Dr. Cesar Parra Fine Tunes His Riding and His Horses in Germany with Hubertus Schmidt

Wellington, FL (November 12, 2010) – International dressage rider Dr. Cesar Parra, well known for his positive outlook on life and his winning ways in the dressage ring, is currently in Europe training with Hubertus Schmidt. Parra, a superstar dressage rider from Colombia who became an American citizen in December 2008 and now proudly rides for the United States, wowed dressage crowds from Wellington to Devon with his success during 2010.

“I feel very blessed to be training with Hubertus Schmidt,” Parra said. “He has such a fantastic way with the horses and we have a really good relationship working together. We are staying at his barn for a couple of months and hope to fine tune the horses, as well as myself, for the Florida competition season.”

Atlanta Fall Classic – One

November 14, 2010 – Today we finished the first of two weeks in Conyers, Ga.  We had a great week of showing.   The highlights of the shows started with the Welcome Class that was won by David Jennings riding Tornado, owned by Two Shannons Farm.  There were 33 in the class.

This show was the host of the Zone 4 Finals and the following were the Champions.  Congrats to all.

Conyers, GA — November 14, 2010 — Classic Company’s Season Finale event, the Atlanta Fall Classics, is a virtual cornucopia of equestrian competition with everything from Zone Championships to a $25,000 Adult-Child Jumper Classic to a show jumping Grand Prix just in the first week. “We always like to end our year big!” Classic Company President Bob Bell quipped.

Friday’s kick off of head to head competition began with the USHJA National Hunter Classic. This event is considered a stepping stone to the regular Hunter Derbies for many and designer Joe Carnicone gave riders a taste of that experience with a layout offering four higher option fences to garnish bonus points. Top scores were invited to return for a handy round in which an overall point total would determine the victor. Round one found Camden, SC favorite Elizabeth Boyd riding the Lee Cesery owned Marquis to an early lead, but the young talents of Marlena Parker and Edie Ringger were right on her coat tails. And when the scores were tallied it was Edie Ringger of Midland, GA with her mount Norway de la Fosse taking the number one position.

To Deworm or Not to Deworm

Parasites, both internal and external, have been around as long as man and beast.  But are they all bad?

There is current evidence that some parasitic load is beneficial for developing the immune system, decreasing the incidence of allergies, and balancing the gut flora.  However, too many parasites can lead to colic, anemia (lack of blood), weight loss, and damage to various organs.  Age, overall health, risk to exposure, and geographical location all need to be considered when developing a deworming schedule.

Requesting your veterinarian to run fecals and fecal egg counts can help determine the frequency of deworming for your specific horse or herd.  Realize that all dewormers have a very low risk of potential side effects, including diarrhea which can be offset by administering pre & probiotics.

Farnam All-Around Amateur Is Crowned at World Show

Adelaide Moncrief of Fort Worth, Texas, takes the top honor and more than $15,000 in prizes.

The American Quarter Horse Journal, Oklahoma City – The American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show offers exciting competition for American Quarter Horse Association members November 6-20 at State Fair Park.

The Farnam All-Around Amateur award is the top honor at the Bank of America Amateur World Championship Show. It is awarded to the exhibitor who earns the most points in three or more events in two categories during the show. The winner receives $15,000 plus $1,000 in Farnam product, an original Lisa Perry bronze and a WeatherBeeta blanket.

This year’s Farnam All-Around Amateur Award was presented November 12 to Adelaide Moncrief of Forth Worth, Texas, who showed her 1996 bay gelding, Steady Spirit, in four events.

Just some Updates…

The Atlanta Fall Classic is well underway and we are having great weather and a great competition.  We have some stalls available for next week… we will be having two $25k Open Grand Prix Classes plus Double Classic Money for Hunters and Jumpers plus the National Classic Equitation Finals.  If you want stalls, please call us a 770 602 2510.

Miniature Horse Shows Off High Jumping Skills and Gets Crowd on Their Feet during Opening Ceremonies at Syracuse Invitational

Syracuse, NY (November 12, 2010) – A tiny American Miniature Horse named Royal Oaks Impressive Rolex showed off his jumping skills in a big way during the opening ceremony of the Syracuse Invitational Sport Horse Tournament. Rolex, owned by Stephanie Himlin of New York, is a five-year-old gelding that is registered with the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR).

“This was the second year that Rolex took part in the opening ceremony and people remembered him from last year and it was a great success. The opening was a real crowd pleaser and people were going nuts,” Himlin said.

Rolex had big hooves to fill, as he performed in front of Olympic horses from all over the world. “Rolex did the opening act on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and was also in the Parade of Breeds. We did one jump to get the crowd on their feet and then we stood by the military and the gentleman who played the anthem on his trumpet,” Himlin said. “It really was beautiful. As soon as the trumpet ended, they introduced us and then the first Olympic horse entered.”

IF ANIMALS COULD TALK … “As the Wild Goose Flies” … Ron Hevener

It was business as usual … Political strategists were advising British Petroleum on how to save face … Republicans were debating the merits of tea … the stock exchange was crashing on Wednesday and rallying by Friday, the same as always, and nobody could decide which movies were worth watching any more.

On TV, America was dancing with the stars, England was judging everybody’s talent and immigration was the subject du jour of national debate as flocks of wild birds and hordes of colorful butterflies flew as they had always flown – free and beautiful on magnetic paths only they could sense, pulling them towards a destiny only they could imagine.

Nobody bothered asking the birds what they thought of migration. What could common birds and butterflies know about pulling up their roots and starting a life all over again some place else? They didn’t have jobs, houses, cars and passports. Butterflies were made for catching in jars, pinning under glass in scientific biology collections and wreaking their revenge by splattering themselves on windshields at high speeds. Birds? Birds were just feather-brains ….

“Did you see that!” a magnificent gander piloting the flock shouted to his followers as they flew into the night.

Combined Driver Chester Weber Speaks At CHA Conference at Oaks of Lake City

Lake City, FL (November 11, 2010) – Combined Driver Chester Weber is passionate about driving and never misses an opportunity to share his passion for the sport. As the reigning eight-time USEF National Four-In-Hand Combined Driving Champion, Weber spoke recently at the CHA Conference at the Oaks of Lake City, home of the O’Connor Signature Equestrian Center in Lake City, Florida.

“While at the Oaks of Lake City Equestrian Center I had the chance to introduce the sport of combined driving to everyone attending the conference,” Weber said. “It was an intimate group, so in addition to demonstrating different aspects of combined driving, I was also able to field questions from individuals.”

Weber is fresh off his third time competing in the World Equestrian Games. Weber, along with U.S. Combined Driving teammates James Fairclough and Tucker Johnson, won the team silver medal at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky. Weber won the cones phase of the Combined Driving event with an almost record-setting time to help the U.S. Team clinch the silver medal.
