Lexington, KY – The excitement of vaulting comes to the Lexington this weekend with the USEF/AVA National Vaulting Championships being contested August 2-5, 2012 at the Kentucky Horse Park. A total of 10 USEF national titles will be up for grabs this weekend as the best vaulters from across the United States descend upon the Alltech Arena.
This is the same venue that hosted the 2010 Vaulting World Championships as part of the Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games, where the U.S. claimed the Gold Medal in the Team competition. In 2012 the USEF/AVA National Vaulting Championships are held in conjunction with the National Festival hosting 291 vaulters from 21 states and 3 countries.
Three titles will be awarded in Team, Individual Female, and Individual Male Championships, with each division hosting competition in Gold, Silver, and Bronze sections. The tenth National Champion crown will be awarded in Pas de Deux competition.
The 2010 and 2011 Individual Female National Vaulting Champion, Mary McCormick, comes to Kentucky looking to score her third consecutive title. McCormick is no stranger to the Alltech Arena having represented the U.S. at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, where she vaulted to fourth place overall.
Team and Individual competition gets underway Thursday with all divisions performing in the Compulsory rounds. The Pas de Deux Championship begins with the first round of open competition Friday at 10:20am ET.
