About Great Meadow:

Great Meadow was founded and its land donated by news executive and philanthropist Arthur W. (Nick) Arundel for preservation in perpetual open space in 1982, preventing subdivision for 500 homes on the land. Today, the beautiful rolling site has instead become a paradigm for adaptive use of an abandoned farm into open space land for equestrian and community events. Now the permanent home of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase classic, Great Meadow is the site of many non-profit events benefiting open space preservation and other charitable causes.
