Helping Hooves Headed to Newtown, CT
Along with many from around the world, we mourn with the families of Newtown, CT in the wake of the horrific tragedy which took the lives of so many, most of whom were 6 and 7 year old children. As we tried to think of ways in which we might help, we learned that Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses (a local non-profit charity) had been contacted to bring their team of miniature horses to work with the families who have been devastated by this unimaginable tragedy. As you may realize, this is an expensive undertaking. If you, too, are looking for a way to help, please consider supporting Gentle Carousel as they head out to aid this small, tight-knit community in dealing with the loss of so many. Clicking here will take you to their PayPal donation page. We would appreciate it if you could forward to your friends, family, and co-workers as they may be looking for ways to help as well.
The following information has been provided by Gentle Carousel about their mission and this trip.
Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. Our teams of tiny therapy horses work with over 18,000 adults and children each year inside hospitals, hospice programs, assisted living programs, schools and libraries. From visiting a child with a life ending illness to working with Alzheimer’s patients or foster children, our horses bring their special love where it is needed most.
Our therapy horse Magic was selected by TIME Magazine one of History’s Ten Most Heroic Animals (the only living animal on the list). She is also AARP‘s Most Heroic Pet in America and was one of Newsweek/The Daily Beast’s Ten Most Heroic Animals in America.
Magic and a team of Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses will be traveling to Newtown, CT to meet with children and first responders involved with the tragedy there. We were contacted by families and friends from the Sandy Hook school with the request for our horses.
The therapy horses have been busy with many holiday visits and December is always an expensive time of year for our charity. We never dreamed that we would be asked to take such a challenging trip at the end of the month with horses and volunteers. Any help with donations for travel expenses for the horses and volunteers would make a big difference. No donation (or horse) is too small to make a big difference!
