Mill Spring, NC – October 18, 2020 – Lorcan Gallagher (IRL) and Sangris Boy secured the win in the $25,000 Marshall & Sterling Insurance Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center and Resort (TIEC), stopping the jump-off timers in 36.574 seconds. Adrienne Sternlicht (USA) and the Starlight Farms 1 LLC mount Cadans Z, the 2009 Zangersheide mare (Carosso VDL x Navarone), barely missed first, taking second place with a time of 36.684. Hunter Holloway (USA) and Pepita Con Spita, the 2011 Westphalian Warmblood mare (Con Spirit 7 x Come On) owned by Hays Investment Corp., took third place honors with a final time of 37.793.

Sangris Boy’s long strides were a challenge in the first round, Gallagher said of the course designed by Guilherme Jorge (BRA), but came in handy in the jump-off. Out of 54 combinations, the duo delivered a strong win against nine jump-off competitors.

“My horse has a really big stride, so in the first round, a lot of the lines were quite short for me when they were normal for others. I was a little worried about the time allowed, but we turned tight and made it as efficient as we could. My horse jumped really well today so that made my life a lot easier! I knew there were a lot of fast people in the jump-off. The course had long gaps between each jump so I knew I could use the stride to my advantage. There were two rollbacks that I tried to be very tight and forward with,” explained Gallagher.

Augusta Iwasaki Claims Double Victory in $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby

October 16, 2020 – Augusta Iwasaki (USA) claimed double victory at Friday’s $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby at TIEC, taking first place aboard Attendu de Lannois Z with a two-round score of 377.5, and earning second place on Rolo with 377 points. Michael Britt-Leon (USA) and Private I, the 2012 Oldenburg gelding (Corrado x Verdi) owned by Kelly Sims, completed the podium with a third-place total of 375.5.

Iwasaki’s relationship with both mounts is relatively new, so she was pleased with her performance on each one. After only a month of training together, Attendu de Lannois Z, the 2013 Warmblood gelding (Unknown x Unknown) owned by Ashland Farms, proved to be a winning partner.

“This is his second Derby, and last week was his first. Last week, we were tenth,” explained Iwasaki. “He was really great in both rounds, we just had to get the Handy a little bit smoother. His transitions are so great, so when I did a tight rollback to the trot jump, we ended up walking. [Today], I just had to make sure to keep my leg on and get everything evened out.”

Lorcan Gallagher Earns 2018 Hagyard Challenge Series $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus

Lexington, Ky. – Oct. 15, 2018 – After capturing top prizes in grand prix events throughout the spring and summer, Ireland’s Lorcan Gallagher earned the $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus during the 2018 Hagyard Challenge Series.

The Hagyard Challenge series consisted of seven grand prix classes held during the 2018 show series at the Kentucky Horse Park. The series concluded with the $65,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Kentucky National Horse Show. Following that exciting competition, Gallagher was announced as the winner of the $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus and presented with the cash prize by the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.

Gallagher calls Lexington home for part of the year at Spy Coast Farm, and being able to win in the horse capital of the world made the victory that much more exciting. “It’s so great,” he said. “I wasn’t going to totally chase it, but after getting a few early results that did become a bit of a goal. To be able to pull it off at the end was really nice. We showed basically every show here. It’s great fences, always good course designers there, and the footing is always really good. It was great to be able to show at home basically every few weeks in the summer.”

Gallagher took home both first and third place during August’s $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic riding Hunters Conlypso and Charlie, respectively. His consistent results throughout the rest of this year’s Hagyard Challenge Series culminated in the leading rider bonus which he received at the Kentucky National Horse Show.

“Thank you to Hagyard for their support and to Kentucky Horse Shows. They really do a great job at running the shows; they’re very hospitable. And then of course the team at Sweet Oak, Shane and Ali Sweetnam – just thank you to them for their support and the horses,” Gallagher said.

Finish just behind Gallagher was Alex Granato coming in second place, while Darragh Kenny earned the third place spot in the rankings.

Lorcan Gallagher Dominates $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic

Photo: Lorcan Gallagher and Hunters Conlypso II.

Lexington, Ky. – Aug. 2, 2018 – The $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic proved to be a challenge for almost everyone except Ireland’s Lorcan Gallagher, who produced two of the only four clear rounds out of a starting field of 53 horse-and-athlete combinations on Thursday evening. Gallagher, who was ninth in the original order-of-go, produced the first clear round of the night on Hunters Conlypso II. There was not another clear round until he returned to the ring on Charlie. Facing off against veterans Todd Minikus and Alison Robitaille, Lorcan produced the fastest double-clear round on Hunters Conlypso II, stopping the clock in 42.139 seconds. Robitaille and Ace were hot on his heels with a double-clear ride that finished in 42.465 seconds. Gallagher was third on his second mount, while Minikus placed fourth with two unlucky rails over the short course.

Gallagher took over the ride on Hunters Conlypso II one year ago and their mutual trust in one another proved to be what made the difference in Thursday’s class. Owned by the Dacantos Group of Wellington, Florida, the 10-year-old Hanoverian stallion masterfully maneuvered through all of the challenges that were presented by Brazilian course designer Anderson Lima. Gallagher drew heavily on some of their past grand prix performances to produce the early clear in the first round, which held fast until Gallagher returned on Charlie. The crowd in the stands of the Rolex Stadium cheered as Gallagher and Charlie crossed the timers fault-free next in an unlikely but exciting turn of events.

Show Jumping veteran, Minikus, used the second of his two rides, Excel, owned by Autumn View Farm, to help ensure the crowd a jump-off. Another American favorite, Robitaille, piloted her own Ace to make it not only an incredibly competitive jump-off but also a battle of men versus women.

Gallagher returned to the jump-off with an intent to secure the lead with a competitive pace, which he did in spades. Although horses and riders are supposed to return to the ring for the jump-off in the order in which they competed in the first round, Gallagher was lucky that Robitaille stepped up to go second in the jump-off, allowing the Irishman time to prepare Charlie after his lightning fast round on Hunters Conlypso II. Although Ace gave it his all, the pair finished in a close second place. Charlie, who Gallagher has only recently started riding, secured third place and Minikus, who is always up for a good jump-off, had two unlucky rails to finish in fourth place.

Thursday’s first and third place finishes will comfortably seat Gallagher atop the leaderboard in the Hagyard Challenge Series with 550 points, ahead of fellow Irishman Darragh Kenny who has 470 points. The series consists of seven grand prix classes, where, following the final event, a cash prize of $50,000 will be awarded to the athlete who accumulates the most points throughout the summer competition. With series leading riders spread out across the country, the race for the bonus is still incredibly close.
