Canadian Dressage Frostbite Series Youth Fundraiser Clinics

Top Riders to Educate Ontario Youth and Raise Funds for Dressage

A new fundraising series will showcase this winter for Ontario Junior and Young Riders. The “Dressage Frostbite Series” was started because Ontario has talented riders that need support. This series will give Canadian youth the chance to learn from some of the best riders in the nation.

There will be a series of fundraising clinics for eight months beginning in October. At each clinic these talented young youth will have the opportunity to ride with a different Olympian, Short Listed “A” Rider or “O” judge. The goal will be to further their skills to prepare them for what is hoped to be a very successful 2013 show season.

The ultimate goal is to not only help these riders develop their skills, but to also bring the equine high performance community together to inspire the young riders who live in Ontario, Canada.

Chesterfield, SC — October 4, 2012 — Southern 8ths Farm has announced its sponsorship opportunities for the 2013 So8ths/Nikon Three-Day Event. Here’s your chance to have your business or service claim an “Official” sponsorship while at the same time reaching those people who represent a majority of the sport’s participants.

This will be the third annual So8ths/Nikon Three-Day Event in the “Heart of the Carolinas,” Chesterfield, SC.  This three-day event is where Beginner Novice, Novice and Training level riders can negotiate their ultimate Long Format test in a USEA recognized T3D, N3D and BN3D event.

When Brad Turley, owner of Southern 8ths Farm, endeavored into building his place, his goal was to create a premier horse park for Amateur Eventers. While Amateur riders are the nucleus, Professionals have also discovered this is the perfect place to train their up-and-coming horses at a facility that offers lower level options at a high quality venue. And Young Riders, as the future of the sport, are always welcome.

Equine Journalist Diana De Rosa Receives Press Club of Long Island Phil Spahn Award

The Press Club of Long Island presented equine journalist Diana De Rosa with their prestigious Phil Spahn award at their annual awards dinner on Thursday, June 7th. The Phil Spahn award is presented to a PCLI member who has demonstrated outstanding service to journalism, PCLI or to the community.  For the past three years De Rosa has been on the Board of the PCLI working diligently behind the scenes.

In her acceptance speech De Rosa commented, “Like many of you I am a journalist who lives on Long Island but unlike many of you most of what I report on is not on Long Island. In fact, this year I will be covering my 7th Olympic Games.”

De Rosa, who has had to sideline all her travels for the past month in order to care for her dad, continued noting, “Recently my dad had brain surgery – the result of a fall. It has demanded a lot of our time and energy as me and my siblings get through this rough time that won’t have a happy ending. Yet, I have not resented one second of sacrifice. Matter of fact, I value this time spent with him and the lessons I’ve learned. I feel when you believe in a person or organization it’s easy to give of your time and energy.”

The second annual So8ths/Nikon Three-Day Event in the Heart of the Carolinas took place May 3-6 at Southern 8ths Farm in Chesterfield, SC.  Riders, grooms, officials, spectators and guests were clearly impressed by the facilities, the show grounds, the social functions and the quality of clinicians who came to educate participants about the finer points of Long Format competition.

The event drew 38 competitors from beginner to Olympic level, with the more experienced riders using the weekend to give their lower-level horses mileage.  International four-star competitor Bonnie Mosser of Davidson, NC, who has competed numerous times at the prestigious Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, won the Training division aboard Isbond with 31.60 penalty points.  Risa Moon of Gray, ME, was second on Lily B (37.10), and British rider Lindsay Staiano Williams of Marshville, NC, finished third with Triumph II (39.20).  Risa and her husband, Richard Moon, shared the Best Turnout Award for the Training division.

If you haven’t been tracking the progress of the second annual So8ths/Nikon Three-Day Event in the “Heart of the Carolinas,” May 3-6, 2012, then it’s time you take notice. Why? Because some of the most talented Eventing riders and trainers are doing just that. They think so highly of this event that is focused on amateur riders and training-level horses that they are donating their time. They will serve as clinicians to the first event that will showcase all three of the lower levels (Beginner Novice, Novice and Training) as recognized three-day events.  In the past Training has been recognized at the three-day level but it was only this past February that BN and N were added into the fold by the U.S. Eventing Association.

What makes Southern 8ths Farm, Chesterfield, SC, so special is that this 300-acre paradise is like a mini-Rolex in that it has some of the best facilities in the nation, which are often only reserved for the upper lever riders. Here you have 45 permanent stalls, regulation size arenas, over three miles of manicured Roads & Tracks, a huge airy indoor arena and so much more.
