Celebrating the Spirit of Cloud

Cloud on his 20th – by Kristen Collett.

On May 29, 1995, a pale colt was born high in the Pryor Mountains — wild, free, and destined to change hearts around the world. That colt was CLOUD.

This year, as we celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse, we’re reminded of the spirit Cloud embodied so completely: courage, freedom, strength, and an untamed heart.

Cloud was more than a wild stallion. He became a symbol of what is still worth fighting for — family, freedom, wildness, and the right of America’s wild horses and burros to remain on their public lands.

Though Cloud left us in 2016, his legacy continues to run wild through every person he inspired, every horse protected, and every voice raised in defense of the wild ones.

Last year, our community came together to send birthday wishes to Cloud. We thought there was no better way to celebrate his life again this year than revisiting those heartfelt messages:

Happy 31st Birthday, Cloud.
Your spirit still lights the way.
