Lexington KY – July 28, 2012 – The Rolex Stadium was alive with excitement as 34 entrants competed in the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. It turned into a nail-biter as five competitors progressed into the jump-off with a clear first round effort. Trailblazer Pablo Barrios aboard Zara Leandra was the first to post a double-clear effort tonight, and it seemed as though no one would be able to best the talented team. It wasn’t until Aaron Vale and Tibor took their turn at the short course that the anticipation became contagious, with the crowd holding their breath as they watched his tight turns and speedy delivery. His time of 41.889 seconds took the duo to the top of tonight’s leader board and the winning title.

Brazil’s Marina Azevedo designed tonight’s course, using obstacles such as a vertical-vertical-oxer triple combination, standalone verticals, bending lines, an oxer-vertical double combination, a triple bar, rollbacks and tight turns. The jump-off allowed 52 seconds for horse and rider to trip the timer, utilizing tight turns and long distances to direct them to the finish. Starting over the first vertical and making a left rollback to a grey oxer, riders moved forward over a single vertical toward the oxer-vertical combination. Upon landing they were required to make a tight right turn to a vertical, and then move toward the timers over the oxer-vertical line with the seconds accumulating and their speed progressing with every stride.

Lexington KY – July 27, 2012 – Today marked the third day of the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, and it seemed as though the competition was only beginning to escalate as the amateur and junior jumper riders showcased their skills in the Rolex Stadium. Topping the High Amateur-Owner Jumpers, Paige Johnson piloted La Martinee to a double-clear victory, and also claimed third with her second mount Monopoly. Chelsea Moss slid into second aboard Dolce D’Ive Z, also completing a fault-free short course. In the High Junior Jumpers, Chloe Reid claimed the blue ribbon with her quick and clear round aboard Damascus, while Emanuel Andrade placed second with Costa, and Kelsey Van Ackeren rode to the third place ribbon with Vernon G.

Although clouds hung petulantly over the Kentucky Horse Park with threats of rain, the sun moved into place as riders prepared for the High Jumper events. Today, Marina Azevedo’s first round track included a vertical-oxer double combination, an oxer-vertical double combination, a large oxer-vertical-oxer combination, bending lines and rollbacks. Each caused errors for some of the entries, as well as seeing an immense number of rails over the SSG vertical. For the jump-off riders had to use an open gallop across large parts of the ring and take tight turns to shave seconds off their time, while also leaving the fences in place.

Lexington KY – July 26, 2012 – Thunderstorms plagued the Kentucky Horse Park as riders gathered beneath the lights of the Rolex Stadium to compete in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. Paige Johnson proved to be the best of the best, controlling the jump-off with one of only seven double-clear efforts aboard Chiron S to lead the victory gallop. Shane Sweetnam and Danielle Goldstein also tackled the short course, but their times could not catch Johnson’s speed, each placed third and fourth, respectively.

Marin Zevedo designed tonight’s course, using obstacles such as a vertical-oxer-vertical triple combination, bending lines, an oxer-oxer double combination, a triple bar, roll backs and tight turns. The jump-off allowed 47 seconds for horse and rider to break the beam, using a serpentine path to guide them to the finish. Starting over the first oxer and making a right to a vertical, riders then took a standalone red-and-white vertical to the oxer-oxer double combination. Upon landing, they were in full gear, racing against the seconds as they maneuvered over the SSG Digital Riding Gloves vertical and finished over the final oxer.

Wellington – July 26, 2012 – Peter Leone and his Lionshare Farm homebred, Wayfarer, nicknamed “The Future,” earned the win out of a field of 50 international competitors in the 1.25m Open Jumpers at International Bromont. Leone and Wayfarer also placed in the Derby de Vitesse/Speed Derby.

“By Nona Garson’s Languster out of a Holsteiner mare, he was born big and handsome. From day one, he showed character, range, scope and intelligence. He is just a genuinely, lovely talent,” said Leone about Wayfarer. “Because he was born on the farm, he has been my project. We know each other’s nuances and unspoken signals, so together we have the ability to turn and jump.”

Leone and Monica Carrera’s Lincourt Gino delivered the speed and accuracy required to put them in second place on the leader board in the 1.35m Open Jumpers. Then on Sunday, the pair was one of only six horse and rider teams to go faultless in the first round of the BonjourQuebec.com World Cup qualifying event. Leone and Gino, a big Irish Sporthorse gelding, have been in the money all spring and summer and were the second fastest of the four-faulters in the jump-off round, earning the duo third place honors.
