Geneva (SUI), 9 December 2012 – One of the best-loved horses in the sport showed exactly why he is such a huge favourite with the public all around the globe when the diminutive 16 year old Cevo Itot du Chateau carried Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander to victory in the sixth leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping 2012/2013 Western European League series at Geneva, Switzerland today.

The big guns were out in force, with the start-list including 14 of the top 20 in the current Rolex World Rankings list and the reigning Olympic, World and European champions, but only eight made it through to the second round jump-off.  And the little chestnut gelding led them a merry dance with a superb run against the clock that left Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya and Carlo having to settle for runner-up spot ahead of Germany’s Hans-Dieter Dreher and Magnus Romeo in third while host nation representative, Janika Sprunger, slotted into fourth with Palloubet d’Halong.

Ellerstina defeated La Dolfina, 12-10 in the Final of 2012 Argentine Open in a dramatic match on Saturday 8 December.

Pablo MacDonough opened the scoring for the match for La Dolfina early in the first chukka.  Gonzalito Pieres scored to tie it up at 1-1.  Three minutes later, Nico Pieres put Ellerstina ahead, 2-1, to end the first chukka.  Facundo Pieres scored the first goal of the second chukka, giving Ellerstina a 3-1 advantage, but La Dolfina stormed back.  Ellerstina fouls allowed Adolfo Cambiaso to convert a pair of 30 yard penalty shots to tie it up at 3-3.  Gonzalito Pieres’s second goal of the game had Ellerstina back on top, 4-3.  A foul in the Ellerstina goal mouth gave Cambiaso a short penalty shot for a goal and the chukka ended 4-4.

Goals were hard to come by in the third chukka. Adolfo Cambiaso put La Dolfina up 5-4 on a 40-yard penalty conversion. Facundo Pieres followed up Nico Pieres and tied it up on a goal from the field. At the end of three periods of play it was all even at 5-5.

Geneva (SUI), 8 December 2012 – Boyd Exell (AUS) won the fifth leg of the FEI World Cup Driving 2012/13 held in Geneva (SUI). Exell stayed far ahead of Tomas Eriksson (SWE) and home driver Werner Ulrich securing his third victory of the season. After five competitions the four-time FEI World Cup Driving champion is in second place on the series’ standings and is certain of a starting place in the FEI World Cup Driving Final in Bordeaux (FRA) next February.

German international course designer Falk Böhnisch had laid out a fast and technical course in the beautiful arena in Geneva, the biggest one on the FEI World Cup Driving circuit. The water splash added a wonderful dimension to the course, which was appreciated by both the competitors and the enthusiastic Swiss spectators who had come in large numbers to the Palexpo arena.

A little nervous
Boyd Exell faced different opponents in Geneva compared to those in Budapest last weekend, only Theo Timmerman (NED) having made the trips to both the Hungarian capital and the Swiss city.

The snow has already made its debut in the northeast announcing that it is that time of year again when equestrians head south for some of the best showing in the country. And this year, many are starting their new year by heading to Gulf Coast Classic Company’s Pensacola shows.  Last year marked the debut of the inaugural Gulf Coast Classic at Pensacola, and word has it, it is the new favorite show destination that starts January 9 and runs through January 27.

The Pensacola shows are fun!  And, the footing is fabulous!  The footing at the Escambia Equestrian Center is customized by Classic Company with the equine athlete’s well-being in mind.  As a matter of fact, Classic Company travels to each of its shows and manages the footing prior to the start of the shows.  “We have a footing trailer, complete with tractors and an assortment of drags that we bring to all Classic Company and Gulf Coast Classic Shows,” commented Bob Bell, President of Classic Company.  “At times, we have even installed the footing, most recently in the new arena at the Charleston shows,” he added.

Wellington, FL (December 6, 2012) – Caroline Roffman of Lionshare Dressage and Sagacious HF wowed the crowd and the judges during the Holiday and Horses show on December 1-2, 2012.  On Saturday the pair scored a 73% in the FEI Test of Choice class, in the Under 25 Grand Prix.  On Sunday they rode the same test for a score of 71.106%.  This performance was only their second competition together, and they are preparing for the upcoming 2013 Florida circuit.

“Sagacious and I are still getting to know each other, but I’m very pleased with our scores and with how his training has been progressing,” says Roffman.  “We have no set plans for the future but I’m enjoying the ride.”  Sagacious HF (Welt Hit II x Judith x Cocktail), a 1999 KWPN gelding owned by Al Guden, recently came to Roffman after the U.S. Olympic selection trials in June, and they are now working with her longtime trainer, Danish Olympian Lars Petersen.  Roffman plans to campaign the horse during the winter show circuit in Wellington, and the pair seem to have a good shot at competing in the Under 25 division at Aachen.
