Jad Dana Soars to New Heights in $10,000 Greenberg Traurig 1.40m Stake

The 2024 ESP September horse show commenced on Friday morning with the 1.40m Open Jumper Stake, sponsored by Bainbridge Companies. In this competitive event, eleven horse-and-rider pairs took on Andy Christiansen’s (ECU) intricate course, with seven trying their hand at the jump-off. Michael Murphy (USA) secured the top position with the fastest clear round, finishing in 34.42 seconds on Kaida CM, owned by South Coast. Hadden Frost (GBR) took second place with a clear round time of 35.439 seconds aboard his own horse, Insider BH. Diego Javier Vivero Viteri (ECU) rounded out the top three with a clear time of 35.95 seconds on Daddy’s Destiny, owned by Nicole Velazco Magana.

The $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby (Hunt & Go), sponsored by Parlanti, was the day’s main hunter event in GDF Hunter Ring 2. Kierstin Antoniadis (USA) excelled with her horse, Vegas de Launay, earning first place with a combined score of 176. Keri Kampsen (USA) earned second place aboard Check Please, owned by Kampsen and Lexy Reed, with a score of 175.75, while also securing third with Barolo, also owned by both Kampsen and Lexy Reed, with a score of 174.

Saturday featured the Zen Elite Equestrian Center 1.35m Open Jumper Stake on the Derby Annex, where sixteen riders competed on Andy Christiansen’s course. Juan Manuel Gallego (COL) emerged as the winner with a double-clear performance on Niagara D’ive Z, owned by Gabriela Salazar Martinez, finishing in 42.499 seconds. Diego Javier Vivero Viteri (ECU) took the second spot with a clear round in 43.96 seconds on Dreamer De La Pointe, owned by Sebastian Rodriguez. The third position was claimed by Natalie Thornell (USA) with Jamiroquai, owned by Loveland Equine Investments, who achieved a fault-free time of 47.453 seconds.

On Saturday, the $1,000 2’6”/2’9” Hunter Derby (Hunt & Go), sponsored by ProElite, showcased the talents of top hunters. Emma Ensor (USA) claimed first place with her own Woodlands Teddybear, achieving a total score of 172. Emma Butchard-Nagata (USA) earned second with a score of 171 on Dia Diamond, owned by Marcia Germain. Kim Barone (USA) rounded out the top three with a score of 169 on Rupaul, owned by Cynthia Bulwicz.

Competition concluded on Sunday with the $10,000 Greenberg Traurig 1.40m Stake, but not before Lebanon’s Jad Dana galloped to victory aboard Leonidas in a competitive jump-off.

With only three of the thirteen pairs advancing to the jump-off, the class was sure to leave no stone unturned. Pulling out all the stops and emerging victorious, Dana and his mount, Leonidas, owned by Burr Associates Inc., put in the fastest round with a four-fault time of 32.484 seconds.

Juan Manuel Gallego (COL) secured the runner-up spot with a time of 35.355 seconds on Niagara D’ive Z, owned by Gabriela Salazar Martinez. Rounding out the podium was Dana on his second mount, Know It All, owned by Burr Associates Inc., with a time of 38.82 seconds.

Jad Dana and Leonidas Race to Victory in $10,000 Palm Beach Equine Clinic 1.40m Stake

The 2024 ESP Labor Day horse show got underway Friday morning with the 1.40m Open Jumper Stake, sponsored by Bainbridge Companies. Nine horse-and-rider pairs tried their hand at Hector Loyola’s (PUR) course, with six trying their hand at the jump-off. In the end, Luis Fernando Larrazabal (VEN) put in the quickest clear round with a time of 41.151 seconds aboard Condara, owned by Victoria Heurtematte. Earning second with a clear 41.318 second time was Richard Neal (USA) and his own Catemaco LS, while Jad Dana (LBN) rounded out the top results with a four-fault time of 38.863 aboard Leonidas, owned by Burr Associates Inc.

Saturday’s highlight class on the Derby Field was the Florida Coast Equipment 1.35m Open Jumper Stake with seven competitors dueling for the victory on the Hector Loyola-designed course. Coming out on top was Abigail Mc Ardle (USA) and Samuel Parot’s I&H Boogy Woogy with a double-clear time of 39.038 seconds. Taking the second-place title was Lia Screnci (USA) and her own Puccini Van Orti, with a clear time of 42.742 seconds. Rounding out the podium in the 1.35m Open Jumper Stake was Juan Manuel Bolanos Barrios (ESA) aboard Rondalla LS, owned by BZB Barn LLC, with a fault-free time of 43.253 seconds.

Saturday’s highlight hunter competition on the Derby Annex field was the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby (Hunt & Go), sponsored by Parlanti. A total of five riders went head-to-head with Isabel Coleman (USA) coming out on top with her own Fenway, with scores of 87 and 87 for a total score of 174. Earning the red rosette was Isabella Rowan (USA) and Irocco Grey S, owned by Carolex Stables LLC, with scores of 82 and 83 for a combined score of 165, while Francesca Rowan (USA) earned third with total score of 157 aboard Casallix, owned by Carolex Stables LLC.

Jad Dana (LBN) rose to the occasion Sunday morning, sealing the victory in the $10,000 Palm Beach Equine Clinic 1.40m Stake. Dana navigated Leonidas, owned by Burr Associates Inc., through the Héctor J Loyola (PUR) designed 12-obstacle course. Dana cleared the timers in a rapid fault-free time of 35.499 seconds to take the win.

Abigail Mc Ardle (USA) finished as runner-up with a time of 36.663 seconds with Olympia Van Het Eikenhof, owned by Sweetwater Jumpers LLC, while Luis Fernando Larrazabal (VEN) and Condara, owned by Victoria Heurtematte, took third with a four-fault time of 38.247 seconds.

After Eight Isn’t Too Late in CaptiveOne Advisors CSI5* 1.50m Classic

Lebanon’s Jad Dana and After Eight brought Week 9 at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) to an end by reaching a milestone win in the $78,000 CaptiveOne Advisors CSI5* 1.50m Classic on Sunday. The penultimate qualifier before the CaptiveOne Advisors 1.50m Championship during WEF 11 christened the first CSI5* win for both Dana and his mount.

Returning second to last in a 15-horse jump-off, Dana crossed the timers one hundredths of a second faster than Darragh Kenny (IRL) who took over the lead early in the second round.

Dana was almost speechless after his victory and still wore the smile that beamed as he crossed the final timers. “I went late in the jump-off, which is definitely an advantage because I got to see how fast they went. Honestly, when I saw Nayel, who ended up fourth, I didn’t think I could beat him, and I thought it would be impossible to beat Darragh.

“Even though my mare is very fast, the riders today had so much experience and they are incredibly talented,” continued Dana. “I truly thought I had no chance. I was happy to just be in the jump-off to start with. This mare tried her heart out for me today.”

Kate Hagerty and Kapatero Big Win in Voltaire Design Large Junior Hunter 3’6″ 16-17

Kate Hagerty and Kapatero sailed around the E. R. Mische Grand Hunter Ring on Sunday afternoon, claiming the championship ribbon during WEF 9 in the Voltaire Design Large Junior Hunter 3’6” 16-17 division.

Despite their young age, each hunter rider masterfully showcased their horse’s natural ability and movement. Hagerty and her 10-year-old gelding, Kapatero, impressed the judges with consistency. They scored two second-place finishes in a competitive field, posting both a 90 in the handy and an 87 in the stake for the runner-up ribbons. They also picked up a victory over fences on a score of 83.

Hagerty, thrilled with the results over two days of competition on a new mount, said, “We just imported him two months ago, so this circuit has been his first show in the U.S. He was a jumper in Europe before coming here and is making his hunter debut. He came out strong yesterday and he’s starting to become more consistent as he learns the job, so I wanted to go in and be smooth yesterday and he went right in and was amazing. So, I wanted to keep up that momentum heading into today.”

Jad Dana Ends WEF 1 on a Win

The first FEI week of the 2023 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) season ended with the CHF37,000 CaptiveOne Advisors 1.50m Classic in the international Ring on Sunday, January 15. Jad Dana (LBN) won the day aboard After Eight as the sun set over Wellington International.

Nick Granat (USA) designed a tricky twelve-obstacle course with a time allowed of 72 seconds. Fifty-nine riders vied for a clear round to take them into the jump-off. Only ten pairs managed to make it to the second round. In the end, it was Dana and his super mare, After Eight, a 2010 Swedish Warmblood (Diarado x Cardento) owned by Springhill Farm, with the quickest time of 37.70 seconds.

“She’s amazing and she’s been in top form; she won a grand prix two weeks ago and then she came out, was great in the first round and an even better jump-off,” said Dana of the mount he had a little over a year. “That was so fun to ride, and she makes it fun.”

Julie Hogan Takes Adult Amateur Tri-Color

The Vogel Adult Amateur Hunter 36-49 (Sec B) class helped conclude an exciting first week for hunters at WEF. The stars of the day were Julie Hogan and her lovely mare, Latoya, a 2013 mare by Languster Prydsholm, owned by The Ridge Farm LLC. Hogan and Latoya won three over fences classes and the under saddle to collect championship points.

“Everything went really smoothly today,” she said. “We had a really great day yesterday, winning both over fences, and we won the flat today, and I just wanted to go in today and put in a solid performance in the two over fences classes. My mare jumped really well and she’s a star.”

Jad Dana and After Eight Jump to Victory in $25k Palm Beach Equine Clinic Grand Prix

Wellington, FL – Sept. 5, 2021 – The ESP Labor Day horse show concluded with a second victory from the week going to Lebanon’s Jad Dana. Dana and After Eight edged out the competition in the $25,000 Palm Beach Equine Clinic Grand Prix to capture the lead spot in the victory gallop. The partnership mastered two tracks designed by Oscar Soberón (USA) as the fastest of five double-clear duos.

Early in the morning on Friday, Ashlee Bond (ISR) and Boheme de Fleyres, owned by Ashlee Bond Show Jumping, hit the ground running to take the blue ribbon in the $10,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.40m Open Stake. Only the fourth in the order, Bond and Boheme de Fleyres turned in a quick fault-free time of 38.74 seconds in the immediate jump-off to solidify themselves as the frontrunners and eventual winners.

In the Perfect Products 1.35m Stake on Saturday morning, Dana and Fleur-de-Lis’ Cherie, owned by Kathleen Gannon-Ledsome, ran away with the class as the clear-cut winners. Never letting up on the gas, Dana and Fleur de Lis’ Cherie went midway through the pack and tripped their jump-off timers without faults in a blazing 39.13 seconds. No other competitors were able to come close, giving Dana and his mount the first prize by nearly four seconds.

Sunday morning saw the Medium Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, presented by Equiline, challenge a field of horses and riders on the Derby Field. In the end, only three-hundredths of a second separated the top two finishers, with the victory going to Caroline Drummond of Wellington, FL on her own Tsunami with a double-clear time of 40.66 seconds.

Alejandro Karolyi Makes Winning Hunter Debut with Karma AB in $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby

In his first hunter class ever, Alejandro Karolyi of Wellington, FL rode Emily Cherney’s Karma AB straight to the top of the leaderboard in the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by Equiline. The partnership concluded the class as the clear victors after earning back-to-back scores of 86 for a final tally of 172, which included all four high-option bonus points from both the classic and handy rounds. A decorated jumper rider, Karolyi gave the hunters a shot for the very first time on Friday, and he proved to be a solid match for Karma AB, the 10-year-old mare that is making the switch from jumpers to the hunter ring.

The combined Amateur-Owner 3’6” Hunter/Junior 3’3” Hunter divisions, presented by Vita Flex, saw Adrienne Marciano of Collegeville, PA and her own Cooper ride to the championship rosette. Marciano and Cooper were the standout pair in the division after capturing four first-place finishes and a single second-place result to emerge as the clear leaders.

In the Pony Hunter division, presented by Dover Saddlery, Competition Farm LLC’s Skip Day carried Chase Spranklin of Weston, FL to the championship honors. The duo earned two first-place finishes, as well as two third-place results and a fourth-place ribbon to earn enough points to capture the overall title.
