The cross country course has proven to be difficult in the CIC3* competition for the award of the patron Mr. Roman Roszkiewicz during the Equestrian Festival in Baborówko, as only two pairs finished without penalty points and in time: Oliver Townend (GBR) aboard Cillnabradden Evo and Maxime Livio (FRA) with Pica d’Or. The leader of the FEI ranking has taken the lead after dressage and kept it for the following day, finishing the cross country course without mistakes on obstacles and in time: 6:55 minutes. Before showjumping the British eventer has a 4,5 point advantage over Maxime Livio (FRA).

Maxime Livio (FRA) can certainly be happy. After dressage in the CIC3* the French rider was fourth with Opium de Verieres, 20th with Pica d’Or and 34th with Vitorio du Montet. After the challenging cross country course, Livio is second with Pica d’Or (finishing clear and in time) and 18th aboard Vitorio du Montet (with 14,4 penalty points for going over the time limit).

Andreas Dibowski (GER) has jumped from ninth to third position in the CIC3* competition (for the prize of the patron of the competition Mr Roman Roszkiewicz). The athlete has finished the cross country without any mistakes on the obstacles, but with a small penalty of 1,6 points for exceeding the time allowed.

Tim Price (NZL) was eliminated in CIC3* with Pats Jester as he fell off the horse in the second part of the cross country. The rider and the horse are feeling good.

CIC2* – the trophy of Kuhn Maszyny Rolnicze has a new leader: Mateusz Kiempa (POL) and Libertina, who made a really good ride in cross country. On the second place is Senne Vervaecke (BEL) with Jeno. Third place belongs to Andreas Dibowski (GER) on Belfast 35.

The ceremony of CIC1* was held – the trophy of Lotto. Yoshiaki Oiwa (JPN) with Bart L JRA has taken the lead after dressage and kept it for the following day. Second place won Paweł Warszawski (POL) with Frontiera and the third: Mateusz Kiempa (POL) with Ambrozio J.

Maxime Livio (FRA) and Clotaire de Ferivel are leading before show jumping in CICYH1*. Second place belongs to Stephanie Bohe (GER) with Romance P; third place to Paweł Warszawski (POL) and Hummer.

First CCI4* Win for Young French Star – Livio Beats Jung to Pau Victory

Maxime Livio (FRA) and Qalao Des Mers (Trevor Holt/FEI)

Lausanne (SUI), 16 October 2016 – To the delight of the French crowd, Maxime Livio (FRA) scored his first CCI4* victory by Jumping clear on Qalao Des Mers at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau, the first leg of the FEI Classics™ 2016/17, to finish on his Dressage score of 45.3.

Michael Jung (GER), the 2016 and 2012 individual Olympic gold medallist, held the lead after Cross Country on FischerRocana FST, his 2015 and 2016 Rolex Kentucky CCI4* winner. But Jung lowered two fences on the 11-year-old mare, moving down to third place, and handed the win to Livio.

Maxime Livio, 29, has a superb CCI4* record so far from just three attempts – he finished second on his debut at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau in 2014, and took the runner-up spot with the Selle Français 12-year-old Qalao Des Mers at Luhmühlen in June this year.

He said: “I’ve finished second at this level before, so finally to win is very special. I’ve had a marvellous time at Pau – the ground was well prepared, the courses were great and my horse performed well.”

Jung also finished second to Livio on FischerTakinou, having knocked one fence down on the nine-year-old on whom he won individual and team gold medals at the 2015 FEI European Eventing Championships at Blair Castle (GBR). “It is always disappointing to have a fence down, but I am happy with both my horses,” he said.

Jung also led Les 4 Etoiles de Pau going into the Jumping phase in 2015 on FischerRocana FST but hit one fence, handing victory to France’s Astier Nicolas, who went on to win team gold and individual silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Nicola Wilson (GBR) took fourth place with One Two Many, slipping from third place after knocking two show jumps down. Her fellow British rider, CCI4* first-timer Alexander Bragg, finished fifth on Zagreb after a faultless jumping round – one of just seven in the competition.

Camilla Speirs (IRL) was delighted with her Rio Olympics partner Portersize Just A Jiff – the pair rose from 32nd after Dressage to take sixth place with a double clear round in the cross country and jumping phases.

New Zealand’s Jock Paget finished seventh after picking up eight jumping faults with Clifton Signature, while Nicola Wilson filled a second top-10 spot with Annie Clover in eighth.

Thirty-five riders contested the final Jumping phase over a track, designed by Yann Royant (FRA) that was considered to be one of the biggest seen at CCI4* level this season.

Two horses were withdrawn before the final veterinary inspection; 10th-placed Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison (Sonja Johnson, AUS) and Fleet Street (Roo Fox, GBR) and two more were eliminated at the final veterinary inspection on Sunday morning – Cracker Jack, who lay in sixth place with Boyd Martin (USA), and Cooley Blue Flame, 35th with Katie O’Sullivan (IRL)

About the winner

Maxime Livio (FRA) runs his own stable, Ecurie Maxime Livio, near Saumur with his girlfriend, Jumping rider Mathilde Montginoux.

Maxime competed on French team at the FEI Junior and Young Rider European Eventing Championships, and made his senior championship debut at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2014.

His first major success came with his Les 4 Etoiles de Pau winner Qalao Des Mers in 2014, when they won the Saumur (FRA) CCI3*, but he had received international recognition when taking second place at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau aboard Cathar De Gamel in 2014.

Maxime’s family has no connection with horses, but he started having riding lessons as a small child and participated in all forms of competition. He trained at the Ecole Nationale d’Equitation de Saumur, and spent time with François Roemer and Nicolas Touzaint before setting up his own establishment.

FEI Tribunal Issues Final Decision on Maxime Livio (FRA) Case

Lausanne (SUI), 8 May 2015 – The FEI Tribunal has issued its final decision in the case involving the athlete Maxime Livio (FRA) and horse Qalao des Mers at the Eventing competition of the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014, following a positive finding for a Controlled Medication Substance.

The FEI Tribunal has imposed a six-month suspension on Livio, effective immediately from yesterday (7 May), in accordance with Article 169 of the FEI’s General Regulations and Article 10.2 of the Equine Controlled Medication Rules.

Livio has also been fined CHF 2,500, and will have to cover the B Sample analysis costs and contribute towards the costs of the judicial procedure.

Samples taken on 29 August 2014 from the horse Qalao des Mers (FEI ID 103MQ19) returned positive for Hydroxyethylpromazine sulfoxide, a metabolite of the sedative Acepromazine. Acepromazine is a Controlled Medication Substance on the FEI Prohibited Substances List. Controlled Medications are substances that are regularly used to treat horses, but which are not allowed in competition in order to maintain a level playing field.

The FEI Tribunal last month disqualified Livio and the French Eventing team from their placings at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014. Livio finished fifth in the individual competition and was also a member of the fourth-placed French team. As a result of the team disqualification, France has lost its Rio 2016 Olympic slot.

The FEI Tribunal ruled on the disqualification of Livio and the French Eventing team in last month’s partial decision following a request from the FEI that the Tribunal rule separately on this element of the case due to the consequences regarding Olympic qualification (see press release here).

View the FEI Tribunal’s final decision on this case here.

Rio 2016 qualifications: following the disqualification of the French team, the Canadian Eventing team, which finished seventh at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014, has moved up one place and is now qualified for Rio 2016.

The nations so far qualified for the Eventing competition at the 2016 Olympic Games are Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and the Netherlands. Brazil, as host nation, earns automatic team qualification for Rio 2016, although as with all other nations, individual team members must achieve the minimum eligibility requirements.

FEI Tribunal Disqualifies Maxime Livio (FRA) and French Eventing Team

Lausanne (SUI), 23 April 2015 – The FEI Tribunal has disqualified Maxime Livio (FRA) and Qalao des Mers from the Eventing competition of the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014, following a positive for a Controlled Medication substance. Livio, fifth in the individual rankings, was also a member of the French team, which finished fourth in Normandy to secure qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The FEI Tribunal has also disqualified the French team, resulting in the loss of its Olympic qualifying slot.

Controlled Medications are substances that are regularly used to treat horses but which are not allowed in competition in order to maintain a level playing field.

Any breach of the FEI’s Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations results in automatic disqualification of the rider/horse combination. Additionally, at Olympic Games or FEI World Equestrian Games™, a positive result for a team member will, except in exceptional circumstances, result in the disqualification of the whole team.

The FEI Tribunal ruled on the disqualification of Maxime Livio and the French Eventing team from their placings at the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy following a request from the FEI, due to the implications regarding Olympic qualification. In its partial decision, the Tribunal ruled solely on the disqualifications. A final decision on further sanctions will be issued at a later stage.

The text of the FEI Tribunal’s partial decision in the Qalao des Mers case is available here.

Following the disqualification of the French team, the Canadian Eventing team, which had originally finished seventh, moves up one place and is now qualified for Rio 2016.

The nations so far qualified for the Eventing competition at the 2016 Olympic Games are Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Australia, Ireland, and Canada. Brazil, as host nation, earns automatic team qualification for Rio 2016, although as with all other nations, individual team members must achieve the minimum eligibility requirements.

A second case involving Maxime Livio was dropped by the FEI earlier this month when the B sample from Bingo S, a borrowed horse ridden by Livio at a Jumping event in Thailand last November, failed to confirm the initial positive result.
