Ocala, FL (July 12, 2010) – The Sanctuary Equine Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation Center in Ocala, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the healing, conditioning and well being of all equine athletes, is now sponsoring international dressage rider Marco Bernal. A Colombian dressage rider and owner of Marco Bernal International Dressage in Wellington, Bernal has a long and accomplished dressage career which includes representing his country in the prestigious 2009 Rolex FEI World Cup in Las Vegas.

“I became acquainted with The Sanctuary during the Palm Beach Dressage Derby when I won a jog they were sponsoring. My farriers from Rood & Riddle also recommended them,” Bernal said. “I believe The Sanctuary has the experience and the equipment that I need for my horses.”

Bernal owns and competes three stallions: Halbgott, a Trakehner stallion who qualified for the 2007 Pan Am Games; Farewell IV, a Westphalian stallion who earned the world record at WEF in 2005; and Maybach, a Westphalian stallion who earned the highest score at the National Horse Show in 2004. “All three of my stallions are receiving treatment from The Sanctuary and they are responding very well,” Bernal said. “Thanks to The Sanctuary’s Magnawave Therapy, my stallions are more comfortable, happy and relaxed in their work. The Magnawave helps the horses to stay loose, which is a wonderful way of preventing injuries.”

Bernal said the therapy his stallions are receiving has come at the perfect time. “I am leaving next week for the Central American Games in Puerto Rico with Farewell IV and I feel this is a great way to provide extra care before we go,” Bernal said. “For Halbgott this is great therapy as we prepare for the World Equestrian Games. It will help him perform at his best.”

Bernal grew up in Colombia where he developed his love for horses on his father’s farm. He was the first Latin American to graduate from the prestigious German riding school Warendorf, and has since gone on to make a name for himself as a top dressage rider. Bernal’s accomplishments include riding for Colombia in multiple Pan American Games, as well as winning a silver medal in the 1999 Pan Am Games.

“We are really excited to have Marco on board with The Sanctuary. He is a talented dressage rider, takes great care of his stallions and is a lovely person,” said Brenda McDuffee, General Manager of The Sanctuary. “We believe the preventative care and therapy that Marco’s stallions are receiving from The Sanctuary will help each stallion as they compete and continue to set records and win medals.”

Located on 30 acres in Ocala, The Sanctuary Equine Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation Center is a multi-million dollar facility that offers the latest in technological equipment designed to promote safe and rapid advancement for horses recovering from injury or in need of training. The Sanctuary’s skilled staff is thoroughly trained and knowledgeable, with a passion for horses and the desire to see each horse return well rested, fit and ready to perform at the top of his game.
