The Horse’s Mouth TV, Canada’s horse-focussed TV show, completes its first season of 13 episodes, airing on Shaw Cable 10 in Calgary, Alberta and at www.thehorsesmouthtv.com.  Telling “amazing stories of horses and their people” is the show’s mandate and my inspiration as its volunteer host and producer.

Eight minutes long (save for episode #8 which is a full 28 minute segment), the Horse’s Mouth TV captures the dedication and love of horses our guest stars have. Our guest stars run the gamut of horse industry professionals: some acclaimed and some unsung heroes, but each one dedicated to sharing their lives with horses in a significant way. It is their stories I want to tell and use my gift as an equine journalist to do so.

The idea for a horse-focussed TV show came about during a dinner conversation with friends. With the success of melodramatic reality TV that brought the worst of mankind to the screen, I was concerned at how quickly urban dwelling people had lost touch with horses, on whose back most North American cities were built. What if I could act as a conduit for the horse community and create a horse based TV show, I wondered?

Equine Therapy on the T.V.? by Claire Dorotik

With America’s endless fascination with horse racing, and his own personal history with the sport, it’s no surprise that David Milch decided to introduce a new HBO series with horses right at the heart. Boasting such fame as Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Kevin Dunn, and even real life former jockey, Gary Stevens, “Luck” promises a thrilling ride.

While many books such as Seabiscuit, Ruffian, Wild Ride, and Secretariat have offered the public a glimpse into the inner workings of the thoroughbred racing industry, never before has a television series revolved around it.

And this time, not just the details of the pick six, trifecta, and boxed bets are revealed, but the intricate relationships that comprise life at the track are given their due time as well, as viewers are introduced to “Ace” played by Dustin Hoffman as the ex-con race horse owner trying to make his way back onto the track.

Wellington, FL – January 20, 2012 – Sixteen of the toughest warriors in the country will face off in a bone-crushing competition in Full Metal Jousting, a new one-hour series premiering Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 10 p.m. HISTORY. James H. Fairclough II, of Cavalier Show Jumping, joined the cast for their inaugural season.

Renowned jouster Shane Adams will be the host for Full Metal Jousting. High-speed cameras capture every punishing blow as jousters charge and collide at 30 miles per hour. The last man standing takes home a $100,000 cash prize.

Although some may have seen jousting at exhibitions such as the Renaissance Fair, the combat in Full Meal Jousting is not choreographed at all — it is 100% authentic. There is a twist, however: the traditional armor is replaced with modern suits of steel weighing 80 pounds, and 11-foot-long, solid fir lances are used as weapons.
