Sydney Shulman and Villamoura Victorious in $37k Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3*

Mil Spring, NC – October 8, 2020 – Sydney Shulman (ISR) and Villamoura left out a few strides to top Tryon International Equestrian Center’s largest class held to date at the venue, winning the $37,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3* on a time of 32.3 seconds. Kristen VanderVeen (USA) and Bull Run’s Risen, the 2006 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Utopie x Indoctro) owned by Bull Run Jumpers, Inc., earned second place on a time of 33.64 seconds, while Alberto Michan (ISR) rounded out the podium aboard Cosa Nostra, the 2010 Oldenburg mare (Conthargos x Quintender) owned by Alberto Michan and Daniel Michan Halbinger, in a time of 34.06 seconds over the jump-off course.

The Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) course design tested a record 106 horse-and-rider pairs, with 27 pairs qualifying for the jump-off and 16 pairs ultimately challenging the short course. Previously, the largest class hosted at TIEC to date featured 102 entries. Not only did Shulman guide the 2009 Selle Francais mare (Diamant de Semilly x Unknown) owned by Jill Shulman to a win, but she also qualified J. Boston S.E., the 2009 Belgian Warmblood (Boris van het Kluisebos x Guido) owned by Jill and Sydney Shulman, and was the only rider to return for the second round with two mounts.

Amanda Derbyshire and Oasis Spirit Dominate $37,000 EquiSafe Global Power & Speed Stake CSI 3*

October 7, 2020 – Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Oasis Spirit dominated Wednesday’s $37,000 EquiSafe Global Power & Speed Stake CSI 3*, stopping the speed phase timers in 26.25 seconds. Just behind, David O’Brien (IRL) and Maldonado SCF, the 2012 Belgian Warmblood gelding (Diktator van de Boslandhoeve x Landino) owned by Spy Coast Farm LLC, cleared the speed phase in 26.538 seconds for second, while Karen Polle (JPN) and Jet Run, her own 2010 Oldenburg gelding (Chacco-Blue x Robin Z), collected third on a time of 26.928 seconds.

Derbyshire and her own 2010 Irish Sport Horse mare (Cobra x Lux Z) were one of 50 trips to challenge the power phase of the Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) course, with 32 horse-and-rider pairs proceeding to the speed portion.

Daniel Geitner and Fazous Fly to $1,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 3* Win

October 7, 2020 – Daniel Geitner (USA) and Fazous, the 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Up To Date x Purioso) owned by Oak Ledge Farm, sped to a win in Wednesday’s $1,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 3*, stopping the speed phase timers in 33.138 seconds. Holly Shepherd (USA) guided CHS Krooze to second on a time of 33.467 seconds with the 2010 Irish Sport Horse mare (Kroongraaf x Cruising) owned by Loretta Patterson, while Mavis Spencer (USA) and Con Calle, the 2009 Holsteiner gelding (Contendro II x Cassini II) owned by Georgy Sarah Maskrey-Segesman, rounded out the podium on a speed phase time of 34.064 seconds.

Amanda Derbyshire and Luibanta BH Leap to $37k Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 2* Win

Mill Spring, NC – June 25, 2020 – Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Luibanta BH bested the $37,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 2* at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) during Tryon Summer 3 competition, stopping the short-course timers in 37.785 seconds. Eduardo Menezes (BRA) and H5 Elvaro, the 2009 Dutch Warmblood stallion (Calvaro F.C. x Heartbreaker) owned by H5 Sport Horses LLC, earned second place on a short-course time of 38.23 seconds, while Jack Hardin Towell (USA) came in third aboard Rock Ridge Farms’ Gotcha, the 2011 Holsteiner mare (Stakkato x Cassini I), with a time of 38.246 seconds.

The course design by Peter Grant (CAN) saw 61 entries challenge the first-round track, with 19 pairs qualifying for the jump-off round. Derbyshire and the 2008 Irish Sport Horse mare (Luidam x Abantos) owned by herself and Gochman Sport Horse LLC were able to utilize their late standing in the order-of-go to earn the edge, she explained: “The course was nice. There were a lot of entries, so it was a big jump-off. I had the advantage of going right near the end, so I saw what I had to do and just went for it. The footing was perfect!”

Freddie Vazquez and Dontez Claim $6,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 2*

TIEC’s first international class of 2020 was hosted Wednesday in Tryon Stadium to kick off Tryon Summer 3 CSI 2* competition with the $6,000 Power & Speed Stake. Freddie Vazquez (PUR) and Dontez, a 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Verdi Tn x Wolfgang) owned by himself and G6 Holdings, cleared the speed phase in 38.74 seconds to take the win, as one of 58 entries to test the Peter Grant (CAN) course design and out of 41 pairs qualifying for the speed test. Fernando Cardenas Jr. (COL) and Quincy Too, a 2009 Zangersheide gelding owned by Fernando Cardenas, claimed second with a speed phase time of 39.721 seconds, while Schuyler Riley (USA) and the 2008 Belgian Warmblood stallion (Erco van T Roosakker x For Pleasure) owned by E2 Showjumpers, Iceman de Muze, rounded out the podium on a time of 40.567 seconds.

Amanda Derbyshire and McLain Ward Share Open Jumper Championship Honors at Devon

Devon, Pa. – June 1, 2019 – Since Tuesday, international horses and athletes have been competing for valuable points towards the week’s coveted Open Jumper championship, sponsored by Hermès. Following their top performances throughout the 2019 Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, Gochman Sport Horse LLC’s Roulette BH, ridden by Great Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire, and Double H Farm’s HH Azur, ridden by the USA’s McLain Ward, were crowned the 2019 Open Jumper champions and winners of the Little Big Man Challenge Trophy. Both horses tied with 15 points at the conclusion of Saturday’s $72,000 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake CSI4*, which was won by Derbyshire and Roulette BH.

Becky Gochman and Stephanie Danhakl Shine in Amateur-Owner Hunter Championships

The Amateur-Owner Hunter divisions wrapped up on Saturday with each section awarding the grand champion title to the athletes who accumulated the most points throughout two days of competition. The Devon Grand Amateur-Owner 3’6″ Hunter championship was awarded to Becky Gochman and Catch Me, while the Devon Grand Amateur-Owner 3’3″ Hunter championship, sponsored by Lugano Diamonds, was presented to Stephanie Danhakl and Enough Said.

Smith Lilly Rides Off in Three-Gaited Park Horse Stake with Extreme Ways

Saturday evening in the Dixon Oval closed out with several championships in the breed divisions. In the exciting Three-Gaited Park Horse Stake, Smith Lilly and Ceil and Kenny Wheeler’s Extreme Ways took the top spot after impressing the judges with his performance, manners, presence, quality, and conformation against six other competitors. They were awarded the championship cooler, sponsored by Misdee Wrigley Miller, as well as the Betsy Van Duren Memorial Perpetual Trophy.

Patience Pays Off for Amanda Derbyshire with WEF Challenge Cup Win

Wellington, FL – March 21, 2019 – Fresh off a win in Saturday night’s $134,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI 3*, Great Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire claimed another major victory on Thursday, March 21, at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), this time topping the $72,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup CSI 4* aboard Luibanta BH.

In Thursday’s featured class, 69 entries tried their hand at the track, set in the International Ring of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) showgrounds by Germany’s Olaf Petersen, Jr. Of those starters, 12 qualified for the jump-off round, and 10 elected to return to face off over the short course.

Derbyshire and her mount Luibanta BH, owned by Gochman Sport Horses, LLC, were the final combination to jump off, and when they entered the ring, the time to beat had been set at 42.72 seconds by the sixth entry to return, Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs riding Chica BZ.

Christopher Payne and Fibonacci Jump to Top of High Performance Conformation Hunters

Christopher Payne and Fibonacci picked up another champion ribbon on Thursday for Week 11 of the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival in the High Performance Conformation Hunters. Four of the best hunter professionals comprised the competitive class but ultimately Payne and Still Water Farm, LLC’s eight-year-old KWPN gelding (Carambole x Waomi) proved an unbeatable combination.

Fibonacci was awarded three first places and two seconds in the five division classes and was moved up in the rankings several times after the model. The gelding has only competed a total of five times over the 2019 circuit but has made an impression in the division having earned champion three times and reserve champion twice.

Derbyshire and Roulette BH Top All-Female Jump-Off in Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI 3*

Wellington, FL – March 16, 2019 – The highlight event for week 10 of the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) was the $134,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI 3* on Saturday, March 16, and coming away with the victory was Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) riding Roulette BH for Gochman Sport Horses LLC.

There were 45 entries in the grand prix, all competing over a course designed by Michel Vaillancourt of Canada. Of those entries, four found the path to a clear round and the jump-off.

In a fitting finish during Women’s History Month, four ladies were competing for the top spot in the grand prix.

Jordan Allen and Chevito Rock the Bruno Delgrange 16-17 Large Junior Hunter 3’6” Division

Some of the best junior hunter riders took to the Rost Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center on March 16 to see who would be named champion of the Bruno Delgrange Large Junior Hunter 16-17 3’6” division during Week 10. Hot off the heels of her major success during WCHR Hunter Week, Jordan Allen of West Bloomfield, MI piloted Chevito to the champion title on a total of 28.00 points.

Allen and the Rock Ridge Farms’ nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Chepetto x Vita Vi) have only been paired since Week 7 of WEF, but the two have already hit their stride under the tutelage of Ashland Farms and Brady Mitchell.

“He’s always so reliable and well-behaved, so I’m very lucky to be able to ride him,” Allen commented.

Amanda Derbyshire and Luibanta BH Win $70k Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup Round 4

Wellington, FL – February 1, 2018 – The fourth week of the 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival hosts jumpers on the grass derby field at the Equestrian Village at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC), show grounds of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival. Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Gochman Sport Horses LLC’s Luibanta BH were victorious in the $70,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup Round 4.

Sixty-four entries contested the WEF Challenge Cup, and 10 found the key to a clear round over Anderson Lima’s (BRA) course on the grass. It was Derbyshire and Luibanta BH, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare by Luidam x Abantos, who blazed around the jump-off to win in 47.50 seconds.

Victoria Colvin and Dragonstone Repeat Championship Performance in Pre-Green Hunter 3 & 4 Year Olds

Victoria Colvin and new partner, Dragonstone, owned by Bryan Baldwin, claimed their second championship win in the Pre-Green Hunter 3 & 4 Year Olds division on Thursday morning of WEF 4. The pair was first, second, and third over fences and first in the under saddle.

“This was my second time showing him,” said Colvin. “The first time I showed him he was champion as well. I have only been riding him for a bit, but he really is the sweetest and easiest horse.”
