Lexington, Kentucky – The U.S. was represented well at the Pan American Endurance Championship in Trinidad, Uruguay. On September 27, Mae Chase-Dunn tackled the 120km race in the Senior division while McCamey Kimbler and Mallory Capps contested the Young Riders/Juniors division under the guidance of Chef d’Equipe Emmett Ross.

“Since the U.S. was unable to field a full team for either division, the riders competed as individuals. They rode horses that were leased from Uruguayan stables, and the goal of each rider was to perform as well as her horse was capable of while learning as much as possible about competing at an international level representing the U.S.,” said Ross. “These goals were achieved. All three riders did an excellent job of representing our country and they learned an enormous amount through their participation.”

Chase-Dunn (Riverside, California) ran a smart race with Chamalu to finish in 12th place with a time of 7:00:47. The 12-year-old gelding owned by Gabriel Alvarez recovered well throughout the race and traveled at a pace of 17.78 km/hour, giving Chase-Dunn valuable experience at an international championship.

Seventeen-year-old Kimbler (Aberdeen, South Dakota) rode SB Nazeem to a 13th place finish in the Young Riders/Juniors division with a time of 7:20:46. She and the eight-year-old gelding owned by Haras Santa Barbara achieved a solid performance, traveling at an average speed of 16.97 km/hour.

Capps, a 19-year-old resident of Cumming, Georgia, also competed in the Young Riders/Juniors division. She guided Alex Robaina’s Serena Hab during the race, but unfortunately the 12-year-old mare did not pass the final vet check.

In the Senior division, Oriana Ricca of Uruguay and Amrillo HLM won with a time of 5:29:30. Maria Pereira of Uruguay claimed the win in the Young Riders/Juniors division with SM Lady Adela, finishing with a time of 5:15:29.

US Riders Head to Pan American Endurance Championship

Lexington, KY – Three individuals will represent the U.S. at the Pan American Endurance Championship on September 26. McCamey Kimbler, Mallory Capps, and Mae Chase-Dunn have traveled to Trinidad, Uruguay with Chef d’Equipe Emmett Ross to contest the championship. The Pan American Endurance Championship has divisions for both Senior and Young Riders/Juniors, as the competitors travel 120km in an attempt to earn top honors.

Seventeen-year-old Kimbler (Aberdeen, South Dakota) will compete in the Young Riders/Juniors division with SB Nazeem, an eight-year-old gelding owned by Haras Santa Barbara. Kimbler has had several top performances this year, beginning 2013 with a third-place finish in the CEIJY2* at the Indian Springs Endurance race. She followed this up by winning two 120km CEIYJ2* races over the weekend in early May at the Spruce Woods Provincial Park. In July, Kimbler finished fourth in the 120km race that was part of the Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships presented by Gotham North. With top placings under her belt this year, she hopes to have another top performance in Uruguay.

Capps, a 19-year-old resident of Cumming, Georgia, will also compete in the Young Riders/Juniors division. She will partner with Alex Robaina’s 12-year-old mare Serena Hab. Capps began the 2013 season with a win at FITS in the 90km race, as well as an eighth-place finish the following day in the 120km race. In May, she and Serena Hab finished ninth in the CEIJY2* Costa Azul, Canelones in Uruguay. The pair aims for a similar result at the Pan American Endurance Championship.

As the sole U.S. competitor in the Senior division, Chase-Dunn (Riverside, California) will ride Chamalu, a 12-year-old gelding owned by Gabriel Alvarez. She has accumulated three fourth-place finishes this year at the Shine and Shine Only, Biltmore Challenge, and Almanor Hustle races. Chase-Dunn hopes to have her performance peak at the championship.

Lausanne (SUI), 24 October 2011 – Endurance riders from Uruguay claimed Team and Individual gold in the Senior division, while the host nation of Chile dominated the Young Riders classes at the 2011 Pan-American Endurance Championships staged in Santo Domingo (CHI) last weekend.  Bernardo Algorta registered an impressive average speed of 20 kilometres an hour with his horse, Cacique, to take the Senior title for Uruguay, while Chile’s Sebastian Taverne and Eclipse covered the challenging course at an average of 19.73 kmh to secure the Young Rider honours.

Attention to detail in the preparation of the venue and facilities in Santo Domingo drew high praise for the Organising Committee from competitors, officials, supporters and spectators alike.  But the highest accolade of all was heaped on by Chile’s President, Sebastian Pinera, who attended the event and said that it provided “a great boost to Chile and to South America in general.”

ENTHUSIASTS
The history of Endurance in Chile dates back to a visit by a group of enthusiasts to the FEI World Championships at Fort Riley in Kansas, USA back in 1996.  On returning home they introduced the discipline to their native country, and began to organise races over distances of between 40 and 80 kilometres.  Chilean competitors who rose to prominence during the early years included Marcial Taverne, Antonio Llompart, Alejandro Donoso, Marcelo Cortes and Ignacio Urenda.
