BLM Schedules Fall 2026 Roundup of Pryor Wild Horses
The Bureau of Land Management’s newly released Fiscal Year 2027 roundup schedule lists the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range for October 1 through November 15, 2026.
BLM plans to remove approximately 40 wild horses during this first phase of its management plan. The agency’s spring 2026 estimate counted 187 horses, excluding foals under one year old.
And this first removal is only the beginning.
Under BLM’s new management plan, additional removals are authorized as the agency works toward its newly established Appropriate Management Level of 107–120 horses, with the stated objective of reaching the lower AML of 107. BLM’s removal criteria prioritize horses with certain genetic defects and horses resulting from closely related pairings, followed by removals to meet population objectives, with preference given to younger horses — beginning with ages 1–4 and then ages 5–10.
The Pryor Mountain wild horses are one of America’s most beloved and closely documented wild herds. Decisions made now could permanently alter the demographic, genetic, and social makeup of this unique population.
