FEI Pony European Championships: German Dressage Riders Take Team Gold

The German squad was victorious in the team competition during the FEI Pony European Championships in dressage. Silver went to Denmark, and bronze to the Netherlands.

German riders Rose Oatley with Daddy Moon, Antonia Roth with Daily Pleasure WE, Julie Sofie Schmitz-Heinen with Carleo Go, and Antonia Busch-Kuffner riding Kastanienhof Cockney Cracker finished on the combined result of 236,172 to take home the gold medals.

“All the girls rode great; they gave it all they could, and I can’t find the words to express how proud I am of them,” said the German chef d’equipe, Heike Kemmer.

Individually the best rider of the class was Rose Oatley with Daddy Moon – 82,629.

“The test went great for all of us. Germany was in the top 5 places, and we are super happy about what we’ve done,” said Rose Oatley.

Polish riders finished sixth among 13 teams. The best athlete in the squad was Veronica Pawluk riding D’Artagnan 187 – 73,857.

Showjumping

The first individual and team showjumping competition was also played out. 18 out of 49 pairs went clear over the 1,30 m course. Two teams are tied in the lead for now, with a zero-penalty score: The Netherlands and France.

The French squad was phenomenal, as none of their five riders made any mistakes: Anna Szarzewski and Vaughann de Vuzit, Lola Brionne with Clementine, Marie Ann Sullivan with Ken van Orchid, Jeanne Hirel with Vedouz de Nestin, and Nohlan Vallat with Daenerys D’Hurl’Vent.

The Dutch team riders are Milan Morssinkhof with Carrick 13, Ava Eden van Grunsven with Special Lady, Siebe Leemans with Voodstock de L’Astree, Logan Fiechter with Minerva For Play, and Renske van Middendorp with Jolly.

Third place for now belongs to Norway, with a combined result of 4 penalty points: Dina Nicolaysen riding Electra, Thea Gunleksen with Parc Cookie, Mikkel Fredin Nilsen with Attyrory Warrior, Oda Therese Oddsen with Javas Alun, and Rasmus Aasland riding Poetics Floura.

Showjumping Gold for the French

The French team was unbeatable in the fight for the showjumping team gold medal at the FEI Pony European Championships in Strzegom. Silver went to The Netherlands, and bronze to Norway.

After two rounds, the French finished on the lowest score of just 8 penalty points. And so the win belonged to Anna Szarzewski with Vaughann de Vuzit, Lola Brionne with Clementine, Marie Ann Sullivan with Ken van Orchid, Nohlan Vallat riding Daenerys D’Hurl’Vent, and Jeanne Hirel with Vedouz de Nestin, who went double clear.

“I think the course design was perfect. I was stressed, because we had very strong teams here: Ireland, Germany, Great Britain. I think today’s course was difficult, especially because the riders were under a lot of pressure. After all, I’m a lucky man today!” said the chef d’equipe, Olivier Bost.

The next medals were determined by a two-nation jump-off. After two knockdowns by riders from Norway and three Dutch clears, it was all decided, and the rivalry did not need to be finished – the silver went to the Netherlands, and the Norwegian stood on the last step of the podium.

Eventing

The first part of the equestrian triathlon – the dressage – has ended. The leading nation is France, with the combined score of 77,7. Second place for now belongs to Germany – 83,5, and third to Ireland – 88,2. A total of 9 teams compete during the championships.

The individual leader is France’s Mae Rinaldi riding Boston Du Verdon, with the result of 23,2, before German rider Merle Hoffmann with Penny Lane WE (25,0) and her teammate Mathieu Cuomo with Celeste Du Montier – 26,4.

German Girls Are Victorious in the Nations Cup Class in Strzegom

The German team was the best in the second leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup in Strzegom. Second place went to the home squad and third to Belgium.

The German riders took the lead in the showjumping, besting the Polish team that was in the first position after dressage and cross-country. Josefa Sommer with GEKE Equigrip’s Simple Smile was the best of the team riders and she stood on the podium alongside Elena Otto-Erley with Finest Fellow, Katharina Tietz with Aspen T, and Nadine Marzahl with Victoria 108. The individual winner of the class was another German rider, Jule Wewer aboard Ruling Spirit. Even after two knockdowns in the jumping, her lead after the XC was big enough to secure her victory. Second place went to India’s Fouaad Mirza with Dajara 4.

“I think it was a big course. I have a good jumping mare, but I’m not such a good pilot, so I had one down, but the team was so good that we could win. I’m very happy that we had an all-girls team and it was a lot of fun,” said Josefa Sommer from team Germany.

The home nation that kept their dressage lead throughout the cross country made some mistakes and finished in second place. The best result belonged to Mateusz Kiempa with Lassban Radovix, whose clear round placed him in the third position individually.

“Lassban jumped great. I’m very pleased with him and we had a good result. As a team we lost the lead, but I think that we should be really happy with ourselves, it’s a historic result for Poland and the highest we ever ranked in a Nations Cup,” said Kiempa.

Third place went to the Belgian team, who jumped up from the fourth after the cross-country. Five teams competed in the class overall.

In the CCI4*-L, the most difficult at LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials, the win belonged to Poland’s Małgorzata Korycka with 10-year-old Canvalencia. The rider was eighth after dressage, jumped up to third in the cross-country, and went through the jumping course clear, just three seconds over the time. Second place went to Pietro Grandis from Italy with Go For S. The leader after XC, Malin Josefsson (SWE) with Maggan V, made some mistakes on the fences and finished third.

Sandra Auffarth with Rosveel won the CCI3*-L class. In the CCIY3*-L the best results belonged to Julia Gillmaier from Poland, who took the first place with Red Dream Princes and second with Rarashek. At the same time, she defended her title of the Polish National Champion in the young riders’ category.

The CCI2*-L ended with the win of Belgium’s Lara de Liedekerke-Meier with Formidable 62. The best three in the CCIJ2*-L were Polish riders that also competed in the National Championships for juniors. First place went to Zuzanna Społowicz with Bankier, second to Karolina Ślązak with Ganges, and third to Weronika Król with Perez.

Sunday was also the cross-country day for the short-format classes. The best rider of the CCI2*-S was Louise Romeike from Sweden with Caspian 15, and in the CCI3*-S the win went to Lara de Liedekerke-Meier from Belgium with Ducati d’Arville.

10 international classes were played out during LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials, with 350 pairs representing 21 countries.

Team Poland in the Lead in the Eventing Nations Cup at LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials

The home team kept its leading position after a demanding cross-country trial in the Nations Cup class at the hippodrome in Morawa. Second position belongs to Germany and third to Sweden.

Poland is represented by Wiktoria Knap with Quintus, Jan Kamiński with Jard, Michał Hycki with Moonshine, and Mateusz Kiempa with Lassban Radovix. The best result in the team belongs to Kiempa, who went through the XC clear on the fences, but with quite a few points for time which cost him his third position after dressage and knocked him down to 9th. Jan Kamiński presented the fastest round in the team. “The round felt fantastic. The cross-country was very demanding. I decided to bet on accuracy, so I didn’t go very fast, but I wanted to be very precise, because there were a lot of technical challenges. I think I could have easily made up for the time, but it was not the most important thing today. The XC was hard because you had to constantly analyze what’s going on the course and adjust your riding to the coming fences. We needed a lot of attack on the last water, but at the same time it had to be calm to precisely guide the horse to the narrow fences,” said Kamiński.

The leaderboard has changed significantly in the individual classification. The new leader after a clear round two seconds over the optimum time is Jule Wewer from Germany with Ruling Spirit. Second place belongs to India’s Fouaad Mirza with Dajara 4, who went up from the 12th after dressage. Jonna Britse (SWE) sits in third with Quattrino. The dressage leader Tim Lips from the Netherlands with TMX Herby had some faults on the course and is currently 29th.

Saturday’s cross-country changed a lot in the CCI4*-L as well. The new best result belongs to Malin Josefsson from Sweden with Maggan V. Heidi Bratlie Larsen with Lonestar My Hunter is currently second, and Małgorzata Korycka (POL) with Canvalencia are placed third.

Lara de Liedekerke-Meier kept her lead in the CCI2*-L riding Formidable 62 after a clear XC round. In the junior class the best result still belongs to Agata Piskadło (POL) with Brodway, which still makes her the leader in the Polish National Championships in this category.

Germany’s Sandra Auffarth with Rosveel is now the best in the CC3*-S, and the pole position in the young riders’ class and in the Polish National Championships for this category belongs to Julia Gillmaier with Red Dream Princes.

Saturday was also showjumping day for the short-format 2* and 3* classes. In the CCI2*-S the leader is Sweden’s Louise Romeike with Caspian 15, and Nadine Marzahl (GER) with Vally K leads the CCI3*-S.

The CCIP2*-L for ponies ended with the win of Antonia Fulst from Germany riding Fernet. The winner of the Intro class is Ricarda Berkenheide (GER) with Belle Jour.

Tim Price Victorious in Four-Star Class in Strzegom

Strzegom, May 2: Tim Price of New Zealand with the 11-year-old Vitali was the winner in the CCI4*-L class, the highest ranked one during Strzegom Spring Open. Polish rider finished second in the three-star class.

Price, the current world number two, was the one to watch in the class from the beginning. He took the lead after dressage, but gained some penalties after going over the time in the cross-country and fell into third. He made up for it in the jumping with a clear round that ensured his victory. Second place went to Mélody Johner aboard Toubleu de Rueire. The Swiss rider was the only one clear inside the time in the XC and went into the last trial as the leader, but two knockdowns cost her the leading position. Merel Blom (NED) with Ceda N.O.P. finished third.

Belgian rider Lara De Liedekerke-Meier was victorious in the CCI3*-L with Cascaria V after a clear round in the jumping. Second place went to Rebecca-Juana Gerken (GER) with Fame 227, and third to Seppe Vilain (BEL) riding Lamparo V.

The long two-star class ended with the win of Nicholas Goldbeck (GER) with Chintano 7. Andreas Ostholt (GER) finished second with Chilli Supreme and third went to Nadja Minder (SUI) with Victoryhope Treille.

Cross-country trials on Saturday ended the rivalry in the short format classes. The best pair of the CCI4*-S was Merel Blom (NED) and The Quizmaster. Niklas Lindbäck (SWE) with Focus Filiocus was second, and Andreas Dibowski (GER) with Brennus was third.

Hella Jensen (GER) took home the win in the CCI3*-S with Canjo, before Julia Gillmaier (POL) riding Red Dream Princes. Dutch rider Merel Blom with Crossborder Radar Love N.O.P. Blom was the best rider of the CCI*-Intro aboard Calgary 92.

Strzegom Spring Open selected the winners of six international and three national classes, with 185 riders competing with almost 300 horses from 17 countries.

Dutch Rider Wins Four-Star Class in Strzegom

Jordy Wilken was victorious in the CCI4*-S, the highest ranked class during Strzegom Spring Open.

Cross-country trials on Saturday concluded the rivalry in the short-format classes. The four-star ended with some major changes in the leaderboard. Jordy Wilken with the 15-year-old Burry Spirit went up from the 31st into the 15th position after dressage thanks to a clear round in the jumping. The cross-country trial granted him first place when he galloped through the course clear on the fences with only some time faults. Second place went to the leader after jumping, German rider Andreas Dibowski aboard FRH Corrida. Katrin Khoddam-Hazrati (AUT) was third with DSP Cosma. The best Polish rider of the class was Joanna Pawlak with Fantastic Frieda, who finished 14th.

The winner of the CCI3*-S class was Alina Dibowski (GER) with Polish-bred Barbados 26. Second place went to Kamil Rajnert (POL) with Emilia of Chin, and third to the father of the winner, Andreas Dibowski riding Calahari.

The best rider of the CCI2*-S class was Esteban Benitez Vallena with Escara GP. The Spanish athlete was third after dressage, and moved up to win after clear rounds in the jumping and cross-country. Lisa Held (AUT) with Charis E was second, and Vanessa Bölting (GER) with Ready to Go W finished third.

Miloslav Příhoda (CZE) won the Intro class riding Alantino, Roland Pulsinger (AUT) with Colloredo was second, and Johanna Pohjonen (FIN) with Amelie M took home third place.

Strzegom Spring Open was the first international show of the eventing season in Poland. 6 classes were played out, with 150 athletes from 14 countries competing with 250 horses.

Eventing: Professional Riders Are Coming Back to Strzegom

(Strzegom, April 14) Strzegom is opening the international eventing season in Poland. The first show will be Strzegom Spring Open, with over 250 horses competing.

Riders from 14 countries will compete in four international classes: CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, CCI1*-INTRO, and CNC 100 class.

The arenas of Morawa hippodrome will welcome, among others, the Japanese rider Yoshiaki Oiwa, gold medalist of the Asian Games; Merel Blom from the Netherlands, team bronze WEG medalist; or German rider Andreas Dibowski, team gold medalist of the Olympic Games.

Some of the best Polish eventers will also be present, such as Mateusz Kiempa, Joanna Pawlak, or Jan Kamiński.

The show starts on Thursday. The first two days are for dressage and jumping and cross-country trials will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

In accordance with the current pandemic restrictions, the show will be played out without audiences and following strict sanitary measures. The fans will have the chance to cheer on their favourites online – the show will be livestreamed at www.eventing.strzegomhorsetrials.pl and Facebook.

Strzegom Is Getting Ready for the Eventing Season

(Strzegom, February 25) 2021 season is getting closer and closer. According to Strzegom’s calendar, it will start in April and will traditionally last until the half of October. What awaits us in the upcoming season?

“The epidemiological situation in Poland and Europe still makes many matters uncertain,” says Marcin Konarski, the president of the Organising Committee. “At the moment, the organization of sport events in Poland is possible, both at indoor and outdoor arenas. There are no restrictions connected to organizing international events and the participation of foreign athletes. That is why we are getting ready for the 2021 in accordance to our calendar and epidemiological guidelines.”

The warm-up show is Strzegom Spring Open. If all goes according to plan, this will be the first of five international shows in 2021. In the light of the current situation, the beginning of the season will be played out in compliance with sanitary restrictions and with limited audiences.

Strzegom Spring Open will host the following classes: CCI1*-Intro, CCIP2*-S, CCI2*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI4*-S, and CNC 100. For many riders this will be the first 4* performance. The cross-country tracks will be designed to help athletes and horses test their form and to start the season well. A national show with CNC 90, 100, 1*, and 2* classes is scheduled for mid-May.

Strzegom Horse Trials, the flagship event, including the Nations Cup, is scheduled for the last weekend of June. Strzegom Horse Trials will host ten international classes: CCI1*-Intro, CCIP2*-L, CCI2*-S, CCIJ2*-S, CCI2*-L, CCI3*-S, CCIY3*-S, CCI-3*-L, CCI4*-L, and CCIO4*-S-NC. Along with the international classes, we will also play out a national CNC 100 class. This event will also serve as the Polish Eventing Championships for juniors and young riders.

The summer at Morawa hippodrome will see an accumulation of sport emotions. In mid-August we will host the European Championships for Ponies in three disciplines: jumping, dressage, and eventing. Strzegom Summer Tour starts a few days later, with CCI1*- INTRO, CCI2*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI4*-S, and CNC 100 classes. This is a show dedicated especially for those moving up a level.

Strzegom October Festival will traditionally be the end of the season. The riders will compete in CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI3*-S, CCIOY3*-L, CCI2*-L, CCIOJ2*-L, CCIOP2*-L, CCI1*-Intro, and CNC 100 classes. Along with them, we will once again play out the European Youth Eventing Masters – an individual and team competition for all youth categories in CCIOP2*-L (pony), CCIO2*-L (juniors), and CCIO3*-L (young riders). This show will take place in mid-October.

German Athlete Wins the 4* Class in Strzegom

Julia Krajewski with the 14-year-old Samourai du Thot was victorious in the CCI4*-L, the highest ranked class at Strzegom October Festival. Polish riders won two team classes in junior and young rider categories, and Dutch riders were the best in the pony class.

Julia Krajewski (GER) took the lead after dressage but went down into third place after some mistakes in the cross-country. A clear round in the showjumping made her take the lead back and win the whole class. Second place went to the best rider after XC – Lea Siegl (AUT) with Fighting Line. Michael Jung (GER) was third with Go For S.

In the CCI3*-L, the win went to Belgian rider Lara De Liedekerke-Meier with Hermione d’Arville after a clear jumping round. Mélody Johner (SUI) with Toubleu de Rueire was second, and Kamil Rajnert (POL) with Gouverneur finished third.

The podium in the CCI2*-L was dominated by women. Mélody Johner (SUI) won with Demoiselle Peccau, British rider Phoebe Locke was second with Clotaire de Ferivel and Anna Siemer (GER) with Lilybelle Ea was third.

The three- and four-star short format classes ended with cross-country trials. The leaderboard changed a lot in the 4* class. Phoebe Locke (GBR) with Pica d’Or went up from the 13th to 7th place after a clear showjumping round. Her victory was secured by a clear cross-country round with only some points for the time. Second place went to Katrin Norling (SWE) with Fernando-Ukato, and third to Elmo Jankari with Soraya 243 – they went up from the 28th position that they had after the jumping. The leader after dressage – Yoshiaki Oiwa with Bart L JRA finished fourth.

Dutch rider Jordy Wilken with Wilbert BO was victorious in the 3* short class after a clear cross-country inside the time. Robert Pokorny (CZE) with Quantos Mer was second, and third place went to Rebecca Juana Gerken (GER) with Curley Boy.

The best rider in the CCI1*-Intro class was Mélody Johner with Gb Keep Cool du Perchet.

Strzegom October Festival hosted European Youth Eventing Masters for the first time. It’s a new addition to the European equestrian calendar, where all youth categories competed individually and as a team.

European Youth Eventing Masters was dominated by Polish riders in the team classifications. In the young riders category, first place went to Julia Gillmaier with Rarashek, Pauline Wieczorek with Czacza, and Alicja Tropiło with Erez M. The best individual rider was Hedwig Wikström (FIN) with Pin Rock’s Fade To Black.

Karolina Ślązak with Ganges, Weronika Król with Lismakeegan Chester, Ewelina Falkowska with Jusis, and Oliwia Rapa with Kselion won the CCIO2*-L for juniors. Camille Delvaux (BEL) was the best individually with Rock And Roll.

The Dutch team was the best one in the CCI2*-L class for ponies – the win went to Kato De Smidt with Orchid’s Tigersun, Tijn De Blaauw with Orchid’s Megan, Ivy Van Der Kolk with Robin Hood, and Senna Van Houte with Fernhill First Lady. Jule Krueger (GER) was the winner in the individual classification with Golden Grove Simon.

Strzegom October Festival: The Final of the Eventing Season in Poland

It’s the last edition of this year’s international eventing rivalry in Poland. Strzegom October Festival, including a new eventing series, starts October 7.

Strzegom October Festival is traditionally the end of the season at the hippodrome in Morawa. This year it will be accompanied by European Youth Eventing Masters. It’s a brand-new project in the European equestrian calendar, with classes for all youth categories. “Our goal was to create another chance for young athletes to compete individually and as a team, apart from championship events,” says Marcin Konarski, the organizer of the show. “The rivalry will be based on Nations Cup classes. The show will see teams of 3 or 4 riders compete in a team.”

Ten classes will be played out at Strzegom’s arenas, including youth categories of ponies, juniors, and young riders. The equestrian facility in Morawa will host more than 370 horses from 20 countries.

The entry list includes top international eventers, such as German rider Michael Jung – the current Olympic gold medalist and the only rider to ever hold the titles of European, world, and Olympic champion at the same time; his teammates Julia Krajewski, Andreas Dibowski, Dirk Schrade, and Frank Ostholt – team Olympic medalists, as well as Yoshiaki Oiwa – the gold medalist of the Asian Games.

Top Polish athletes will also take part in the competition, including the medalists of this year’s senior national championships: Mateusz Kiempa and Małgorzata Korycka.

Strzegom October Festival starts October 7with dressage tests. Cross-country, the most exciting of the trials, will be played out over three days. We will know the winners on Sunday after the XC and jumping.

European Youth Eventing Masters

Strzegom is starting a brand-new project in the European equestrian events calendar – European Youth Eventing Masters. The first edition will be played out during Strzegom October Festival, from the 8th until the 11th of October in Morawa.

European Youth Eventing Masters is a show for every youth age category – Ponies, Juniors, and Young Riders. The athletes will compete in CCIOP2*-L (ponies), CCIO2*-L (juniors), and CCIO3*-L (Young Riders).

The rivalry is designed similarly to Nations Cup classes – each competition will include teams of 3-4 riders.

“Our goal is to give young riders a chance to compete individually and as a team, apart from championship events. We hope that the riders will find the show interesting, because we would like to host it in Strzegom during the coming years,” explains Marcin Konarski, chair of the Organising Committee.
