Week II of the Pensacola Winter Circuit is in full swing and the $5,000 Horseflight Open Welcome kicked off the jumper action in the covered arena at the Escambia County Equestrian Center.

As first to go in the class, Mary Lisa Leffler of Brookeville, Maryland and Rolling Acres’ Bling Bling set the bar high for the rest of the horse and rider teams, posting double clear rounds in times of 69.169 seconds and 37.023 seconds, respectively, well within the first round time allowed of 73 seconds and the second round time allowed of 42 seconds.

All horse and rider teams following Leffler finished their first rounds with four jump faults until Hailey Rogge of Spring, Texas and Greg Burrow’s Curly Sue finished their first round with no jump faults, but their time of 74.117 earned them 2 time faults.

Shannon Hicks of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Helen Gilbert’s Emir D followed Rogge and posted a clear first round in a time of 68.424 seconds, advancing to the second round. However, four jump faults at the second fence in a time of 40.264 seconds would keep Leffler in the lead.

Christian Rogge, also of Spring, Texas, in the irons of his own Mojo TSP, followed Hicks. Four jump faults in their first round in a time of 67.119 seconds would find the pair finish in sixth place overall.

Hailey Rogge returned to the ring in the enviable last to go spot, this time aboard her own Zine Dine. The pair turned in double clear rounds in times of 69.416 seconds and 38.191 seconds, finishing second overall and leaving Leffler and Bling Bling the victors.

Third place was awarded to Hicks and Helen Gilbert’s Emir D and Hailey Rogge and Greg Burrow’s Curly Sue took fourth place honors. Hicks also picked up fifth place with Helen Gilbert’s C’Havinia after turning in a four fault first round effort in a time of 64.403. Christian Rogge and his own Mojo TSP took sixth place after earning four faults in their first round in a time of 67.119 seconds. Hailey Rogge and Andy Kocher’s Tresor Platiere placed seventh after picking up four faults in a first round time of 68.085 seconds. Leffler and EMC International’s Fluttershy finished in eighth place after posting a four fault first round in a time of 70.007 seconds.

Mary Lisa Leffler and Bling Bling Shine Bright in $30k Rockbridge Grand Prix

Lexington, Va. – May 3, 2016 – Mary Lisa Leffler and Bling Bling are kicking off the spring show season in winning form at the Virginia Horse Center. After earning a win in Ocala and a win in Atlanta, the duo can now add winning the $30,000 Rockbridge Grand Prix during the Lexington Spring Premiere to their growing list of accomplishments.

Leffler and Bling Bling’s double clear performance in the Saturday night’s highlight event was strong enough to earn them the top honors and they led the lap of honor. “We’re still a new partnership,” Leffler said. “I know she’s fast and she’s clever. She turns and burns, so for me, I could jump all those jumps on angles and not have to worry.”

The pair went fourth in the order, and Leffler did not have a chance to watch anyone go before her in the jump-off. She knew that the first few of riders had rails, and her quick wit combined with her horse’s agility sent them straight to the top of the leaderboard, while last year’s winners, Brooke Kemper and Classified, ended the class in second place.

Leffler has been competing at the Virginia Horse Center for as long as she can remember. She said, “It’s just one of my favorite events. Their hospitality – they try so hard the evening Grand Prix, they really put on a good horse show.”

“The best part of the whole thing was that my sister drove my parents down, so they got to see their horse finally go,” Leffler continued. “So having them there and winning was great!”

In the hunter ring, it was Joy Janouskovec that went home with top honors. Janouskovec and her mount Walk the Line won Friday night’s feature class, the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, besting a field of 21 competitors.

The competition at the Virginia Horse Center continues this week, hosting the Lexington Spring Encore Wednesday through Sunday, May 4-8. The Spring Encore will boast many different exciting events, featuring both the $30,000 George L. Ohrstrom Grand Prix and the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby.

The $30,000 George L. Ohrstrom, Jr. Grand Prix will be held on Saturday, May 7, in the Anderson Coliseum arena. Along with the winning presentation, there will be a Groom’s award presentation to the groom of the winning mount. Guests are also invited to join the course designer, Mr. Anderson Lima of Sao Paulo, Brazil, for a course walk before the class.

The $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby will take place Friday, May 6, at 5:00 pm in the Hilltop arena. In honor of the Virginia Horse Center’s 30th Anniversary, there will be a ‘Celebrate 30’ Wine & Cheese Party held at the Hilltop ring. The party will begin at 5:30 pm and run until the conclusion of the derby.

Mary Lisa Leffler and Bling Bling Shine at the Atlanta Spring Classic

Mary Lisa Leffler of Brookeville, Maryland had quite a weekend!  Friday started out with her winning the $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by Nalley Toyota Stonecrest, with Headlines, and Sunday she and Bling Bling shined in the $25,000 CWD, presented by EMO, when they took the win to close out the second week of the Atlanta Spring Classic.

Five advanced to the jump off on a course designed by Paul Jewel of Lambertville, New Jersey, who set the time allowed at 47 seconds.

Jason Berry of Staunton, Virginia, in the irons of Varios, winner of the Week I Horseflight Welcome, was first to go in the order. They went clear and posted a time of 43.926 seconds and set the new time to beat.

Paul Macrae of Alpharetta, Georgia, riding Darragh Kerin’s Corini, also went clear in the jump off, but their time of 44.501 would see the pair finish in fourth place overall.

Erin McGuire of Cornelius, North Carolina and her own Kasarr followed Macrae and posted a clear second round in a time of 43.854 which temporarily took the lead.

Leffler and Rolling Acres’ Bling Bling were next to go, and posted a clear round in a time of 42.987 seconds which took the lead.

Berry returned to the Olympic Arena, this time in the irons of Sandra Masur’s Luca Toni. A rail at the first fence and eight time faults for a total of 12 faults in a time of 53.606 would see them finish in fifth place overall and leave Leffler and Bling Bling with the win.

“The time in the first round was tight, so you really had to make your round a little neater. Time wasn’t an issue in the jump off. The lines were technical, so you had to think ahead,” commented Leffler. “I did an eight where everyone was doing a seven, so I could make a tighter turn and then galloped to the last fence because my horse is really fast,” she said.

“I just got Bling Bling in January,” said Leffler. “She’s a nine year old mare we bought from Hans Bings Stables in Holland,” she said. “Bling is a lot of fun. I showed her in one of the Ocala Grand Prix and got a second, but this is her first win,” she added.

Considering the Georgia International Horse Park installed all new footing last year, Leffler commented, “The footing was good and held really well,” she added. “And the footing in the big Oval Ring for the big Hunter Derby was excellent,” commented Leffler. “We got so much rain the night before the Derby that I didn’t even know if we could show,” she said. “I went early in the order and the footing held really well,” she added. Leffler and Headlines won the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, presented by Nalley Toyota Stonecrest.

Final placings had Aida Sanchez Long and Katie Barnette’s Catalyst finish in sixth place with one time fault in their first round in a time of 83.028. Amanda Forte of Glenmoore, Pennsylvania and Cerulean Stables, LLC’s HHS Louis finished in seventh place after posting a time of 83.651 seconds, which earned them one time fault.

Kris Killam of Naples, Florida returned for both eighth and ninth places with Helene Jones’ Skyfall after turning in a four fault first round in a time of 75.488 seconds and Mandy Killam’s Black Diamond after an eight fault first round in a time of 77.576 seconds. Leffler returned for tenth place with Rolling Acres’ Carlot, and Jennifer Ramsey of Crystal Beach, Ontario, Canada finished in eleventh place with Ronda Stavisky’s Diablo D’esquelmes after earning eight jump faults in a time of 82.242 seconds.

Leffler is returning home to Rolling Acres in Brookeville, Maryland. “It was a great opportunity to ride these horses we’ve been showing for twelve weeks and I’m going to take the next three off then start showing again,” she said. “It was a long twelve weeks,” she laughed.

OCALA, FL (March 7, 2012) – Emma Sullivan of Lafayette, Louisiana rode to victory under the lights on Saturday in the $15,000 Marshall & Sterling Child/Adult Jumper classic at HITS Ocala. She and Thinkslikeahorse’s Elder were the winning pair out of 65 who showed over International Course Designer Jack Robson’s first and second round tracks.

“I was so excited when I won – it was unbelievable! I really love this horse and he has been so much fun to ride,” said Sullivan. “It was a really difficult course and I saw some really fast rounds, so I knew the last turn to fence four had to be tight enough to win. You always risk a rail, but luckily we did it. I’d really like to thank my trainer, Aaron Vale, for everything and letting me ride this great horse, and my parents for being there.”

Robson, of Coronado, California presented 12 obstacles in the first round and repeated six in the jump-off with plenty of challenges in between.
