Wellington, FL – April 29, 2013 – Mr. and Mrs. John Castle’s beloved Appaloosa, Spot, battled with the crippling disease of laminitis and led to the Castles’ enduring commitment to help find a cure.
The Castles’ experience with Spot’s laminitis, Spot’s depth of character, and the strong bond between the horse and his owners inspired the Castles to continue to fight laminitis in his name. The Castles were shocked to discover that so many horse owners were unaware of this very common disorder and that initially so little was known about this complicated disease.
The first Laminitis Conference was held in 2001 after the Castles partnered with Dr. James Orsini and his team at the New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania. The conference has been held every two years since as a gathering of international doctors and researchers to share new research and work together to inform and discuss new treatments and hopefully, one day, eradicate this devastating disease.
A captivating video narrated by Emmy Award winner and multiple-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close tells the story of Spot and other beloved horses who suffered from laminitis, including the famous racehorse Barbaro, and the history of the Laminitis Conference.
