Jordan Coyle and Essenar Crixus Cruise to Win $30,000 American Standard Grand Prix

Mill Spring, NC – October 14, 2019 – Jordan Coyle (North Salem, NY) and Elan Farm’s Essenar Crixus came out on top in Sunday’s $30,000 American Standard Grand Prix to conclude Tryon Fall 4 competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) at Tryon Resort, stopping the jump-off timers at 36.89 seconds. Kristen VanderVeen (Wellington, FL) piloted Bull Run’s Almighty, the Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC-owned 2008 Hanoverian gelding (Caspar x Quidam De Revel), to clear the short course in a time of 38.6 seconds to earn reserve, while Conor Swail (Wellington, FL) and Gamble, the 2011 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Vingino x Indoctro) owned by Asta Torokvei, received third on a score of 38.964 seconds.

“I had him as a young horse in Ireland, actually, then when I came to America he went back to his owner,” Coyle shared before explaining that he just started working again with the 2010 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Luidam x Ard VDL Douglas) about a month ago: “This is my first real horse show with him. He jumped FEI this week, but he’s still a bit green so this class was perfect for him. We have big plans for this one, so come Florida, hopefully he’ll be ready to compete at the Grand Prix level.”

Course designer Peter Grant (CAN) welcomed back 13 horse-and-rider pairs to the jump-off from an initial field of 47 contestants. “It was a nice course – big enough but not too big for him. The jump-off was pretty wide open and I could let him gallop.” Coyle explained where he gained the lead during the jump-off: “Over to [jump] 12 it was a bit reckless, but I cantered and saw the straight [line] right away. He wasn’t really sure where he was going, I think. He just got it at the last minute, but he has to learn to do these things if he’s going to be as good as I hope.”

Coyle and Eristov Top Two-Horse Jump-Off for Longines Victory in Leon

Jordan Coyle (IRL) recorded the biggest win of his career when he topped a two-horse jump-off with Eristov to win the $1,910,000 (~$100,000 U.S.) Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Leon, the newest leg on the North American League.

Coyle, 25, and the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding had the disadvantageous position of having to jump first over Anderson Lima (BRA)’s shortened track at the Leon Equestrian Club. However, after crossing the timers in 40.37 seconds, they put the pressure on Salvador Onate (MEX) and Big Red, who were fresh off a win in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Guadalajara just two weeks prior. That pair settled for second with their 41.96-second clear round. Federico Fernandez (MEX) and Davidoff finished third, having recorded just a single time fault in the first round.

“My horse is naturally very fast,” Coyle said. “Going first, I wasn’t sure what to do, as I’m new to Mexico [and this show circuit]. I went as fast as I could go, and it worked.”

Clear rounds were hard to come by in the first round, as Coyle didn’t crack the code to a faultless performance until more than halfway through the class. Even an increase in the time allowed from 79 to 81 seconds only benefited Onate; Coyle was the only competitor to jump the first round cleanly and within the original time allowed.

One More Chance

The race for points and qualification for the 2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Gothenburg, Sweden will come down to the wire.

The west coast sub league has officially concluded, and Richard Spooner (USA) leads the standings with 49 points. Eve Jobs (USA) is hot on his heels with 48 points, and Nayel Nassar (EGY) sits in third with 46 points after prevailing in World Cup competition at both Thermal (USA) and Las Vegas (USA).

Beezie Madden (USA) leads the east coast standings with 58 points, but as the reigning World Cup Final Champion, she automatically qualifies. That leaves Molly Ashe Cawley (USA) in strong position with 55 points, just three behind Madden. Wilhelm Genn (GER), McLain Ward (USA), and Laura Kraut (USA) follow closely behind the top two with 47, 45, and 42 points, respectively.

There’s just one more chance for riders to punch their tickets to Gothenburg. The 2018-2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ North American League comes to a close with its final qualifier at Live Oak, Ocala. Part of the east coast sub league, the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Ocala gets underway 10 March 2019.

Jordan Coyle Races to Victory in Ottawa Speed Derby

Ottawa, Ontario –Ireland’s Jordan Coyle riding Mojo TSP blazed to victory in the $7,500 Speed Derby, presented by Millar Brooke Farm, on Sunday, July 15, to conclude the Ottawa National Horse Show at Wesley Clover Parks in Ottawa, ON.

When Coyle entered the grass ring midway through the 17-horse starting field, he was chasing the leading time of 83.30 seconds set by Kelly Soleau-Millar of Wellington, FL and Centre Ice, her 16-year-old grey Canadian-bred gelding.

Coyle and Mojo TSP, a nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding owned by Top Line Sporthorse International, bravely tackled the speed course set on Wesley Clover Parks’ grand prix field, which featured natural obstacles such as a steep bank and intimidating devil’s dyke. The pair left all the rails in place and raced through the timers in 80.18 seconds to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Kelley Robinson of Russell, ON riding Lise came the closest to catching Coyle’s time. They were fast, but not fast enough, settling for second place with a time of 82.97 seconds. Soleau-Millar’s time with Centre Ice held up for third place while 17-year-old Sam Walker of Nobleton, ON took fourth with a time of 83.77 seconds riding Laconia 7 after a four-second penalty was added to his time for a rail down. New Zealand’s Kirk Webby had the fastest time of the day, 77.72 seconds, but an eight-second penalty for a final time of 85.72 left him in fifth with The Irishman.

“I love going fast and speed derbies, especially when it’s four seconds added for each rail, give you a real chance to go fast,” said Coyle, 25, of the format that sees four seconds added to the rider’s time for each rail down.

While the Irish native has jumped numerous derbies in the past, it was the first time his mount had attempted a speed derby course.

“He’s very brave and nothing really fazes him,” said Coyle, who began riding Mojo TSP at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL earlier this year.  “He never did any schooling on the natural obstacles either, so I’m really happy with him today.”

Coyle is making his Ottawa Equestrian Tournaments debut and will continue competing in the nation’s capital during the CSI3* Ottawa International Horse Show, running July 18 to 22.

“Everything here has been great so far, and the field is perfect,” said Coyle, who hails from Northern Ireland.  “The grass here is as good as you’d get anywhere in the world.”

Speed continued to be the name of the game as horses and dogs then took the grass field for the entertaining $2,500 Canine-Equine Relay, presented by Royal LePage TEAM Realty. Horse and rider combinations negotiated a show jumping course before their canine partners from Dogz Canine Sports Centre in Nepean, ON tackled their own agility course.

Marcus Davis of Haliburton, ON riding Viekie and his canine partner, the Australian Shepherd Zuni, teamed up to post the winning time of 76.83 seconds. Finishing runner-up with a time of 79.88 seconds was Dutch competitor Frank Hendriks riding Nouvelle Bleue and his canine teammate, Stanley the Border Collie.  Third place went to Christine Carlsen of North York, ON riding Mise le Meas and Antic, an adorable Miniature American Shepherd, with a combined time of 80.80 seconds.

Jordan Coyle and Carlos Top $15,000 Turf Tour Grand Prix Week 2

Wellington, Florida (January 19, 2018) – The Irish came out in force for the second Turf Tour Grand Prix of 2018, taking the top two spots in a competitive class that only yielded 4 double clear efforts in the field of 27. Aboard Andy Kocher’s Carlos, Jordan Coyle of Derry, Northern Ireland leapt to victory over a course designed by Eric Hasbrouk on a jump-off time of 34.689 seconds. As the second last to go, Coyle bested his countryman James Chawke and GK Coco Chanel’s time (36.149) by nearly two seconds. The third place went to Portugal’s Sampaio Peix Rodrigo and Color Paint on a jump off time of 39.030 seconds.

“This was my first class ever with this horse, and only my second time riding him,” said Coyle, who rides out of Old Salem Farm and his own Jordan Coyle Show Jumping. “When I jumped him for the first time on Wednesday he felt like an absolute machine. Andy is in Europe at the moment, and I was able to convince him to give me the ride for today. The course was very good, and I think I took the turn to the double very tight, tighter than I had planned to, and I think that is what gave me the quicker time.”

Coyle’s brother, Daniel Coyle, has been a regular on the Turf Tour the last few years, winning a number of Grand Prix and other classes. After visiting and schooling at a Polo West Turf Tour in 2017, Jordan began riding for Old Salem and has already racked up a few top finishes since the beginning of season. “We jump a lot on the grass in Ireland, and both Daniel and I grew up riding and showing,” Coyle said. “After arriving at today’s event, I was proper impressed with the turnout and standard [of the Turf Tour]. I’m lucky to have the ride with Old Salem and grateful to Andy for giving me the chance to ride today.”

An early leader in the Grand Prix, Carly Anthony, fresh off a successful European tour, kicked off her winter season as the first double clear effort with Chacco. She ended fourth and fifth with Chacco and her other mount, Cookie 52, noting it as being a great start to her 2018 season. James Chawke, who also topped Wednesday’s 1.20-1.25m Jumper class with Flemins Bouncer, said he was using the show to bring along new horses and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. Sampaio Rodrigo and Colour Paint, in addition to finishing in the top three in the Grand Prix, topped the 1.20-1.25m division earlier in the day and is currently the champion in the Turf Tour’s 1.20m division standings.

Owen McWilliams and Secret Alloy Ace Friday Night Light’s Child Adult Classic; Joseph Aman and Echo Take the Speed Round

Polo West’s Polo Bar and Grill once again hosted a crowd of eager spectators as well as ambitious Child/Adult jumper riders as the second edition of The Ridge at Wellington’s Friday Night Lights wrapped up on January 19.

The 1.10m Child/Adult M&S Classic Qualifier was won by Austin, Texas’s own Owen McWilliams and Bickford Hill Show Stables’ Secret Alloy. “I come down every weekend for the winter shows with Don Stewart, and Friday Night Lights was a last-minute decision for us to practice for showing on Saturday,” said McWilliams. “I got on Secret Alloy for the first time last week and we clicked instantly. This was our first time riding under the lights, and he marched right out like he owned the place. It was a really fun round.”

The 1.10m Child/Adult Jumper Speed round went to Canada’s Joseph Aman and his own Echo, a ten-year-old Irish bred gelding. “Echo is such a fun horse,” said Aman. “I’ve had him for two years and he was my first horse. I loved the atmosphere, and it was very different having to show under the lights. Echo definitely was a bit excited with the spectators and the lights, and the lively atmosphere was really fun.” While originally being open to only Child/Adult competitors, The Ridge has recently added an Open Welcome Class so that riders and horses of all levels can experience the unique stadium atmosphere.

Jordan Coyle Takes Round One Victory in $35,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup

Wellington, FL – January 11, 2018 – The 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival continued with its second day of competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL on Thursday. Jordan Coyle (IRL) rode Eristov, owned by Andrew Kocher, to victory in the $35,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup Round One.

There are two highlight events for week 1 of WEF, sponsored by Wellington Regional Medical Center. They include the $75,000 Battle of the Sexes, presented by Wellington Regional Medical Center, to start the “Saturday Night Lights” series on Saturday, January 13, at 7 p.m., and the $75,000 Rosenbaum PLLC Grand Prix, the first grand prix of the season, on Sunday, January 14, at 2 p.m.

There were 36 entries in the first round of the $35,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup and they competed over a course set by Eric Hasbrouck of the United States. Eleven were clear to continue to the jump-off, to which 10 returned. Coyle and Eristov were fourth in the jump-off order, and had to follow a very quick time set by Todd Minikus (USA) and Victorio 5 of 37.999 seconds.
