Wellington, FL – December 13, 2012 − VetVine, a site for veterinary professionals providing accredited, relevant and convenient online continuing education for individuals and hospital teams, has recently expanded its offerings to equine education. VetVine provides a cost-effective and practical solution to earning CE credit while learning the most current information on a particular topic.

Joan Norton VMD, DACVIM, of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources (NVCER), will provide a series of accredited coursework for the equine practitioners. Dr. Norton, known as an energetic and engaging presenter, was recently a guest and subject matter expert on Health Matters on National Public Radio and Rick Lamb’s The Horse Show. She was also a popular presenter at Equine Affaire in Massachusetts this fall.

The first CE event Dr. Norton will lead, New Techniques in Diagnosing and Treating Equine Metabolic Syndrome, is scheduled for January 8, 2013.

“Recent research suggests that simple stall-side tests for diagnosing EMS may be more appropriate than the previously thought ‘gold standard’ complex techniques,” explained Dr. Norton, who speaks regularly on the topic. “A greater understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease has led us to use tests that incorporate testing of GI tract function. These revelations of the intestine’s involvement in this disease process have also caused us to rethink some therapeutics that were thought to be ineffective. This lecture will review the pathogenesis of EMS as well as the newer techniques for on-farm diagnosis and treatment regimes.”
