SAUGERTIES, NY (September 14, 2012) – Whirlaway Acres, LLC’s Woodrow was only imported from Europe a year ago, but has delivered several Champion and Reserve Champion titles to rider BJ Ehrhardt since, including yesterday’s Adequan Working Hunter Championship at Marshall & Sterling League National Finals. After a successful season at HITS-on-the-Hudson, Ehrhardt of Goshen, New York capped her summer season with a Championship on the 10-year-old Warmblood gelding.

“He hasn’t been in the country very long, but he is doing wonderfully,” said Ehrhardt. “He is super brave with a big stride, so this ring suits him. He is always pleasant to the jumps and performed perfectly.”

After a third-place ribbon in the Adequan Working Hunter class on Wednesday, Ehrhardt and Woodrow returned to the Strongid C 2X Grand Prix Stadium to put up a score of 85 in the stake class. She also rode to second place under saddle to secure the Championship.

Ehrhardt is in Saugerties this week with several of her students who will be competing throughout the week in a range of classes, including the HITS Hunters, Children’s Equitation, Adult Jumpers and beyond. Like many, she chooses the annual Marshall & Sterling League National Finals as a special year-end goal for her riders.

“I really like to bring my students here because it’s a finals that they can shoot for all year long,” added Ehrhardt. “The courses rode great today and we have been riding here all summer, so we were prepared for this ring and ready to compete.”

Taking Reserve Champion honors was Melissa Feller of Lincoln Park, New Jersey. She piloted Robert Beck’s Maverick to a win in Wednesday’s Adequan Working Hunter class and was hot on the heels of Ehrhardt today with a score of 84 for second place. The pair was seventh in the under saddle.

Hunter action at Marshall & Sterling League National Finals continues today as Children’s and Adult Working Hunters riders chase blue ribbons. Competitors will also be treated to a year-end awards ceremony, which will take place at the celebrated Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern in downtown Saugerties tonight at 6 pm. The evening will honor the Marshall & Sterling League year-end award winners and offer a dinner buffet with music and dancing to follow.
