Friday Night Fun Week I at the Atlanta Summer Classic

Miguel Ventura and Helen fly over the final fence in last night’s $10,000 Six Bar Class.

The entire show grounds packed the VIP tent and the stone walls surrounding the Olympic Arena last night as the second annual $10,000 Six Bar Class, presented by Regions Private Wealth Management, took center stage.

A field of fourteen horse and rider teams took to the series of six jumps which began at a height of 1.20 meters (3’11”). After two rounds the six fences were reduced to a series of four fences and after four rounds, were raised to a final fence height of 1.70 meters (5’7″). Only seven horses advanced to the final stage.

Courtney Osborne of Marietta, Georgia and Roger Seitzmeir’s Hibiscus were the first to tackle the final round and had a heartbreak rail at the final fence. Glenn Hartigan of Alpharetta, Georgia was next to go in the irons of Phyllis Hines’ Ace of Spies. The heartbreak rail at the final fence had them tied with Osborne and Hibiscus.

Michael Kocher of Tryon, North Carolina was next to challenge the four jumps in the irons of Judith Habeeb’s Secretive. However, a rail at the third fence with four jump faults had him tying with Osborne and Hartigan.

Lizzie Van Der Walde from Ann Arbor, Michigan and Anne Gardner’s Zippo Ii were next to go. However, after a rail at the third fence and refusal at the fourth, they elected to retire.

Richard Matthews of Odessa, Florida and Sheetal Patel’s No Doubt Vt followed Van Der Walde, but had rails at fence three and four.

Aaron Vale of Morriston, Florida in the irons of Donald Stewart’s Okla Homa were next to go and the first to go clean to the delight of the crowd!

Miguel Ventura of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Allison Ventura’s Helen were the last to go in the class and also turned in a clean round! The packed VIP tent and arena walls lined with spectators erupted with cheers!

“The Six Bar Class was very exciting and a competition that everyone can understand. The crowd was really on the edge of their seats. For many, it was the first time they have seen such a class,” commented Bell. “It was especially great to have our sponsors Regions Private Wealth Management with us to experience this well-loved, exciting event,” he added.

“To run this event in conjunction with the Annual Outback Steakhouse Dinner to benefit the Hope Clinic is fantastic. This is such a great charity and we are thrilled that we can partner with them in their fundraising efforts. Giving back is what true horse people do and I feel that our clientele embodies this sentiment.” Bell believes that philanthropic efforts not only give to worthy organizations, but also give back to the individuals participating in them ‘ten-fold.’ “It feels good to give back to the community,” he said.

The Hope Clinic provides affordable alternatives to the hospital emergency room for the primary care/ internal medicine medical needs of the uninsured in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The Hope Clinic was founded on March 29, 2002 by Dr. William Martin. The Hope Clinic’s mission is to provide the very highest quality of medical care to those with limited or no access to healthcare and to treat each patient with the utmost respect and kindness without regard to language, national origin, or ability to pay.

Atlanta Summer Classic Hosts the Annual Hope Clinic Fundraising Dinner

The Atlanta Summer Classic is a proud supporter of the Hope Clinic and will again be hosting the Annual Outback Steakhouse Dinner and silent auction to benefit the Hope Clinic this Friday night, June 12 in the VIP tent adjacent to the Olympic Arena.

The Hope Clinic provides affordable alternatives to the hospital emergency room for the primary care/internal medicine medical needs of the uninsured in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The Hope Clinic was founded March 29, 2002 by Dr. William Martin. After 30 years of practicing internal medicine in Gwinnett County, Dr. William Martin was seeing a trend he couldn’t ignore – an ever-growing number of needy patients falling through the cracks of the medical system.

He frequently saw patients get denied access to medical care because of their inability to pay or because their diagnoses left them uninsurable. Not only did this often result in personal, medical and economic tragedy for the patient and his or her family, it created an additional burden on existing ER facilities and ultimately, the entire community. Dr. Martin answered the call not only with a clinic that would provide healthcare for the community, but with an innovative and compassionate solution that benefits those who need it most.

The Hope Clinic’s mission is to provide the very highest quality of medical care to those with limited or no access to healthcare and to treat each patient with the utmost respect and kindness without regard to language, national origin, or ability to pay.

A total of 3,159 patients were served in 2014. Services include Chronic Care Management for those suffering multiple diagnosis, mental health care, well women care and acute care. The Hope Clinic’s goal is to provide a medical home to those who need it the most.

The Outback Steakhouse Charity dinner raises approximately $30,000 each year towards the Hope Clinic’s mission to provide services to the uninsured and indigent of Metro Atlanta through sponsorships and ticket sales. Outback Steakhouse will provide a buffet style menu at the VIP tent located at the Olympic Stadium during the Six Bar Class, presented by Regions Private Wealth Management. A silent auction is held during the event to raise money for the Hope Clinic. A cash bar is available as well. Tickets are $25 each or $200 for a table of 8.

Please join the Classic Company in giving back to a most deserving, local charity. Tickets are available in the show office.

Atlanta Summer Classic Countdown and Biosecurity Review

Harold Chopping and Caramo won last summer’s $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby.

Entries are piling up for the upcoming Atlanta Summer Classic set to take center stage at the Georgia International Horse Park June 10 through the 21st and it is shaping up to be another fabulous Classic Company event! For those of you who have not entered, the prize lists are online and you can still enter at horseshowsonline.com.

The Classic Company has always prided itself on its commitment to provide both equine and humans a safe, healthy competition. And, healthy horses mean happy riders. The upcoming Atlanta Summer Classic is no exception. To protect our equine partners, the following protocol will continue to be enforced:

  • A current negative Coggins test is required. It is strongly recommended that all horses be vaccinated for Equine EHV-1 (either modified live or killed vaccine) no sooner than 7 days prior and no later than 90 days prior to entering the show grounds. Most EHV-1 vaccines are only considered effective for 90 days. Check with your veterinarian about which vaccine you should use.
  • A Health Certificate must be signed by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of arrival at the show or whatever local state law requires.
  • Current vaccination against WNV, EEE, WEE, Tetanus and Rabies is strongly recommended.
  • You should be able to document your horse’s normal temperature before arrival. Please do not ship horses with elevated temperatures. It is recommended that you establish a log of temperatures taken at least twice daily. If there is an elevated temperature for more than a 24 hour period, please consult your local veterinarian immediately.
  • Every effort should be made to minimize stress and comingling of horses shipped long distances. Extra hours on a horse van, or moving from stable to stable is the fastest way to compromise your horses and the health of your neighbors’ horses.
  • Any horse on the show grounds with a fever of unknown origin or of suspicious origin must be reported to Show Management and to the Show Veterinarian. It is always better to err on the side of safety. Isolation stalls will either be available on the grounds or at a local veterinary practice if the need arises.
  • Please take the time to review equine good hygiene practices. Please convey the importance of this to your equine caretakers for their daily routines.

The Classic Company strives to provide a safe and enjoyable show experience. An important part of that experience is maintaining healthy horses. All updates will be posted on the Classic Company website.

Hassinger Equine Sports Medicine continues to be the Official Veterinarian Group for the Atlanta Classics. If you need to contact them prior to the show, visit their website or call 910.281.4845.

“Top competitions, great prize money, locations that will wow you, and southern hospitality make this circuit stand out from the others,” commented Bob Bell, President of Classic Company. “Many riders and their families are tired of dusty, hot rings in desolate show locations,” he said. “The Classic Company shows and Brownland Farm’s venue offer destination-location shows and the best customer service, including top notch complimentary exhibitor parties as well as VIP service,” he added.

The Atlanta Summer Classic at the Georgia International Horse Park kicks off the circuit on June 10th for two consecutive weeks of AA shows, including the USHJA International Hunter Derby, National Hunter Derbies, Grand Prix, Futures Classes, Pre-Green Incentives and more! There is something for everyone at the Atlanta Summer Classic!

Brownland Farms in Franklin, Tennessee is just 21 miles from downtown Nashville and kicks off following the Atlanta Summer Classic on June 24 through the 28 and again July 1 through the 5th. Celebrate the fourth of July in America’s Music City!

Six Bar a Success!

More than a thousand flocked to the ring to watch the inaugural $10,000 Six Bar class and the Outback Steakhouse Charity dinner was a sold out success with funds benefiting the Hope Clinic for its eighth consecutive year.

Classic Company Gives Back to the Hope Clinic

The $10,000 Six Bar class coincided with the Annual Outback Steakhouse Charity Dinner to benefit the Hope Clinic. The Hope Clinic was founded in 2002 by Dr. William Martin to provide an affordable alternative to the hospital emergency room for the primary care medical needs of the uninsured. The clinic is a vital part of Gwinnett’s healthcare safety net and supplies over half of the available charitable primary care capacity in the county. Dr. Martin and the team of providers at the Hope Clinic specialize in internal medicine and chronic care diagnosis. The Classic Company has supported the Hope Clinic for the past 8 years. “This is an incredibly worthy group. They provide a tremendous amount of services to the local community and provide the less fortunate with needed medical services. The Classic Company is one of their largest fundraising groups and we are so happy to work with them and help make a difference.”

As the Classic Company bids farewell to the Georgia International Horse Park until November, when it returns for the Atlanta Fall Classic, it is already en route to the Charleston Summer Classic where sun, fun and beaches and show jumping converge to make the best show-cation of your life!

Six Bar a Success at the Atlanta Summer Classic Week II

What a night! The Classic Company’s inaugural $10,000 Six Bar class was the talk of the horse show community Friday night at the Georgia International Horse Park which took place center stage in the Olympic Arena.

The event coincided with the Annual Outback Steakhouse Charity Dinner to benefit the Hope Clinic.

“The six bar class was amazing. There must have been 1,000 at the grand prix. Literally everyone at the show was watching!” commented Classic Company President Bob Bell.

“The class is a straight line of six fences. We started the first fence at 3’9. As each rider went clean, the fences were raised. We did four rounds and ended with the last fence at 5’10”. We ended up with a three way tie and the crowd just loved it!” said Bell.

The three victors were Martien Van Der Hoeven of Spring, Texas in the irons of Courtney DeHechavarria’s Easy Touch 4, Michael Murphy of Apopka, Florida riding Suzanne Dennis’ Bunny Hop, and Derek Peterson of Archer, Florida in the irons of Madddie Skimming’s Cassevel.

Paul McCrea of Alpharetta, Georgia rode Krista Jones’ Diamond DeLuxe and made it to the fourth round. But eight jump faults would keep them from the winner’s circle.

Van Der Hoeven also rode Augusta Pines Farm’s Nuateloe. The team was out after Round 3 saw them with four jump faults. Round 3 also claimed Sherry Hill of Cordele, Georgia on her own Bellami and Randii Goble of Friendsville, Tennessee aboard Icon Sporthorses, LLC’s Queen of Calla, both with four jump faults at the last fence. Round two spared all of the horse and riders and round one claimed Mary Katherine Hargreaves and her own Jump Start with eight jump faults.

During the event, the Annual Silent Auction also took place for those looking to make a win outside of the ring in the sold out tent. Outback Steakhouse served ribs, chicken breasts, Caesar salad and deserts. “The food was delicious and everyone had a great time,” said Bell.

$5,000 Open Welcome Jumpers

Thursday night the Open Jumpers saw 29 take to the course designed by internationally known course designer, Steve Stephens of Palmetto, Florida, but only 10 went clean. Stephens has designed courses for the Olympics and the Pan Am Games. He is one of the most well-known course designers in the world.

Of the ten that went clean, Derek Petersen’s Titus 2:11, ridden by Jared Petersen of Archer, Florida, won the class with a double clean round and jump off time of 31.013 seconds, well within the time allowed of 47 seconds. Trapatoni, owned by Billie Dorouet and ridden by David Jennings of Franklin, Tennessee, came in second after turning in double clear rounds and a jump off time in 32.06 seconds. Third place finisher was David Blake of Parkland, Florida aboard Doma Sue, owned by Pine Hollow Farm, after turning in double clear rounds and a jump off time of 33.221 seconds.
