Update on Commonwealth National at HITS Culpeper in April

Out of an abundance of caution and in the best interest of HITS exhibitors, their horses, and HITS employees, HITS President and CEO, Tom Struzzieri, made the decision to cancel the Commonwealth National Horse Show, April 15-19, at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia.

“Health and Safety come first,” said Struzzieri. “This was a tough decision. The Culpeper April show is one of our favorite shows all year, but the well-being of our exhibitors and staff is the top priority for us right now. We wanted to get the word out early so exhibitors, staff, and their families can make plans appropriately.”

The HITS Culpeper Summer Series at Commonwealth Park will now kick off with the two-week July Series, July 1-12, that will feature two USHJA National Hunter Derbies as well as USHJA Green Hunter Incentive qualifying classes. The August series runs two weeks, August 12-23, and the Culpeper Finals horse show closes the season September 23-27.

“We will be back for the summer and fall with bells on,” Struzzieri continued. “In the meantime, we hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you soon.”

The HITS Culpeper Prize list is available at HITSShows.com. If you have any questions regarding the April show, or would like assistance as you make plans for the Summer and Fall shows, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 845-246-8833 or info@hitsshows.com.

We will continue to closely monitor the health situation and stay in daily contact with appropriate officials and health experts for HITS Culpeper and all HITS Summer Horse Shows. We will post updates as needed on our website or HITS Facebook.

CULPEPER, VA (October 2, 2012) – Tracy Fenney finished another year of HITS horse shows doing what she does best – winning! The Flower Mound, Texas native has found Grand Prix success throughout the year at HITS Ocala, Saugerties, and Culpeper and made her third appearance in the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix this past September. As another year at HITS Culpeper comes to an end, Fenney aboard MTM Farm’s MTM Centano sealed a victory in Sunday’s $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, to earn her ninth Grand Prix victory at HITS in 2012.

“There’s no better way to end a year than with a win,” said Fenney. “Even though the course was challenging with some difficult turns and questions all across the field, this turned out to be such a good class.  Overall, I’m just really happy that we had such a great summer both here in Culpeper, as well as in Saugerties, and it’s nice to finish up victorious before heading back down to Texas. I’m so lucky to have great horses who work very hard to compete and win.”

CULPEPER, VA (August 30, 2012) – Peg Seals and Chelsea Ireland’s Surely returned to HITS Culpeper to capture their second victory in the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix at the Constitution Classic. Earlier in the summer at the Showday National, Seals and Surely picked up the blue ribbon to become one of Virginia’s top contenders for the second-annual Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final September 7-9, as part of HITS Championship Weekend in Saugerties, New York.

“This is a great class and a great opportunity to win such a large amount of prize money,” said Seals of Virginia Beach, Virginia. “I really enjoyed this class and I’m lucky to be able to ride such a nice horse that’s very competitive at this height.”

The two-round class was designed by Jerry Dougherty of Bokeelia, Florida and Seals was one of many outstanding junior, amateur and professional riders. She, however, posted the top score of 89 in the first round and coupled it with an 86.5 in the second for a total of 175.5 and the win.

CULPEPER, VA (August 27, 2012) – It all came down to speed in Sunday’s $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, as Tracy Fenney of Flower Mound, Texas and MTM Farm’s MTM Timon rode to their second victory during the Constitution Classic. Five of the seven pairs who advanced to the second round went double clear and looked to the clock to reveal the final results.

Douglas Russell of Ocala, Florida set the track with 15 jumping efforts and saw the majority of faults at the double combination at fence five, and the triple combination at the end of the course at fence 11.

“I never think a course looks easy when I walk it,” said Fenney. “But this course turned out to be really nice.”

Coming off a successful week at HITS Culpeper, Tracy Magness of Hughsville, Maryland was first to ride and posted the first clear round aboard Mr. & Mrs. John Bartko’s Tarco Van Ter Moude. She and Tarco Van Ter Moude also rode to the blue in Thursday’s Level 7 Jumper class. Ragan Roberts of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania guaranteed a jump-off with a clear round seven trips later on Quipit Group’s Quipit L.F. They were eventually joined by five more horses, two of which had Fenney in saddle.

CULPEPER, VA (August 20, 2012) – HITS is back in Virginia and Patty Stovel got things started in the Grand Prix ring this weekend with a win in the $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, aboard her own Carigor Z. Nineteen horses took to Jerry Dougherty’s 13-obstacle course and six conquered it to move onto the jump-off.

The Bokeelia, Florida course designer built a technical course that presented an oxer-to-oxer double combination at fence five and a triple combination at fence 12, which boasted tall verticals to yet another large vertical at the final fence of the course.

“This course was very careful, but it fit the group of horses that showed up to jump it very well,” said Stovel.

After watching six rounds, three of which were clear, Stovel and her 11-year-old Argentinean gelding made it four and joined the jump-off. Stovel and Carigor Z have been together since she purchased the horse as a three-year-old.

CULPEPER, NY (July 10, 2012) – Virginia Beach’s Peg Seals scored one for the professional riders competing in Saturday’s $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix as she captured the blue aboard Chelsea Ireland’s Surely to highlight the Showday National at HITS Commonwealth Park in Culpeper, Virginia.

Seals, a consistent winner at HITS Culpeper, scored her first Devoucoux victory of the 2012 season as she was the only professional rider represented in the top five.

“The field is always tough in Culpeper,” said Seals. “It was a great win and I look forward to many more this season.”

CULPEPER, VA (July 10, 2012) – Ramiro Quintana put just one month worth of work to good use as he piloted HH Narcos Du Marais to the top spot in Sunday’s $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, at HITS Culpeper. After just 30 days with the 11-year-old Selle Français gelding, owned by Double H Farm, Quintana found himself in the ribbons.

Despite a heat wave that blazed through much of the East over the weekend, horses and riders alike returned to HITS Culpeper to meet the Showday National’s qualifying opportunity for HITS Championship Weekend. Quintana of Wellington, Florida and “Narcos” led off the Sunday afternoon Grand Prix and were the first to go clear and pick up a qualifier for the famed Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix. He met four other pairs in the jump-off.

“The course was certainly suitable for the conditions, considering the heat,” said Quintana. “I think five was the perfect number clear and the course seemed to ask all the right questions.”
