.

The mission of the CPI is to prepare and educate student riders in grades 8 – 12 about the format of college equestrian competition, encourage academics and horsemanship, and to provide the riders with resources to create their desired college equestrian experience. The show is specifically geared to promote college recruitment of equestrians by providing the opportunity for coaches and potential students to meet.

Call for Entries: 2011 Poster Contest Washington International Horse Show

Washington, DC, April 25, 2011 – Let the horses inspire you! The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), the leading indoor equestrian event in the US, is seeking an original poster design for its 53rd annual event, to be held Oct. 25-30, 2011, at Verizon Center in Washington, DC.  The six-day equine extravaganza features the country’s leading horses and riders in exciting jumping competition.

The poster contest is open to US-based artists, both amateur and professional, 18 years or older.  A maximum of three entries per artist will be accepted. There is no entry fee. The work submitted must be original and may be in any medium suitable for duplicating on posters and souvenir merchandise. The deadline for entries is 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 31, 2011.

Entries should be inspired by the WIHS and reflect an equestrian or horse theme. Artists also should consider the event’s longstanding ties to Washington, DC.

The winning design will be selected by a panel of judges and will be used to promote the 2011 horse show. The winning artist will receive significant publicity, 100 posters and a package of all other items produced with the winning design, four weeklong passes to the show and the option to have a vendor booth during the show. The artist retains the original artwork.

Equestrian Sport Productions Spring 6 Horse Show: April 19-23, 2011

Wellington, FL – April 26, 2011 – The Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP) Spring Circuit held its sixth show on April 19-23 with a full schedule of hunter/jumper competition. The popular circuit featured three classes in the Spring 6 show: the $10,000 Pennfield Feeds Open Jumper Welcome Stake, the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Classic, and the $25,000 ESP Spring 6 Grand Prix.

Up and coming jumper stars ruled the International Arena this past week. In the $25,000 Spring 6 Grand Prix, 13-year-old Victoria Colvin of Loxahatchee, FL, scored her first grand prix win with Monsieur Reverdy, owned by Rivers Edge. She beat a field of 32 entries with a double clear finish in 36.755 seconds. Quentin Judge (24) and HH Sandor were second in 37.143 seconds, while 16-year-old Christina Kelly and Camirage, owned by Diamond Edge Farm, were third in 37.261 seconds.

HITS Culpeper Kicks Off with Commonwealth National

CULPEPER, VA (April 21, 2011) — It’s official! The grass is freshly cut, the flags are flying high and the sponsor banners are lining the grounds, as show jumping is underway with the Commonwealth National at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia.

“We have been here every week for as long as I can remember,” said trainer Peter Foley. “With the diverse schedule of classes and its convenient location in the heart of Virginia’s horse country, HITS Culpeper is a ‘can’t miss’ for us.”

When the action kicked off yesterday in the hunter ring, it was Winn Alden (Bristow, Virginia) who got the party started when she took the blue ribbon aboard Stacey McFadden’s Catalyst in the first over fences class of the First Year Green Hunter division. In the second class, she piloted Cassandra Gergeley’s Davinci to the victory, which puts her on the inside track for a division championship when it gets crowned later today!

“It’s great to be back in Culpeper,” said Alden. “I was in Ocala all winter and we had a great time. I will be showing at Culpeper every week, trying to qualify for the Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final.”

Equestrian Sport Productions Spring 5 Horse Show: April 13-17, 2011

Wellington, FL – April 19, 2011 – The Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP) Spring Circuit continued last week with week 5 on April 13-17. ESP was very pleased to see that exhibitor numbers at the show increased 25% from 2010. The horse show offered a full schedule of hunter/jumper competition, with three classes featured: the $10,000 Pennfield Feeds Open Jumper Welcome Stake, the $7,500 Reist Industries High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Stake at The Stadium, and the $30,000 ESP Spring 5 Grand Prix.

The winner of the $30,000 ESP Spring 5 Grand Prix was Norman Dello Joio (USA) on Notre Star de la Nutria, owned by La Nutria and Thelma Ramero Cloud. They beat out 40 entries in the class for the USEF Ranking Class victory with double clear rounds and a jump-off time of 45.960 seconds. Second place went to Traffic Boy, ridden by Shane Sweetnam (IRL) for Spy Coast Farm LLC. They were also clear in 46.637 seconds. The last double clear ride was by Aaron Vale (USA), who piloted Texola for himself and Joan Kalman. They stopped the timers in 47.378 seconds for third place.

Eric L. Straus Named to National Horse Show Association Board of Directors to Fill Term of the Late Eugene R. Mische

Lexington, KY – April 19, 2011 – The National Horse Show Association of America Ltd. announced today that Eric L. Straus has been appointed to the Board of Directors to fill out the term held by the late Eugene R. Mische.

Straus brings a wealth of talent and experience to the National Horse Show Board of Directors.

Straus is a recognized USEF judge, steward and FEI show jumping steward. Recently, at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Straus served as the FEI Honorary Chief Steward General for Reining and previously officiated at the World Equestrian Games in 2002 in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and again in 2006 in Aachen Germany. He was Chief Judge for Modern Pentathlon at the 1996 Olympic Games and the 1987 Pan American Games.

Straus is a Trustee and Executive Committee member of the American Horse Council in Washington, D.C., and is Secretary and Executive Committee member of the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation. He also served as Executive Director of the United States Equestrian Federation in 1996-1997.

The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival Experienced Great Success, Awards Circuit Championships

Wellington, FL – April 14, 2011 – Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP) is proud to congratulate all of the Circuit Champions for the 2011 season. ESP is also thrilled with the many accomplishments that were made throughout the 2011 season and look forward to continued improvements during the summer months to make the 2012 Winter Equestrian Festival one of the best horse shows in the world.

Throughout the twelve weeks of competition, more than $6 million was awarded in prize money, and over $1 million was raised for 32 charities in the FTI Great Charity Challenge presented by Fidelity Investments.

The 2011 FTI WEF also saw increased numbers of horses, riders, owners, and trainers from last year. Almost 5,000 horses and more than 3,000 riders competed over the twelve weeks of competition. It is no surprise that these numbers increased this year, due to the world-class events that were offered throughout the circuit.

The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival Circuit Champion Awards were presented to the top finishers in every division, based on prize money and points won.

Atlanta Spring and Tryon Summer Classic Horse Shows Right around the Corner

Beautiful spring weather has arrived here in the south and Equus Events spring and summer schedule is beginning to heat up.  The Atlanta Spring Premiere May 11-15 and the Atlanta Spring Challenge May 18-22 are just around the corner and will include two fabulous weeks of AA competition at the Georgia International Horse Park.  This show series takes place in one of the countries premiere equestrian facilities and will offer over $180,000 in prize money through out the two weeks.  Features include a $25,000 Grand Prix each week, two $5,000 Open Welcome Stakes each week, a $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, a USHJA National Hunter Classic, a $7,500 JR/AO Jumper Classic each week and in addition the Atlanta Spring Premiere has been selected as a World Champion Hunter Rider Event.  These shows will offer something for everyone as nearly every hunter and jumper division will be offered a classic.  Equus Events will also offer daily hospitality for exhibitors, trainers, and riders and weekly parties.  The annual Preakness Party will take place May 21st to celebrate the 136th running of the Preakness Stake.  DFG Stables and Daniel and Cathy Geitner of Aiken, SC are graciously sponsoring this event.

The Tryon Summer Classic Horse Show will again take place June 2-5 at FENCE in beautiful Tryon, North Carolina.  FENCE (Foothills Equestrian Nature Center) is a 380 acre nature, education and recreation facility nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The area offers many activities including numerous shops and antique stores as well as adventures whitewater rafting on the Green River.  This year’s show will again benefit the Tryon Hounds.  www.tryonhounds.com This unique event encompasses the days of old with a rich tradition but also attracts top riders and trainers in the southeast.  Many will be contending for their name to be engraved on numerous perpetual trophies.  Some of last years winners include:

The Savannah College of Art and Design Will Host 34th Annual ANRC National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship

Savannah, GA – The 34th Annual American National Riding Commission (ANRC) National Collegiate Equitation Championship will take place at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, at the Ronald C. Warranch Equestrian Center April 14-17.

Approximately 15 college teams will showcase their most talented riders, who will be judged and scored in four phases: a dressage sportif, a program ride with United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) hunter equitation tests; a hunter seat equitation medal course; a hunter trials equitation course, over natural obstacles in a field; and a written test based on riding theory and equine science. Novice division entries will compete over fences at 2’6” and national division entries will compete over fences at 3’.

Both individuals and teams will receive honors and awards from ANRC and the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA). Awards will be given for each phase, along with an overall individual award and an overall team award. This year’s judges are Bobbie Reber of Langley, BC, Canada, and Caroline Jones of Calgary Alberta, Canada. The written test judge is Marion Lee from Leesburg, VA. The ANRC is an Affiliate of USEF and USHJA. New in 2012, the USHJA will partner with ANRC to add a competitive venue to the USHJA outreach program based on the ANRC National Collegiate Equitation Championship format.
