Gulf Coast V

We just finished another great week in Gulfport.  We are so lucky how the weather man just can’t seem to guess anything right.  Anyway, we had a great week with great weather.  On Friday, Jeanne Pitre and Jeanne Hines threw a great party… complete with tenderloin, shrimp, smoked salmon, and the like.  Fresh flowers on all the tables and another wonderful band.  Thanks Jeanne.

Today was a giant day in Gulfport.   Today we started with a wonderful brunch free for all the exhibitors.  It was sponsored by Daniel and Cathy Geitner, Vick Russell, Fox Ridge Farm, M/M Travis Lubow, Pam Hayden, Holly Adams, Oakwell Farm, Equi-Fab, Tim Patrick – Farrier, Jewel Jumps, David Q Wright and Hunters Court, Benny’s Wash n Fold, and Gamboa Veterinary Services.   The show thanks all of you, the exhibitors thank you and management thanks you.  Wonderful way to start a Sunday and end five weeks of showing.  Special thanks to Jennifer Gamboa for coordinating these events each week.

On a sidenote, Jennifer has had lots of time to plan these wonderful breakfasts and the brunch because her wonderful husband, Dr. Juan Gamboa, has been very busy this circuit with Pre Purchase Exams.  I have passed his vet clinic late in the evening and he is still at work with horses in the stalls so they can be sold.  A good year to sell or buy horses was here in Gulfport.

Up at the Grand Prix ring we celebrated and honored the Wounded Worriers of South Mississippi.  The main sponsor tent was greatly expanded and we had a late luncheon for 300.  We drew for several raffles that raised money over the past eight weeks of shows, going back to Pensacola.  There were five winners for the one raffle.  The prizes were a year’s supply of Domino’s Pizza, a year’s supply of Coca-Cola, a year’s supply of Budweiser, and two cash awards of $500 each.  The second raffle was for stalls and that was a giant success.  The third fundraising idea was a donated custom jump of which was donated by Showtime Jump Co.  The total raised was about $ 10,000.00 in all and the day was a tremendous success for awareness to our local veterans.  Thank you to all that supported our charity.

We also had classes to mention… our show was not just parties.

The $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby was won by Belvedere, Ellen Herrington owner and ridden by Holly Shepherd.
