Atlanta Fall Classic Week I Wrap Up

The Atlanta Fall Classic galloped into the Georgia International Horse Park last week and saw riders from around the country compete for big prize money in the jumpers and National Classic Equitation Final Championship awards.

Happy Birthday, Lisa Goldman!

Lisa Goldman of Hawthorne Woods, Illinois had a great birthday week! She got the party started by winning the $10,000 Open Welcome Jumper Classic on Thursday along with a fourth and sixth place aboard Moroco, Centurion B and Zacantos Z, respectively.

Liz Atkins of Hampshire, Illinois and Benchmark Stables, LLC’s Niro 8 came in second and Derek Peterson of Archer, Florida rode Maddie Skimming’s Cassevel to a third place finish. For complete results, click here.

Saturday night proved to be the icing on the cake for the birthday girl when she and Morocco won the $45,000 EMO Grand Prix. Goldman was one of three to go double clean in the first round in a time of 88.357 seconds. Derek Peterson finished his first round clean in a time of 91.738 seconds in the irons of Maddie Skimming’s Cassevel and Haley Gassel of Lenoire, Tennessee finished clean aboard Westwind Equine Training’s Quite Dark 2 in a time of 93.969 seconds.

The jump off put the riders to the test and Gassel came away with four faults in a time of 43.657 seconds. Peterson was fault-free, but with a time of 45.364 seconds would finish in second. Goldman won the class in a clear jump off round with 43.844 seconds.

Goldman made another visit to the winner’s circle for the fourth place ribbon, this time aboard her own Zacantos Z; the team turned in a first round time of 89.947 seconds, incurring four jump faults.

Jordan Coyne of Port St. Lucie, Florida picked up the pink ribbon with a first round time of 90.469 seconds and four jump faults in the irons of her own Lazaro. Liz Atkins of Hampshire, Illinois and Benchmark Stables, LLC’s Undine placed sixth in a four fault first round in a time of 94.633 seconds.

Daniel Geitner of Aiken, South Carolina rode the Kenwood Syndicate’s Kenwood to the seventh place ribbon with a four fault first round in a time of 94.633 seconds. Jared Peterson of Archer, Florida took the eight place ribbon riding his father Derek’s Titus 2:11 in a first round time of 94.942 seconds with four jump faults. Ninth place was awarded to Goldman, this time aboard Mary Goldman’s Centurion B, with eight jump faults in a time of 90.382 seconds. Liz Atkins returned for the tenth place ribbon with Benchmark Stable LLC’s Niro 8 with eight jump faults in a time of 93.513 seconds. Sarah Wayda of Princeton, New Jersey and her own Faroukh finished in eleventh and Gassel wrapped it up with the twelfth place finish aboard Werner 61 owned by Westwind Equine Training Center.

On the Hunt!

Twenty-three horse and rider teams took to the hunt for the USHJA National Hunter Derby but it was Wonder C, owned by Alliah Kassem and ridden by Matt Martin of Petersburg, Tennessee, who won the class. Martin returned to the winner’s circle with Ellie Kimmel’s Cooper. Timothy Maddrix of Birmingham, Alabama and Cynthia Hallman’s Fig Street’s Duchess secured a third place finish. Barry Lane Classic a Success!

Thirty-three horse and rider teams took to the Grand Prix arena for the $25,000 Barry Lane Classic over three days of hot competition. Friday night’s winner was Eternal Optimist, owned and ridden by Carolyn Aurand of Marietta, Georgia. Saturday night’s winner was Camera Ready, owned by Fit to Print Farm and ridden by Sydney Crenshaw of Woodstock, Georgia. Sunday’s winner was Grisset, owned and ridden by Alissa Kinsey of Danville, New Hampshire. National Classic Equitation Final Championships Crowned!

The coveted National Classic Equitation Finals took place under the covered arena Friday night showcasing the best in up and coming talent in the world of show jumping. Congratulations to all of the National Classic Equitation Champions! “We love this event because we feel that it really focuses on the youth in our sport and developing our future champions,” said Classic Company President, Bob Bell.

Last Call for the 2014 Classic Experience!

Come enjoy the final week of the Classic Company’s 2014 show season at the Georgia International Horse Park! It kicks off tomorrow and there is a big week planned. The $10,000 Welcome takes place Thursday night, the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby takes place Friday night and the $45,000 Cedar Street Advisors Grand Prix, presented by EMO, takes place Saturday night. Sunday the celebrated EMO Circuit Champions are crowned.

There are classics all week and even include a Short Stirrup Hunter Classic for those young equestrians who have their sites on the big derbies one day.

Home to the 1996 Olympics, riders have the opportunity to compete in the Olympic arena and ride for some of the top prize money offered this fall. With more than 300,000 in prize money offered, world-class stabling and arenas, top show management staff and a division for everyone in your barn, there is no better place to be in November. From the jumper ring to the short stirrup arena, each competition ring is highly decorated and staffed with top-notch, friendly professional show staff.
