Dzavik Is Jumping Her Way Up

Tatiana Dzavik and Delphine.

November 30th, 2014 – Since moving to Europe just eleven months ago, Tatiana Dzavik’s determination, long hours, hard work, talent, and devotion have taken her places. The knowledge she has gained is invaluable, and the list of successes impressive.

In this first year of having her own business, Dzavik has accomplished things she never thought possible. “I am beyond grateful for all the support I have had from friends, owners, sponsors, and my family. The first year of a new business is always difficult. There will always be down periods, but quite surprisingly, this first year has given me far more ups than downs. For that I am proud of my team and grateful to every single person who has helped me along the way,” the aspiring show jumper said.

Success in Spain, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, France, and Poland
An ideal place to spend the winter, the Sunshine Tour in Spain in February 2014 at Vejer de la Frontera helped to get her horses into top form after their winter break. Dzavik and Delphine placed 2nd in the CSI*** Ladies Tour Final in a field of 52 riders. Seven-year-old Chapman ET won two Young Horse classes. This lovely stallion quickly became a hot commodity. Just two weeks into the Sunshine Tour, Chapman was sold to top international rider and trainer Vincent Voorn.

Four weeks into the sunshine tour, Dzavik was given the ride on Coriander Van’t Vennehof. Despite not knowing Coriander at all, either on the ground or in the saddle, Dzavik piloted him to a clear round and a 9th place finish in the 1.50m Grand Prix qualifier, and an 11th place in the 1.50m ranking class the following day.

The spring season included the Lummen CSI*** in Belgium in March, to Eschweiler CSI** in Germany in April. In Eschweiler, Delphine won the first medium tour qualification class on Friday, which led to another top prize in the Saturday Grand Prix. While just getting to know each other, she and her newest mount Coriander placed 4th in the 2* Grand Prix, and Dzavik took home the ‘Leading Lady Rider’ award.

Back to Belgium for the Opglabbeek CSI** in May, where Delphine continued her winning streak in the first Grand Prix Qualifier, and Coriander placed 9th in the 2* Sunday Grand Prix. At Roosendaal, The Netherlands, in late May, Friesel VD Bakker won the Saturday Grand Prix CSI**.

Mid-month in The Netherlands at Arnhem CSI***, Dzavik reported, “Cori used his pony wings to jump a beautiful clear round in the 1.50m world ranking class, and finished with only one time fault, qualifying him for the big Grand Prix. Delphi was 2nd in the 1.45m ranking class.”

Then it was on to Megeve CSI***, in France in July, followed by the Zuidwolde CSI**. All horses were in top form, taking home nice placings, with a win for Coriander in the Sunday Grand Prix of Zuidwolde. Shortly after his victory, Coriander was sold to a member of the Saudi Equestrian Team.

In week one of the Baltica Equestrian Tour in Choczewo, Poland, Dzavik and Delphine claimed the top spot in the Grand Prix. For the second week in a row, Quel Cadans won the 6-year-old Young Horse Final, and up-and-coming Hot Shot jumped into third while Himalaya finished 4th in the 7-year-old Young Horse Final. Plus Winslow High took 5th place in Sunday’s 1.40m speed class.

The Tour ended in Slovakia with the Samorin CSI***. After her success and hard work in the previous two weeks, Delphine just did the medium tour, but was still in form as she won the Medium Tour Qualifier the first day and placed 3rd in the Medium Tour Final. Winslow High took 4th place in the derby class (1.40-1.45m) on Friday, and the young horses Hot Shot and Quel Cadans jumped clear rounds each day.

Connecting with Her Mounts
One of Dzavik’s natural talents is her ability to connect on an emotional level with her horses. Of Delphine, Dzavik has said, “She’s unique, very sensitive, and started out hot to ride, but once we connected it really clicked. She has been more than I could ever have asked for.”

Of her young horses, some who have already sold, Dzavik explains, “It’s very special feeling to develop young horses, form a bond and see them become superstars.”

Living the Dream
What began as a childhood dream has evolved into a professional goal of developing a team of internationally competitive horses and to one day represent Canada in international competition. Dzavik has overcome career-threatening injuries with grace and determination, and she knew that leaving the comforts of home to live and compete in Europe was the next step on her path.

Dzavik has been pushing herself and fighting for her dreams from a very young age. “I work with the horses and I sleep; that is all I do.”

But she’s advancing ever closer to her goal. “There are no words to describe how it feels to be living in Europe and having my own organization, staff, and team of sponsors. I’m truly living my dream and have accomplished so many goals in my first year. I can honestly say I have never felt stronger or happier, and I enjoy what I do every single day.”
