Zurich (SUI), 27 January 2013 – Portugal’s Luciana Diniz and Lennox stormed to victory in a thrilling four-horse jump-off at the tenth leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping 2012/2013 Western European League series in Zurich, Switzerland today.  The Brazilian-born 42 year old was second to go against the clock, and threw down a target time that proved impossible for the rest to catch.

It was a tough day at the office for the 39 starters as the statistics revealed. The tight time-allowed of 69 seconds caught out 16 horse-and-rider partnerships in the first round, while a total of eight had only a single fence down and two missed out on the jump-off with just one time penalty.  For the second week in succession Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and Bella Donna were amongst the latter, but their fifth-place finishing spot added 12 valuable qualifying points to the German rider’s collection, so the three-time Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping champion now looks well-assured of a place at the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in April.

Lausanne (SUI), 21 January 2013 – World Champion Nicolas Andreani (FRA) and eight-time national champion Anna Cavallaro (ITA) were celebrating victories this weekend at the fourth leg of the FEI World Cup Vaulting 2012/2013 series in Leipzig (GER), part of the famous international equestrian event Partner Pferd.

Andreani, vaulting on Radix SB and lunged by Patric Looser, won with 8,666 points, while Cavallaro was in a class of her own, finishing on 8,796 points to win by a massive margin and securing her third success of the current series on Harley lunged by Nelson Vidoni.

Andreani, now 28, last competed in Leipzig two years ago in the first FEI World Cup Vaulting Final. After the first round he was tipped to win, but the then World Champion Patric Looser (SUI) moved ahead in the second round to claim the first FEI World Cup Vaulting title.

Leipzig (GER), 20 January 2013 – Germany’s Christian Ahlmann showed exactly why he holds No. 1 position on the Jumping World Rankings when trouncing the opposition in the ninth leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Western European League series at Leipzig, Germany today.  In the ten-horse jump-off against the clock he was in a class of his own with the brilliant Taloubet Z who set an unbeatable target when sixth to go.  And it was a spectacular hat-trick for the partnership who took the Rolex title at the 2011 Final and also won last year’s qualifier at this same venue.

Runner-up was Ireland’s Denis Lynch with the big gelding, Abbervail van het Dingeshof, while Olympic individual silver medallists, The Netherlands’ Gerco Schroder and London, finished third.  On an afternoon when many of the top riders were further testing some newer horses in their strings, it was Switzerland’s Pius Schwizer who slotted into fourth ahead of Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander and Ego van Orti in fifth place.

A total of 40 horse-and-rider combinations contested this class, and it was always going to be a tough one to win as the starting line-up included nine of the top ten in the World Rankings.  With the series now moving towards the closing stages, and with just three further qualifiers to go, the battle for a qualifying spot at the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in April is intensifying with every round. And course designer, Germany’s Frank Rothenburger, tested them with a track that demanded rider skills all the way to the final fence.

Leipzig (GER), 20 January 2013 – Koos de Ronde (NED) was the star of the ultimate FEI World Cup Driving qualifier held in Leipzig (GER) this weekend. Today’s victory was De Ronde’s only chance to secure a ticket for the Final in Bordeaux (FRA). The suspense was on until the very last moment in the fully packed Leipziger Messe arena. De Ronde came out the winner, József Dobrovitz (HUN) finished second in this thrilling competition, ahead of Tomas Eriksson (SWE) in third.

Eight FEI World Cup drivers

FEI Official course designer Dr Wolfgang Asendorf (GER) had laid out a very horse-friendly course, which was well appreciated by all eight drivers. The organising committee had invited FEI World Cup drivers Christoph Sandmann (GER), Georg von Stein (GER) and IJsbrand Chardon (NED) to compete with wild cards, so eight out of the season’s ten FEI World Cup drivers were present in Leipzig. The only absentees were Boyd Exell (AUS), who is enjoying some time off in his home country, and Theo Timmerman (NED).

Watershed Win for Langehanenberg as She Pips Double-Champion Cornelissen in Amsterdam

Amsterdam (NED), 19 January 2013 – Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW pipped defending double-champions Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival at the sixth leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Western European League in Amsterdam (NED) today. There were eight Dutch competitors amongst the start-list of 15, but Germany claimed two of the top-three placings when Isabell Werth and Don Johnson slotted into third ahead of Italy’s Valentina Truppa and Fixdesign Eremo del Castegno in fourth.

Langehanenberg’s form in recent months had suggested that it would not be long before she and her lovely stallion would find the key to finishing ahead of the Dutch duo who have dominated the prestigious indoor series over the last few years.  At last year’s Final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (NED) where Cornelissen came out on top for the second successive season, Ground Jury President, Great Britain’s Stephen Clarke, told the German rider that she had only a little more polish to find in order to improve from runner-up position, and Langehanenberg has worked hard to bridge that gap ever since.

FEI Bureau Withdraws World Cup Finals 2015 Hosting Rights from Guadalajara

Lausanne (SUI), 10 January 2013 – The FEI Bureau has this week withdrawn the hosting rights for the FEI World Cup Jumping and Dressage Finals in 2015 from Guadalajara (MEX). The organisers have been unable to meet in full the requirements imposed by the FEI Bureau when the Finals were allocated to Guadalajara at its meeting in June of last year.

“The FEI truly appreciates the efforts that the Guadalajara organisers put in to try and meet all the requirements,” FEI Secretary General Ingmar De Vos said, “but as they were unable to fulfill them within the agreed timeline, the FEI Bureau was left with no choice but to withdraw the Finals. In spite of this set-back, we hope that the Mexican Federation will consider hosting a major FEI event in the future, as we are very keen to see a world class equestrian event organised in the region.”

Guadalajara and Las Vegas (USA) both put in bids to host the 2015 Finals, but although Guadalajara is no longer involved, hosting rights will not automatically be transferred to the American city.

Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro are the leading combination of the FEI World Dressage Rankings (Kit Houghton/FEI)

Lausanne (SUI), 10 January 2013 – Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro, the first British combination to head the FEI World Dressage Rankings, have started the New Year in style by reclaiming the top spot.

Thanks to their masterful performance in the fifth leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage on home ground at London Olympia in December, and a world record score in the Grand Prix at the same event, the double Olympic gold medallist and her 10-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding are once again world number one with 2,943 points.

The Dutch combination of Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallists, are in second place just 37 points behind the leading duo on 2,907.

There are no other changes in the Top Ten, with Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW holding onto third (2,731) followed by another British duo – Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris – still in fourth place on 2,555 points.

FEI Launches New Online Entry System for Jumping Events

CSI-W Dannevirke in New Zealand will be the first event to use the new FEI online Entry System for Jumping Events.

Lausanne (SUI), 2 January 2013 – FEI World Cup Jumping qualifiers in New Zealand at Dannevirke (4-6 January) and Waitemata (12-13 January) will be the first events to use the newly launched FEI online Entry System for Jumping Events. The system allows National Federations and organising committees to manage the entries of athletes and horses in CSIs through a single online platform.

The new system has been designed to improve the automation and exchange of data between the FEI and the NFs with a developed IT system, and will also provide IT tools to NFs that do not already have their own entries database. The system will make communication between the organising committees, NFs and the FEI easier and will ensure a better quality and traceability of data.

Checking the eligibility of athletes and horses prior to events and managing results after events have ended are additional bonuses of the new system.

The system will be launched gradually, starting with CSI1*-W Dannevirke (NZL) held from 4 to 6 January 2013.

Koos de Ronde Picks Up Fourth FEI World Cup Driving Win at Mechelen

Mechelen (BEL), 30 December 2012 – Dutch driver Koos de Ronde has a special bond with the FEI World Cup Driving in Mechelen (BEL). He won the competition in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and he won it again this year after a truly exciting competition.

De Ronde’s compatriot IJsbrand Chardon was actually well underway to secure his first-ever victory in the 12-year history of the FEI World Cup Driving in Mechelen when fate struck and his carriage tipped over. Luckily, Chardon, his grooms and his four horses were all uninjured and the four-time World Champion ended the night in third. London-Olympia winner Boyd Exell (AUS) finished second behind Koos de Ronde, who was competing on a wild card.

The excitement grew when each of the eight competitors entered the fully packed Nekkerhal in Mechelen where Dutch O-course designer had laid out a good fast course. Rookie Glenn Geerts (BEL), who also competed with a wild card, set the time to beat in the first round and nearly made it to the Winning Round, much to the excitement of the Belgian driving fans. But Boyd Exell, IJsbrand Chardon and Koos de Ronde all beat Geerts’ very fast time to qualify for the Winning Round with very small time differences.

Sweden’s Von Eckermann Is Victorious in Mechelen with Gotha

Mechelen (BEL), 30 December 2012 – Henrik von Eckermann secured an important first win in the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping series when coming out on top in the eighth leg of the 2012/2013 Western European League at Mechelen in Belgium today. And it was a particularly good day for Swedish riders as the 31-year-old’s compatriot, Jens Fredricson, finished third behind runner-up Francois Mathy Jr from Belgium.

From a starting field of 40, a total of nine made the cut into the second-round jump-off in which von Eckermann clearly demonstrated the qualities that saw German legend, Ludger Beerbaum, offer him the opportunity to join his team nine years ago.  With great skill, and astute judgement, the Swede steered Madeleine Winter-Schulze’s mare, Gotha FRH, to success over a jump-off course that tested balance, control and turning skills.  “I hope to keep the ride on her for a while now!” he said of the 11-year-old horse which has been campaigned by Beerbaum in recent years.
