20 July 2011 – The Rolex One to Watch for June 2011 is German rider, Hans-Dieter Dreher. Based at the Grenzland Stud in Eimeldingen, Germany, the 39-year-old jumped from number 386 to 231 during June – a move up the Rolex Rankings of 155 places.
The Rolex One to Watch is an initiative which identifies the rider who has made the biggest jump within or into the Top 250 of the Rolex Rankings the previous month.
Hans-Dieter Dreher was born in Schopfheim in February 1972 and grew up on his parents’ riding yard in Adelhausen, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. He started riding as a six-year-old and was trained by his father, Horst Dreher, who was himself a successful rider in the region at this time.
Hans-Dieter began show jumping at nine years old, and by the age of 13 had won his first title as junior champion of Baden-Wuerttemberg. After completing school, he finished his professional education as a rider and later worked at a stable in Alsace, France for three years. He currently rides and trains at the Grenzland Stud in Eimeldingen in the south of Germany, owned by Dr. Carmen Vogt-Brändlin.
In April 2011, he bought the Argentinean-bred stallion, Magnus Romeo, from the former World Cup-winning rider, Beat Mändli. Aboard Magnus Romeo, Hans-Dieter won the Grand Prix at the CSI*** Pioletello in Italy. The partnership also finished fifth in Mannheim, and seventh at the German Championships in Balve. As a result, he was selected to start at the CHIO Aachen and is reportedly the first rider from Baden-Wuerttemberg to compete at the World Equestrian Festival.
Notable performances at the 2011 CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival include:
Position Event Horse
1st Sparkassen-Youngsters-Cup (1 & 2) Petit Prince GG
2nd RWE-Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia Magnus Romeo
2nd Prize of H&T Automotive Components Constantin B
12th Rolex Grand Prix Magnus Romeo
Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Dreher is married to Marion Dreher and has two sons, Jonas and Ben.

Hans Dieter is a wonderful rider! Magnus Romeo is not an easy horse to ride, in the past Clarissa Crotta, and Beat Mandli, excellent European Grand Prix riders rode him very well but without the success Hans Dieter Dreher is having. Magnus Romeo’s dam Happy Z is here in Florida!! At our farm in Ocala, the past year we bred her to Reggae Z (Radjah Z -Ramiro Z) and a very correct and already talented filly “Royal Victoria” was born. She will try to fill the shoes of her big brother Magnus Romeo, now wining in Europe but this time the story will start in Florida, USA!!!
