FEI Launches New Online Entry System for Jumping Events

CSI-W Dannevirke in New Zealand will be the first event to use the new FEI online Entry System for Jumping Events.

Lausanne (SUI), 2 January 2013 – FEI World Cup Jumping qualifiers in New Zealand at Dannevirke (4-6 January) and Waitemata (12-13 January) will be the first events to use the newly launched FEI online Entry System for Jumping Events. The system allows National Federations and organising committees to manage the entries of athletes and horses in CSIs through a single online platform.

The new system has been designed to improve the automation and exchange of data between the FEI and the NFs with a developed IT system, and will also provide IT tools to NFs that do not already have their own entries database. The system will make communication between the organising committees, NFs and the FEI easier and will ensure a better quality and traceability of data.

Checking the eligibility of athletes and horses prior to events and managing results after events have ended are additional bonuses of the new system.

The system will be launched gradually, starting with CSI1*-W Dannevirke (NZL) held from 4 to 6 January 2013.

Sweden’s Von Eckermann Is Victorious in Mechelen with Gotha

Mechelen (BEL), 30 December 2012 – Henrik von Eckermann secured an important first win in the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping series when coming out on top in the eighth leg of the 2012/2013 Western European League at Mechelen in Belgium today. And it was a particularly good day for Swedish riders as the 31-year-old’s compatriot, Jens Fredricson, finished third behind runner-up Francois Mathy Jr from Belgium.

From a starting field of 40, a total of nine made the cut into the second-round jump-off in which von Eckermann clearly demonstrated the qualities that saw German legend, Ludger Beerbaum, offer him the opportunity to join his team nine years ago.  With great skill, and astute judgement, the Swede steered Madeleine Winter-Schulze’s mare, Gotha FRH, to success over a jump-off course that tested balance, control and turning skills.  “I hope to keep the ride on her for a while now!” he said of the 11-year-old horse which has been campaigned by Beerbaum in recent years.

Dutch Delight as Houtzager and Tamino Take the Honours at Olympia

London (GBR), 22 December 2012 – Marc Houtzager brought his year to the perfect close when winning the seventh leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping 2012/2013 Western European League series at London, Olympia (GBR) today.  Riding Sterrehof’s Tamino, the Dutchman went fourth in the eight-horse jump-off and clinched it with the smoothest of rides.

Runner-up spot went to Malin Baryard-Johnsson with H&M Tornesch, and the Swedish star has now moved to within sight of a qualifying spot for the series Final on her home turf in Gothenburg, Sweden next April. Peter Charles slotted into third, and it was a particularly creditable performance from the man who helped clinch team gold for Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Partnering a new ride, the 10 year old French-bred mare Murka’s Odie de Frevent, Charles is only just back in action after undergoing surgery in September.

Houtzager said, “It looks like London is the place to be for me!  I won team silver at the Olympic Games and now I’ve had my first World Cup win here.  It’s a great win for me, and it is especially great because it is the last show of the year!”

Aleš Opatrný – The Rolex One to Watch for December 2012

18 December 2012 – The Rolex One to Watch for December 2012 is awarded to Aleš Opatrný (CZE), who trains at JS Opatrný Hořovice (CZE).  During the month of November, the 31-year-old jumped from 355th to 238th – a move up the Rolex Rankings of 117 places.

Opatrný was born on 18 September 1981 in Hořovice (CZE), where he grew up on his family’s ranch, which has a 100-stable capacity and is situated approximately 60km south west of Prague (CZE). When he was two years old, Opatrný was introduced to riding by his father, Václav, who was a successful Eventing rider and triple champion of the Czech Republic. Equestrianism is unquestionably the Opatrný family’s main focus and they have been breeding horses as far back as 1924.

Opatrný cites January 2012’s joint Rolex One to Watch winner, German rider René Tebbel, as the Jumper that he admires most and he believes Tebbel has been the greatest inspiration in his career. His drive to succeed stemmed from his memorable victory in the 2000 FEI Young Riders European Championship, Hartpury (GBR), which he won with his dark bay stallion, Kris Kentaur. Opatrný’s motivation is to one day compete for his national team at the Olympic Games and to also climb the Rolex Rankings as high as he possibly can.
