East Aurora, NY and Wellington, FL – June 3, 2014 – The historic Devon Horse Show has come to a close, but Katie Jacobs-Robinson of Deeridge Farms will not be returning home empty handed. The talented amateur rider qualified for the prestigious event with her Winter Equestrian Festival Reserve Circuit Championship mount Amarillo for the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter division. Although they have not been in the show ring since March, they never missed a beat, capturing the division’s reserve championship honors.

Robinson had a dominating performance with Amarillo on the first day, winning both over fences classes with scores in the 90s, and the pair then earned a second place ribbon in the under saddle. They returned for the second day of competition to take home the third place honors in the stake class. Their efforts throughout the weekend were rewarded with the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter Reserve Championship.

Robinson acquired the ride on 7-year-old Amarillo from Jane Gaston after retiring her veteran partner Rock Steady. “I haven’t done any other horse shows between now and WEF, so this is just sort of straight out of his stall,” she explained. “For us to be able to do this was a pretty big deal. I didn’t think we would be able to make it here. To not only make it, but also to be successful is really a treat.”

“Jane Gaston is an amazing horse woman who did a great job with him,” said Robinson. “I just love him because he’s very uncomplicated. The more you leave him alone the better he goes. You just sort of gallop around the course, which is really nice. Rocky left some big shoes for him to fill, but he’s certainly doing it.”

Robinson was also successful earlier in the month at the Old Salem Spring Horse Shows, where she piloted Tradewind to the Amateur-Owner Hunters Reserve Championship and Sutton Place to the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over 3’3″ Hunters Reserve Championship during the first week of competition.

The Jacobs Family and Deeridge Farms will show again later this month as they head to New York for the Lake Placid Horse Shows.
