OCALA, FL (January 24, 2011) – The Ocala January Classic came to an end on Sunday and was highlighted by the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, and the $2,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix, the first qualifiers of 2011 for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix and the Diamond Mills $500,000 3’3″ Hunter Prix Final, respectively.

Andres Rodriguez of Boca Raton, Florida, and Andres Olivares’ Davinci took home the victory in the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health. The class saw 33 starters take the field on a course designed by Jerry Dougherty of Bokeelia, Florida, that produced six clear rounds for the jump-off.

The first clear round of the class came early, when Paul Halpern of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Amanda Weaver’s Sevastian K, second in the order, jumped clean. Two trips later, eventual winner Rodriguez and Davinci forced a jump-off with a clear effort of their own. The next 20 trips saw team after team fail to overcome the course with rails down across the field.

“Cortes was so amazing this week,” noted 15-year-old junior rider Charlotte Jacobs.  “It was so cold earlier in the week and I was afraid he was going to be a bit fresh.  He was absolutely perfect, and we both felt extremely prepared.  I think in the past year he has really grown up and his performance this week really showed that.  I am so proud of him and excited to continue to compete with him in the equitation for the rest of the season.”

Jacobs also competed aboard Karonda V. Schl’hof Ch and Promised Land, owned by Candy Tribble and Windsor Show Stables, in the High Junior Jumpers. Jacobs and Promised Land were third in the High Junior Jumper Classic after laying down a beautiful round against the field of several other horse and rider combinations.

New this year, the Atlanta Spring Premiere (week 1) has been selected as a World Championship Hunter Rider event and will also host a USHJA National Hunter Classic.  The Atlanta Spring Challenge (week 2) will again host a $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby.  An additional $5,000 Open Jumper Welcome Stake has been added to the schedule for a total of two each week.  Prize money has also been added to the Low Jr/Am Jumper division and non-showing fees have been removed.  “Despite economic conditions these shows have continued to grow and I would like to thank all of our exhibitors and supporters for that,” said show manager J.
