Historic ASPCA Maclay National Championship Returns to Alltech National Horse Show

Lexington, Ky. – August 25, 2012 – The second edition of the Alltech National Horse Show in Lexington, KY, is set for October 30 through November 4, 2012. The show will once again be held at the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park.

In addition to world-class show jumping and the country’s best and most competitive hunter divisions, the show will also feature one of the nation’s longest running and most coveted national championships, the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Maclay National Championship.

Over the years the ASPCA Maclay Finals have been termed the “proving ground of champions” and the ultimate test for America’s young riders. And in the case of this classic test of horsemanship skills, that’s certainly more fact than hype.

During last year’s ASPCA Maclay Finals, it was 17-year-old Sarah Milliren of Sapulpa, Okla., who took top honors. “It’s so exciting; I’m so happy,” beamed Milliren after leading the victory gallop. “For the second round I had moved down, so I knew I had to give it my all. I feel so honored to win this prestigious national championship.”

Patty Stovel Steals the $40,000 HITS Grand Prix at HITS Culpeper’s Winston National

CULPEPER, VA (August 20, 2012) – HITS is back in Virginia and Patty Stovel got things started in the Grand Prix ring this weekend with a win in the $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, aboard her own Carigor Z. Nineteen horses took to Jerry Dougherty’s 13-obstacle course and six conquered it to move onto the jump-off.

The Bokeelia, Florida course designer built a technical course that presented an oxer-to-oxer double combination at fence five and a triple combination at fence 12, which boasted tall verticals to yet another large vertical at the final fence of the course.

“This course was very careful, but it fit the group of horses that showed up to jump it very well,” said Stovel.

After watching six rounds, three of which were clear, Stovel and her 11-year-old Argentinean gelding made it four and joined the jump-off. Stovel and Carigor Z have been together since she purchased the horse as a three-year-old.

Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show and Country Fair Wrap-Up

Zionsville, IN – August 14, 2012 – The 2012 Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show and Country Fair at beautiful Wild Air Farms in Zionsville, IN celebrated its 35th anniversary as one of the top hunter/jumper shows in the U.S.  The popular, festive show is located on a spectacular backdrop nestled amid Indiana hills and woods. Perfect weather drew in a large audience from the Indianapolis area for the final exciting day of show jumping on Sunday.

Veteran course designer and judge, Phil DeVita, produced a challenging course for the competitors for the highlight of Traders Point, the $60,000 Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Throughout the week, DeVita’s courses had been twisting and winding with few related distances that stressed that the rider carve the turns and get in straight, while staying within a tight maximum time.

Eight went clean in the first round: Lillie Ross and Allison Ross’s Pako, Wilhelm Genn and Palim Palim, owned by Nancy Gooding, Aaron Vale and Amen Corner Farm’s Palm Sunday, Emily Short and Grande Finale, Lisa Goldman and her own Morocco, Nick Novak and his Springfield Tennessee, Taylor Land and Jay Land’s Nepal and finally 17-year-old Claudia Billups and her Quick N Easy.
