East Aurora, NY and Wellington, FL – April 5, 2016 – The Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) drew to a close this past Sunday, and riders are already prepping for the spring and summer show seasons. Katie Jacobs-Robinson of Deeridge Farms dominated the Amateur-Owner 35 and Over 3’3″ Hunter division throughout the season with her two mounts, Cascarillo and Sutton Place. Robinson and her horses finished strong with multiple tricolor awards during the final weeks of the circuit for their efforts.

Despite being busy with her children and taking her son to look at colleges, Robinson still managed to find time to horse show. During the final week of WEF, Robinson closed out the Amateur-Owner 35 and Over 3’3″ Hunters with top results on her newest mount Cascarillo. Robinson had excellent rounds, setting herself a part from the rest of the class, earning the pair the division championship.

“Brady Mitchell and Chris Sorensen imported Cascarillo over the summer, and just really took our time getting to know him,” explained Robinson. “I showed him before circuit started and then we finished up great! He’s just a lot of fun to ride; he’s just a really fun horse.”

She continued, “I have to make sure I’m galloping along because he doesn’t always think that there’s going to be another jump; he’s still sort of green in that respect. It’s just making sure I maintain his attention and I keep on cantering forward. These past few weeks everything has come up beautifully.”

Robinson also earned the reserve championship ribbon with Cascarillo during Week Nine, while her other mount, Sutton Place, also received tricolor ribbons throughout WEF, earning the championship during Week Nine and Week Eleven.

“Sutton Place has really grown up,” Robinson said of Sutton Place. “He really knows the drill now. He’s such a big horse; he’s got a huge stride, and a really big jump, so my focus is always staying with him.”

Robinson and her family also successfully hosted the inaugural Wellington Masters World Cup competition in February of 2016. “It was so much fun,” she said. “I really loved it, and it was great for me to be able to do something like that with my brothers and my parents. I think it was really interesting to think about it as a competitor and what I would want and what I think is important to not only the exhibitors and the owners and riders, but also to working in the stable; it came full circle and I enjoyed it a lot.”

Cascarillo and Sutton Place will now return to Heritage Farm in Katonah, New York for a well-deserved break. The next stop for Robinson and her family’s Deeridge Farms will be the Old Salem Spring Horse Shows in May, followed by the Lake Placid Horse Shows later this summer.

Katie Jacobs-Robinson and Amarillo Capture Tricolor Honors at Historic Devon Horse Show

East Aurora, NY and Wellington, FL – June 3, 2014 – The historic Devon Horse Show has come to a close, but Katie Jacobs-Robinson of Deeridge Farms will not be returning home empty handed. The talented amateur rider qualified for the prestigious event with her Winter Equestrian Festival Reserve Circuit Championship mount Amarillo for the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter division. Although they have not been in the show ring since March, they never missed a beat, capturing the division’s reserve championship honors.

Robinson had a dominating performance with Amarillo on the first day, winning both over fences classes with scores in the 90s, and the pair then earned a second place ribbon in the under saddle. They returned for the second day of competition to take home the third place honors in the stake class. Their efforts throughout the weekend were rewarded with the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter Reserve Championship.

Robinson acquired the ride on 7-year-old Amarillo from Jane Gaston after retiring her veteran partner Rock Steady. “I haven’t done any other horse shows between now and WEF, so this is just sort of straight out of his stall,” she explained. “For us to be able to do this was a pretty big deal. I didn’t think we would be able to make it here. To not only make it, but also to be successful is really a treat.”

“Jane Gaston is an amazing horse woman who did a great job with him,” said Robinson. “I just love him because he’s very uncomplicated. The more you leave him alone the better he goes. You just sort of gallop around the course, which is really nice. Rocky left some big shoes for him to fill, but he’s certainly doing it.”

Robinson was also successful earlier in the month at the Old Salem Spring Horse Shows, where she piloted Tradewind to the Amateur-Owner Hunters Reserve Championship and Sutton Place to the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over 3’3″ Hunters Reserve Championship during the first week of competition.

The Jacobs Family and Deeridge Farms will show again later this month as they head to New York for the Lake Placid Horse Shows.

Katie Jacobs-Robinson Awarded Circuit Championship at Winter Equestrian Festival

East Aurora, NY and Wellington, FL – April 1, 2014 – The 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival has come to a close, with all of the points and numbers tabulated to determine who was the best of the best. Katie Jacobs-Robinson showed two new horses this year for her family’s Deeridge Farms, and topped the standings with both mounts, winning the Amateur-Owner Hunter 36 & Over 3’3″ Circuit Championship aboard Sutton Place, and the Hunt Ltd. Amateur-Owner Hunter Over 35 Reserve Circuit Championship with Amarillo.

Although Sutton Place is still a young horse learning the ropes, he proved that he was the perfect student by continuing to improve throughout the circuit. He kicked things off with the reserve championship title during Weeks 1 and 2, but by Weeks 7, 9 and 11 he was claiming the championship award.

“It was hard, but really rewarding,” explained Jacobs-Robinson. “I think he’s a special horse and has a lot of talent. He’s a fast learner and I am feeling a lot more confident on him. Frequently, when we first started, he would look to turn the wrong way when we would land on course, and almost turn into the fence. By the end he understood the way a course normally flows.”

Jacobs-Robinson added, “He’s a little feisty and he can be a lot of horse sometimes to handle. He’s very brave though. I think that was a very competitive division. There are so many nice horses and good riders. I was really happy and proud to have winning the circuit championship as part of his resume.”

Right after the National Horse Show, Jacobs-Robinson picked up the ride on Amarillo, and they also clicked right away with a championship win during the first week of the circuit. Although the mount had a minor injury after Week 6, time off meant a few weeks without showing, but the talented young horse started right back up in the winner’s circle with another championship during Week 11 to cement his Reserve Circuit Championship in the Hunt Ltd. Amateur-Owner Over 35 Hunters.

“It started off really well,” noted Jacobs-Robinson. “He’s just a first year horse. We got to do the night class, which was really fun. It was nice that he hadn’t forgotten how to do his job and was Champion Week 11, because I didn’t know how he would come back.”

Jacobs-Robinson continued, “Amarillo knows his job when he walks into the ring. He’s not playful, he’s kind of serious, and he’s very calm. I have polar opposites. I have a silly guy who wants to play all of the time, and then I’ve got Amarillo who knows his job. Jane Gaston did such a super job bringing him along that he’s really all made up, even as a young horse.”

The final addition to Jacobs-Robinson string of talented mounts came in the middle of circuit thanks to Daniel Geitner and Emil Spadone, who were showing Tradewind at HITS Ocala. The pair started their partnership with good ribbons in the Amateur-Owner Over 35 Hunters during Weeks 10 and 11.

“He’s a lot of fun,” said Jacobs-Robinson. “I am still learning about him, but he’s very brave and quiet. It’s fun and I am having a really great time getting to know Tradewind.”

The Jacobs Family and Deeridge Farms will now rest before competing at the Old Salem Horse Shows, the Devon Horse Show and the Lake Placid Horse Shows this spring and summer.
