Wellington, FL (April 11, 2012) – When New York dressage rider Martin Sosnoff met international dressage rider and trainer Dr. Cesar Parra he said he was immediately impressed with Parra’s passion for the sport as well as his incredible level of sportsmanship. Parra, who recently represented the United States at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, discovered that he had much to learn from his experienced student. Sosnoff, who is an octogenarian, is still showing younger riders exactly how it’s done.

“Cesar is a world class rider with many young students competing and winning, but when he met Martin he was very interested in helping him achieve his goals. He liked that he was an older man who wanted to ride, learn and compete,” said Toni Sosnoff, Martin’s wife. “Cesar is not only an incredible rider and trainer but he is an incredible resource in the world of dressage.”

Lausanne (SUI), 11 April 2012 – In the long and distinguished history of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping series, no country has ever won the title on more than four consecutive occasions.  American riders dominated throughout the early years with seven victories over the first nine seasons, including four between 1980 and 1983, but as the 37 representatives from 19 nations gather at ‘s-Hertogenbosch (NED) next week for the 34th annual decider, it seems Germany is poised to break the mould.

Already with the greatest number of wins to their credit, a total of nine since Ludger Beerbaum’s success with the great mare Ratina Z in Gothenburg (SWE) back in 1993, German competitors have held a firm grip on the coveted crown in recent years. They have been denied only twice since Otto Becker (Dobel’s Cento) held the trophy aloft in Leipzig (GER) 10 years ago, and for the last four seasons they have been all but unstoppable.

Wellington, FL (April 11, 2012) – Barbara (Bebe) Davis, a 14-year-old dressage rider who competes in the FEI Pony Division, has wrapped up an amazing winter show season with her two ponies, Poldy 10 and Bohdjan. While she may not be old enough to drive a car, Davis was still able to pilot her equine partners into the winner’s circle time and time again while competing on the prestigious winter show circuit in Wellington, Florida.  Davis and Poldy 10 earned a personal and record high score of 75.987% at two different shows in the FEI Pony Individual Test.  Their score is the highest any declared pony rider has received since the Pony Division was included for the first time at the Festival of Champions in 2011, according to the United States Equestrian Federation.

“The last three shows were really great,” Davis said. “They started out pretty good and I didn’t think they could get any better, but they did. I competed at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby and at two shows at the Global Dressage Festival.”

Show Jumping Wraps Up Another Year at the Fork International Horse Trials

Allison Springer and Arthur take home the Adequan USEA Gold Cup from the Fork H.T. Leslie Mintz/USEA Photo

There were no rails in hand heading into the show jumping phase at The Fork, but that didn’t matter to Phillip Dutton, Karen O’Connor, Michael Pollard, and Allison Springer as they all held onto their overnight leads in their respective divisions by jumping clear rounds over the Sally Ike designed show jump course.

In the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced B Division, Allison Springer and Arthur, a 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Brandenburg’s Windstar x Kelly), led from wire-to-wire to finish on their dressage score of 22.7 in the extremely competitive class.  The pair had quite a few hard rubs in the show jumping arena, but luck was on their side and all of the poles remained resolutely in their cups.

“Three years ago I started working with Katie Prudent,” explained Allison. “And she is the one who has really changed that horse and me. I think he was just written off as a very un-careful horse and would never be careful, and I didn’t want to believe that because he is such a good talent. [Katie] was so helpful with him.”

Motivation from Moshi 97, by Jane Savoie

At my barn the white dressage arena fence is about twelve inches high. Around that is a taller fence, about five feet high. Around the perimeter of the property is a dog proof mesh fence that’s six feet high! Wow… that’s a lot of boundaries!

There’s a saying that strong fences make good neighbors. This is true figuratively as well as literally. A strong fence can keep danger out, and/or keep someone safely in. A clear fence line makes a strong statement about where my space starts and yours ends.

Personal boundaries are like the low dressage arena fence. They may not keep things in or out, but they clearly mark a line that says, “do not cross.” You just have to be aware of that line and be willing to respect it. That’s not so easy, because personal boundaries are so, well, personal!

Some people want physical space, privacy, and to take care of themselves. Others are touchy/feely folks who want to hug and snuggle, love to nurture and care for others, like lots of feedback, and get lonely when left alone.
