Lexington, KY – September 25, 2012 – The Kentucky Horse Park is often home to the sounds of thundering hooves, but on Saturday, Nov. 3, it will be the thundering feet of the runners and walkers in the Alltech Countryside Canter 5k and Fun Run/Walk presented by Get Healthy Kentucky.
New this year, runners and walkers can take part in either a 5k or a one-mile fun run or walk. Participants will follow a course around the Kentucky Horse Park, beginning and ending at the Alltech Arena. All proceeds after operational expenses will be donated to The All Glory Project, which seeks to promote, foster, and support programs that utilize animal-assisted therapies in aiding military veterans and their families.
The event begins on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 a.m. Participants can register online for the Countryside Canter 5k and Family Fun Run/Walk and the no later than Thursday, Nov. 1. Entries made prior to Oct. 15 cost $25, and entries between Oct. 15 and Nov. 1 are $30. Registration on the day of the event will be $35. The first 500 who register will receive a commemorative race shirt.
Those participating in this year’s Alltech National Horse Show can race at no charge.
The Alltech National Horse Show announced that the show will cover the cost of the race entry fees for any exhibitor or participant in this year’s show that would like to race in the Countryside Canter 5k and Family Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning. Those fees will then be donated to the charity on behalf of the competitors.
“We know that there are a number of folks coming to Lexington that love to run,” said Mason Phelps, Jr., the President of the National Horse Show Association. “We would like to make the race available to our customers by paying their entry fees. It’s a win-win. We offer a service to our customers and it gives the Alltech National Horse Show a chance to give back in the form of a nice charitable contribution to a worthwhile cause.”

Following the race, participants are welcome to attend the Alltech National Horse Show, which takes place in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park Oct. 30 through Nov. 4. Special events and performances will be held throughout the run of the show, and there will be activities for children, as well as a wide array of vendors. Daytime admission is free, and children under 12 are free throughout the show, including evening performances. Tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night events will be available at the door. Parking during the horse show is free. The Alltech National Horse Show offers affordable entertainment for the entire family!
