Bromont, July 22, 2012 – Nicolas Dello Joio completes the only double clear round of the BonjourQuébec.com World Cup qualifying event at the International Bromont today, Sunday July 22.

A high-caliber event
The course, designed by Venezuelan Leopoldo Palacios, was made up of 13 obstacles for 16 efforts, including 3 double combinations (2 jumps counting as one). The time allowed of 80 seconds proved to be a handicap for many riders who did not make it to the jump-off. Of the 26 horse/rider teams participating, only 6 made it to the second round, representing: the United States (Leslie Howard, Peter Leone and Nicolas Dello Joio), Russia (Ljubov Kochetova), Canada (Jonathan Asselin) as well as Quebec (Angela Covert-Lawrence, from St-Lazare).

Leslie Howard, always the fastest, posts an unbeatable time of 37.93 seconds, but two bars down eliminate any hope of finishing in the Top 3, while the following riders opt for prudence and keep it at one bar down. Third on the ring, Dello Joio is the first to realize a clear round in the jump-off and sets the time to beat; a clear round in less than 41.40 seconds. Peter Leone succeeds in besting the time, but not without a fallen bar, which keeps Dello Joio in the lead. As for Angela Covert-Lawrence, she executes her course well with only four jumping faults, but in a time of 41.97 seconds.

Last participant in the jump-off, Jonathan Asselin on Showgirl, gets around the course in 39.62 seconds, while a fallen bar relegates him to second place. Traditionally for the last two years, the winner of the BonjourQuébec.com World Cup has also won the Grand Prix (as we remember Yann Candele, 2010 double champion Jill Henselwood, who won both events last year); will Nicolas Dello Joio follow this Bromont custom?

International Bromont promises an unforgettable 2012 edition with five FEI events, the return of the Royal Canin Challenge on both Sundays, as well as its two new events. For more details on the programme, visit our Internet site at www.internationalbromont.org.
