The Biggest Loser RunWalk to Host 5k/15k at Kentucky Horse Park

Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk, were in Lexington, Kentucky to promote their upcoming event during the Alltech National Horse Show.

Race to be part of the Alltech National Horse Show

Lexington, KY – July 26, 2013 – Saddle up for The Biggest Loser RunWalk, a 5k race, 15k race and one-mile Kids’ Run Fun part of Family Fun Day festivities during the Alltech National Horse Show, held at the Alltech Arena on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park on Nov. 2, 2013. From the first-time walker to the avid runner, participants are encouraged to get off the couch and hit the gravel in the Bluegrass state. The Biggest Loser RunWalk is licensed through the NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group and Shine America.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk is happy to be working with The Bluegrass Sports Commission and the Alltech National Horse Show to bring the race to Lexington. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 66.2 percent of adults were overweight in the state of Kentucky in 2010, and only 21.4 percent of these adults were physically active for a total of at least 60 minutes per day. These figures are a statistic Kentucky has been working hard to change.

“The Bluegrass Sports Commission is excited about bringing the Biggest Loser RunWalk Race Series to central Kentucky,” said Terry Johnson, executive director of the Commission. “Not only will it be a terrific addition to our sports calendar, but partnering with Alltech and The Biggest Loser in the fight against obesity in Kentucky also contributes to the quality of life of our region.”

The race will be held at 9 a.m. at the Alltech Arena, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Ky., rain or shine. The 5k and 15k are chip-timed for participants tracking personal goals with special awards given to the top runners and walkers. This event will also include a kids’ one-mile fun run for ages 4-12 taking off at noon. Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk and season 5 contestants, offer the RunWalk as a non-intimidating environment for all participants, with a longer course time limit to complete the race.

After the race, participants, family and friends can celebrate and relax at the post-race concert featuring former “The Biggest Loser” contestant and Nashville recording artist, Dan Evans.

On Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, participants and the community can get inspired for the next day’s race at the Health & Wellness Meet and Greet at the Alltech Arena. While there, participants will be able to pick up their race information, enjoy a variety of entertainment inside the Alltech Arena, take advantage of workshops from past Biggest Loser contestants, take part in The Biggest Loser Q&A and much more.

This race will take place as part of a week-long line-up of community activities surrounding the Alltech National Horse Show, America’s oldest and most prestigious indoor horse show, held from Oct.29 – Nov. 3. With race registration, entire families will receive free admission to Saturday Family Fun Day at the Alltech Arena. Other family friendly activities throughout the week include boutique shopping around the arena, a free indoor Halloween trick-or-treat with live cartoon characters on Oct. 31 and the first-ever Barn Night where equestrian youth and horse crazy kids can meet with their favorite equestrians on Nov. 1.
