Diederique Van Der Knaap and Joy Slater Win Junior/Amateur-Owner Classics in Vermont

East Dorset, Vermont – Week five of the 2012 Vermont Summer Festival concluded on Sunday, August 5, with two exciting Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics featured in the grand prix ring at Harold Beebe Farm.  Diederique Van Der Knaap, of New York, NY, rode Clive to victory in the $10,000 SJHOF High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic while Joy Slater, of Unionville, PA, topped the $5,000 NAL Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic riding Fat Chance Farm’s Silvester.  The six-week Vermont Summer Festival continues in East Dorset, VT, through August 12.

Michel Vaillancourt, of Aiken, SC, was the course designer for Sunday’s classes. In the $10,000 SJHOF High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, 11 entries showed in round one and four advanced to the jump-off.  Fifteen-year-old Diederique Van Der Knaap, showing in the high division for her first time ever, qualified both of her two mounts for the jump-off and took home the first and fourth place honors.

Katie Tyler and Megan McDermott Claim Junior/Amateur-Owner Classics

East Dorset, Vermont – Week four of the 2012 Vermont Summer Festival concluded on Sunday, July 29, with two exciting Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics featured in the grand prix ring.  Katie Tyler, 19, of North Kingstown, RI, rode Seattle 6 to victory in the $10,000 SJHOF High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic while Megan McDermott, 16, of New Milford, CT, topped the $5,000 NAL Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic riding La Vie Este Belle.  The six-week Vermont Summer Festival equestrian competition is running at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT, from July 4 through August 12, 2012.

Course designer Ken Krome of Westminster, MD set challenging tracks for Sunday’s Classic competitions.  Just two out of 17 entries jumped off in the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic while three out of 27 made it to the deciding round in the Low Classic.  A tricky rollback turn to a plank vertical seemed to make the difference in speed, as some entries chose to make the turn to the right, while others opted to turn left.

Devin Ryan and Roman Saluut Scale $30,000 Mount Equinox Grand Prix

East Dorset, Vermont – Devin Ryan of Long Valley, NJ, scored his second consecutive grand prix victory at the 2012 Vermont Summer Festival by winning the $30,000 Mount Equinox Grand Prix, sponsored by Hand Motors, on Saturday, July 28.  The six-week Vermont Summer Festival, held at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT, began on July 4 and continues through August 12.

Hot off his victory one week earlier riding No Worries in the $30,000 Otter Creek Grand Prix, Presented by Equinox Resort & Spa, Ryan piloted his athletic gray stallion, Roman Saluut, to the top spot in the $30,000 Mount Equinox Grand Prix.

A total of 23 horse and rider combinations contested Saturday’s Grand Prix, navigating a technical track set by course designer Ken Krome of Westminster, MD.  Seven were able to post first-round clears to advance to the jump-off, where it was the lightning fast round of Devin Ryan and Roman Saluut that earned top prize.  Thursday’s $10,000 Welcome Stake winners, Darragh Kenny and Tonic, were forced to settle for second this time out, with Kenny also taking the third place prize aboard Valentino.
