Tracy Fenney & MTM Apple Win Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake and Power & Speed Stake CSI 2*

Mill Spring, NC – October 3, 2019 – Tracy Fenney (USA) and MTM Apple kicked off Tryon Fall 3 with two back-to-back FEI wins, claiming Thursday’s $36,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 2* on a jump-off time of 39.032 seconds. Kristen VanderVeen (USA) and Bull Run’s Prince of Peace, the 2009 Holsteiner gelding (Cardenio x Contender) owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC, earned second-place honors with a 40.401 second short-course performance, while Fenney also received third, this time aboard MTM Reve Du Paradis, the 2005 Selle Francais gelding (Crown Z x Adelfos) owned by MTM Farm, following their clear jump-off round in a time of 40.499 seconds.

Fenney shared that the 2011 Danish Warmblood mare (Favorit Ask x Willemoes) owned by MTM Farm has been improving with every round in the ring. “She was great, even better than yesterday. It was a hard 1.45m, but it was good to get her in the ring and get her in gear.”

Course designer Peter Grant (CAN) hosted 56 entries in the first round of competition, with 22 horse-and-rider pairs qualifying to attempt the short course. After being knocked out of the lead on her other mount, Fenney was determined to get back in the lead with MTM Apple. “She’s really fast and she’s super straightforward. I mean, from one to two she did that like a gem, and I was so impressed with her.”

Fenney and MTM Apple also dominated Wednesday’s $5,000 Power & Speed CSI 2* to start the week on a high note, stopping the speed phase timers in 30.76 seconds. Kristen VanderVeen (USA) and Bull Run’s Living, the 2009 Zangersheide mare (Quasimodo x Wolfgang) owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC, claimed second in a time of 32.306 seconds, while Lauren Tisbo (USA) rounded out the all-American, all-female podium aboard Tequestrian Farms LLC’s Casco 11, the 2009 Holsteiner gelding (Caspar x Colman), putting in a speed phase time of 34.714 seconds.

“She’s fairly new, so that’s why I showed her today,” Fenney said of the 2011 Danish Warmblood mare (Favorit Ask x Willemoes) owned by MTM Farm. “She’s very straightforward and has a very good attitude about what she does. I was a little bit worried because it’s so hot this week, so I wasn’t sure if I should show her today, but because she’s so new we decided to show her in a class. I love her; she felt great.”

Fenney and the mare have been building their relationship over the past year, she explained. “We imported her last year and we have been doing little things and some Grands Prix. Every time we show her, she gets better and better.

“I guess we’ll see what our plans are this week; I’m doing the welcome stake with three horses and I’ll kind of pick and choose what I’ll do Saturday night from there. Whatever horse doesn’t go Saturday, I’ll do on Sunday,” Fenney concluded.

Santiago Lambre and Con Rouet Clinch the Win in $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake

Mill Spring, NC – October 1, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Con Rouet claimed Thursday’s $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake after finishing the jump-off in a time of 41.829 seconds to kick off Tryon Fall 2 competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) at Tryon Resort. Johan Kachelhoffer (Princeton, NJ) aboard his own Copit Della Caccia, a 2008 Italian Warmblood stallion (Copito x Campbell), finished in second place with a jump-off time of 43.187 seconds, while Grant Seger (Corpus Christi, TX) piloted the Grey Fox Crossing-owned Dr. J, a 2008 Italian Warmblood gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Calando I), to round out the podium on a time of 41.369 seconds to earn third.

Course designer Nick Granat (Chicago, IL) had 12 horse-and-rider pairs in the initial round and welcomed back four entries in the jump-off. Although Lambre and the 2010 Oldenburg gelding (Conthargos x Balou Du Rouet) owned by Salvador Onate Barron came out in the lead after their final round, Con Rouet has been getting a break from jumping “as much” while Lambre competed at Saugerties, NY.

“Although this is his first week [back] now, Con Rouet is a super careful horse and very competitive,” Lambre explained. “The first round was not easy, especially for a national welcome, and I was not super-fast [in the jump-off] since there were only four, but it ended up being a good risk since the last rider [Grant Seger] was faster but had the last rail down.”

Con Rouet did not compete in Fall 2 competition following his win, but Lambre did return to Tryon Stadium for a win aboard Diathago in Saturday’s $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix. “I’m preparing Con Rouet for Wellington to have him ready to do the speed classes there. I think his level is gonna be 1.45m, but that’s okay because if he’s fast it’s good. He’s going to be a really competitive horse,” Lambre concluded.

Gavin Moylan and String of Pearls Claim Champion in the Pulse Equine Performance Hunter Combined 3’3”/3’6” Division

The Pulse Equine Performance Hunter Combined 3’3”/3’6” Division saw Gavin Moylan (Middleburg, VA) and Priscilla Denegre’s String of Pearls come out on top for champion honors, while Colleen Acosta (Roanoke, TX) piloted Olive, owned by Ryann Grissom, to reserve honors.

Moylan shared that String of Pearls, who is owned by his wife’s mother, has been a member of his program for about five years and has been very successful. “I found her [String of Pearls] in Germany as a four-year-old and immediately she suited my wife’s mother, Penny Denegre, who has had horses with me for a long time and is a great supporter of this sport. She’s just been a winner since we’ve had her.”

Although Moylan enjoys showing the mare himself, he explained that “it’s really about Penny this year,” and that his main goal for String of Pearls is simply to prepare her to compete at the upcoming indoor shows. “Penny qualified for Harrisburg and Washington [International Horse Show], which is a big deal in the adults and we’re very excited for her to go there.”

Santiago Lambre and Diathago Deliver $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix Victory

Mill Spring, NC – September 28, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Diathago sped to win the $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), halting the jump-off timers at 40.372 seconds. Tiffany Hammack (Hawthorn Woods, IL) and Crack Elle Chavannaise, a 2008 Belgian Sporthorse mare (Carving x Unknown) owned by Beyaert Farm Inc, took second place for their performance of 40.734 seconds, while Theo Genn (Lebanon, OH) and Firewall, a 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Lexicon x Padinus) owned by Eduardo Leon, claimed third-place honors with a time of 40.822 seconds.

“Diathago is a new horse I’ve had now for two months. I jumped him three weeks ago in the 5* Grand Prix in Saugerties, which we won. We were one of only two pairs clear; it was a really tough course,” Lambre said. “Now I’m preparing him for the 5* here in three weeks.”

The course, designed by Nick Granat (Chicago, IL), challenged 29 pairs, with eight returning to pilot the short course. “It was a really nice course for a National Standard Grand Prix,” Lambre shared. “I think it was tough enough, but didn’t have terrible results.

“I wanted to jump under the lights with him [Diathago] since he’s never done that before, but he wasn’t spooky at all,” Lambre, who has big hopes for the 2009 Oldenburg gelding (Diarado x Carthago) owned by Gestut Lewitz, revealed. “The plan is next year to do the Nations Cup in Wellington and I also think this horse has the potential for the Olympics.”

A Grand Finale for Eugenio Garza and Bariano to Conclude Tryon Fall 3 CSI 3*

Mill Spring, NC – October 14, 2018 – Eugenio Garza (MEX) celebrated his longtime mount, Bariano, after their 33.01 second jump-off round to win the $35,000 1.45m Sunday Classic CSI 3* at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Karen Polle (JPN) claimed reserve honors aboard her own Little Lord 90, a 2005 Holsteiner stallion (Lasino x Calato), clearing the short course in 34.835 seconds, while Kristen Vanderveen (USA) and Bull Run’s Almighty charged to third place on a 35.043 second performance by the 2008 Hanoverian gelding (Caspar x Quidam De Revel) owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC.

The course set by Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) saw 29 horse-and-rider pairs attempt the first round, with 12 entries returning for the short-course test. Early in the order of go, Garza and the 2001 Belgian Warmblood gelding (Jetset-D x Skippy) owned by David and Monica Garza put in a blazing clear performance that couldn’t be beaten.

“My horse jumped beautifully, and it was a really, really special class because it was his last class in the U.S.,” Garza revealed. “Bariano gets retired in two weeks in Mexico, so this is a nice way to finish his career in the U.S. It was a fun class, and the course designer did a great job, I thought.”

Garza, who has partnered with the now-17-year-old gelding for many years throughout his development as a rider, emphasized how much he owes Bariano: “My relationship with him has been everything. He took me from children’s jumpers to where I am now, and he’s an amazing horse. I’m not usually emotional, but it’s nice. I owe everything to him, but he owes me nothing.”

Of the many memories Garza has with Bariano, including competing across the globe at the FEI level, Tryon in particular holds a special moment, he explained. “I have to say the 5* last year here in Tryon was pretty special with him,” Garza recounted of his second-place performance in the $380,000 Rolex Grand Prix CSI 5* just over a year ago at TIEC. “For a horse I started with in the children’s jumpers and [to end up on the podium in that class] with him as well – that was really special, and is one of my fondest memories of him.”

As he looks ahead to competing in the Tryon Fall 4 CSI 5* next week before returning to Mexico, Garza will be partnering with another mount, but Bariano’s job well done for Garza over the years will remain front and center.

After a week of ups and downs, Garza was thankful to conclude the Tryon Fall 3 CSI 3* week on such a positive note, he explained. “Well, I fell off yesterday on a green horse, so today is a great improvement from yesterday! That’s just horses for you. One day you lose, and one day you win, and you take it as it comes. Today we celebrate, and I’m thankful I have this special horse with me.”

Holly Shepherd and MTM Making Waves Conquer the $10,000 USHJA National Derby

Holly Shepherd of Grand Bay, AL piloted MTM Making Waves for owner Mary Antonini to victory in Friday’s $10,000 USHJA National Derby at TIEC, producing a two-round score of 172. Reserve honors went to Mountain Brook, AL native Timothy Maddrix and Missy Nolen’s Man Up, taking home a score of 171, while Shepherd also collected third place honors aboard Barbara Risius’ Longstreet, scoring 168.5.

“MTM Making Waves is a First Year 3’6″ Green Hunter, as they call them,” Shepherd explained. “I’ve had him with some customers for a couple of years and showed him as a Pre-Green horse. He’s won a few of these derbies, so I’ve got some faith in him by round two. He was really good and he’s a special horse. He has a giant step.”

For a hunter, there are a couple distinguishing factors about her mount, Shepherd noted. “He’s a little strong-willed, and I’m not sure that’s my favorite thing about him,” she joked. “His look in the ring is so beautiful that when I walk in the ring I feel confident and people are like, ‘wow!’ That is probably my favorite thing about him. He wows the judges when he walks in, so I always feel like I’m starting a little ahead on that one, which is nice. I look the part.”

Kent Farrington and Creedance Refresh the Ring with Win in $35k 1.50m Welcome Stake CSI 3*

Mill Spring, NC – October 12, 2018 – Kent Farrington (USA) and Creedance secured the win in the $35,000 1.50m Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3* at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) as part of Equus Events Tryon Fall 3 CSI 3* competition. Farrington flew through the jump-off in tandem with Creedance, a 2007 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Lord Z x Notaris) owned by himself and R.C.G. Farm and stopped the timers in 35.942 seconds to top the class. Vanessa Mannix (CAN) rode into second place with her own Catinka 25, a 2009 Oldenburg mare (Catoki x Luxano) and acquired a jump-off time of 37.761 seconds and Spencer Brittan (USA) took third with his own Uncle Blue, a 2008 Swedish Warmblood gelding (Chacco-Blue x Robin Z), stopping the timers in 39.258 seconds.

Among 47 entries and only eight pairs returning to test the short course set by course designer Michel Vaillancourt (CAN), Farrington and Creedance put in an untouchable performance to land at the top of the order. “My horse is naturally very fast, so for us, a good strategy is just kind of keeping his natural speed, and that’s usually good enough to win. He’s a top horse; he’s won big Grand Prixs all over the world.” Concerning the morning’s cooler temperature, Farrington commented, “He [Creedance] likes the cool weather. I think all horses like it. They prefer it a little bit colder; they have more energy and are more excited to jump.”

Farrington suffered a leg injury last winter, but bounced back from the fracture in three months. “I’ve been back for a while. Exactly 12 weeks later, I was already showing 5* Grand Prix’s, so it really didn’t slow me down that much. It gave my horses a little more rest than usual, but since then it’s been business as usual.”

The Olympian recently competed in Europe for a successful summer circuit, but is now stateside to continue touring. “I just got back from Europe myself, so this is a good way to kick off our tour here,” he said of returning to compete at TIEC. Farrington plans to ride another of his well-known mounts, Gazelle, in Saturday night’s $132,000 Adequan® Grand Prix CSI 3*.

Kerins Bests the $5,000 1.40m Power & Speed Stake in Tryon

In Wednesday’s $5,000 1.40m Power & Speed Stake CSI 3*, Ireland’s Darragh Kerins (IRL) took top honors aboard Ringwood Zebo, a 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Califax x Ringwood Audacity) owned by Samantha Rice. Kerins completed the jump-off in 35.08 seconds. Just moments behind, Shane Sheetnam (IRL) earned a jump-off time of 36.23 seconds riding Stalanda Z, a 2008 Oldenburg mare, (Stakkotol x Colander) owned by Seabrook LLC, and Freddie Vazquez (PUR) with Bull Run’s Testify, a 2004 Selle Francais gelding, owned by Bull Run Jumpers Inc. took third with a time of 38.849 seconds.

David O’Brien Claims $5,000 Tryon Resort 1.40m Speed Stake CSI 3* for Ireland

Ireland’s David O’Brien rode KIR Royal SCF to victory in the $5,000 1.40m Tryon Resort Speed Stake CSI 3* in a field of 23 pairs, besting the Michel Vaillancourt (CAN) designed course in 59.46 seconds with the 2010 Belgian Warmblood gelding (Amaretto D’Arco x Nabab De Reve) owned by Spy Coast Farm, LLC. Stephanie Macieira (BRA) and Randon Pleasure, a 2005 Selle Francais mare (For Pleasure x Quidam De Revel) owned by Bonne Chance Farm, claimed second-place honors after their 60.69 second performance, while Rowan Willis (AUS) guided Italian Gold van De Kruishoeve, a 2008 Belgian Warmblood mare owned by Samantha Buirs, to a third-place finish after stopping the timers in 61.01 seconds.

Parot Conquers $35,000 1.45m Sunday Classic CSI 2*

Mill Spring, NC – October 7, 2018 – The first week of fall competition concluded on Sunday, October 7 at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), after Samuel Parot (CHI) and his own Atlantis claimed the only faultless round of the afternoon in the $35,000 1.45m Sunday Classic CSI 2*. The Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport has become a schedule staple for Parot, who frequents the venue through the summer months as well.

Blazing through first round timers in 80.37 seconds Parot and the 2003 Zangersheide stallion (Andiamo x Royal Bravour L) received exclusive praise for maneuvering the day’s Peter Grant (CAN) designed course with ease. “The horse was really good this week,” commented Parot. “On Thursday in the Welcome, he was clear with only one rail in the jump-off, but very fast. Last night in the Grand Prix I rode very poorly, so today I am so happy for the win.”

Of the course, Parot noted that it looked to be an easy ride, but proved the majority of its contenders wrong. “The courses for the week have appeared to be somewhat easy, but they have all turned out to be very technical. They have been good for the horses and more complex for the riders.”

Celso Ariani (BRA) and Ricardo Romero’s 2009 Belgian Warmblood stallion Janari Ter Dolen, took second place honors after crossing through timers in 84.34 seconds and with four faults. Third place went to Ireland’s David Blake, piloting Pine Hollow Farm’s Keoki, a 2009 Holsteiner (Catoki x Cassini I), to a time of 86.84 and with four added faults.

Jonathan Corrigan and Loughnavatta Indigo Take Top Honors in $70k Ingles Grand Prix CSI 2*

Mill Spring, NC – October 6, 2018 – Jonathan Corrigan (IRL) and Loughnavatta Indigo secured first place in the $70,000 Ingles Grand Prix CSI 2* in the first “Saturday Night Lights” of the 2018 Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC).

Corrigan and Loughnavatta Indigo, a 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Luidam x VDL Arkansas) owned by Twin Oak Stables, Inc., crossed through the timers in 42.216 seconds in the jump-off to rise as the winning combination. Subsequently, Lauren Tisbo (USA) and Jeleena De Muse, a 2008 Belgian Warmblood mare (Tornedo FCS x Chin Chin) owned by Tequestrian Games, LLC., placed second with a jump-off time of 42.97 seconds and Darragh Kerins (IRL) aboard Ringwood Zebo, a 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Califax x Ringwood Audacity) owned by Samantha Rice, took third place on the podium with a final time of 43.88 seconds.

With a class of 34 entries and only seven competitors moving forward to the jump-off, Corrigan and Loughnavatta Indigo rose to the top of the leaderboard. “I have a tendency to go a little bit too fast in the jump-off, so today I tried to be a little smoother and tighter and not pull on the reins or kick as much and it worked,” the Irishman remarked.

Corrigan bought the nine-year old gelding last autumn. “I jumped him here in the 2* last year and that was his first night class. He was little green, but he jumped clear. Since then, he’s improved a lot, and even jumped his first 5* a couple of weeks ago.”

Detailing his nine-year-old mount, Corrigan continued, “He’s a good horse. He’s got a lot of personality, more personality than any other horse I’ve had. He might look plain, but he’s very sensitive and a very good boy. We might do the 3* next week or we will wait and do the 5* the week after that.

“It’s a great atmosphere here because everybody comes out, horse people and non-horse people alike. The crowd really focuses on you and people come to spectate and have a good time,” concluded Corrigan.

Fabio Leivas Da Costa and Tosca De L’Esques Ride Home with Blue at Tryon Fall Series

Mill Spring, NC – October 4, 2018 – Fabio Leivas Da Costa (BRA) and Tosca De L’Esques took the victory in the $35,000 1.45m Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 2* to kick off Tryon Fall 2 at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Leivas Da Costa and the 2007 Selle Francais mare (Cardento x Apache D’adriers) stopped the short-course timers in 38.03 seconds to secure the win, while reserve honors went to Santiago Lambre (BRA) and Dingeman, a 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Nintender x Darnels), after their 38.03 second jump-off performance. Third place was awarded to Marilyn Little (USA) with Clearwater, a 2007 Holsteiner gelding (Clearway x Come On), who cleared the jump-off in 39.671 seconds.

A field of 43 horse-and-rider pairs toured the first-round course with 19 entries returning to test their luck on the jump-off track set by Peter Grant (CAN). Before riding the jump-off, Leivas Da Costa and his team observed previous competitors and set goals. “We talked before the class and set a time goal of 37 seconds. We actually earned 38 seconds, but still earned first,” Leivas Da Costa explained.

Leivas Da Costa, concerning his mount, stated, “Tosca De L’Esques has a big heart. She is willing, and tries as hard as she can. She never says, ‘no,’ she just says, ‘where do I go next?'” He continued, “She has a really huge stride and is a fast, forward horse. She really fights for us.”

Tryon Fall Series Concludes with Final Win for Samuel Parot and Couscous Van Orti

Mill Spring, NC – October 29, 2017 – Competition concluded at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) with a win for Samuel Parot (CHI) and Couscous Van Orti in the $25,000 Tryon Sunday Classic during the final week of the Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. Second place was captured by Margie Engle (USA) piloting Bockmanns Lazio, a 2000 Westphalian stallion (Lancer II x Cesseria) owned by Gladewinds Partners, LLC, stopping jump-off timers in 36.612 seconds. Third place was awarded to Emanuel Andrade (VEN) and his own Ricore Courcelle, a 2005 Selle Francais stallion (Quaprice Bois Margot x Dancing Bride), after completing their fast track round in 36.672 seconds.

The 2017 Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) served as one of the most highly anticipated circuit opportunities in North America during the fall season. The season featured four weeks of internationally-sanctioned FEI competition and distributed more than $1.9 million in prize money across the hunter, jumper, and equitation disciplines throughout the total six weeks at TIEC.

Parot and the 2002 Belgian Warmblood gelding (Nabab De Reve x Vroni Van Orti), who he has guided in the ring for several years, have competed successfully around the world, including an appearance at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

The duo raced around the day’s course designed by Anthony D’Ambrosio (USA) and completed the jump-off in 36.023 seconds. Nine of the original 36 entries moved forward to contest the short course. Parot commented on his go around the track, saying, “I didn’t have that great of a week because with all of my horses I kept having one down. Today, I stayed very concentrated and I had two horses clear for the jump-off. My first horse, VDL Aberlino, had two down in the jump-off. But this horse, Couscous Van Orti, is very fast.”

Parot watched intently as Andrade and Engle navigated their way through the short course, tailoring his plan for the jump-off. “I saw Emanuel and Margie go very quick, so I tried to make my turns much tighter than theirs. I wasn’t so worried about the time because this horse is so fast. Obviously, I had a good final result with him today.”

As the season ends, Parot’s horses will go on vacation and head to Wellington, FL to prepare for their winter circuit. “It’s vacation now for the horses. The three horses I have here will go and I have horses arriving from Europe that I will begin showing in national shows to prepare for the start of the Winter Equestrian Festival.”

The $1,000 Green Hunter 3’/3’3″ Classic saw Liza Boyd of Camden, SC and Callahan, owned by Rolling Hills Show Stables, finish atop the class on a score of 168. Jason Berry of Verona, VA and Credence, owned by Lee Cesery, collected second place after amassing a score of score of 167.5. Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL and Exceptional finished in third place after achieving a score of 165.

The $500 Medium/Large Pony Hunter was topped by Jessie Marie Spade of Terrell, NC and her own Eddie Bauer after receiving a score of 163. Morgan Ashby of Lincolnton, NC captured the second-place spot aboard Beatrix Potter, owned by Ashby, after scoring a 162.5. Third place was awarded to Linen Owens of Marion, NC and Cloud Nine, ending the day with a 150.

The $1,000 Amateur Owner Hunter 3’3″/3’6″ Classic saw a victory for Annie Diehl of Bristow, VA and her own Cosil, after completing the day with a score of 167.5. Second place saw a win for Lee Cesery of St Augustine, FL and Central Park, after a score of 166. Third place went to Alisa Berry of Verona, VA and Michael Cline’s Phantom, after a final score of 144.

Elly Ficca of Charlotte, NC and Quatrain took top honors in the $1,000 Junior Hunter 3’3″/3’6″ Classic after completing their course with a score of 139. Kara Jones of Cornelius, NC and Chello, owned by Jones, took second place honors with a score of 138, while Robert Milligan of Boca Raton, FL and his own Fresco rounded out the top three with a 136.

The Absorbine Green Hunter 3′ Division was topped by Liza Boyd of Camden, SC and Rolling Hills Show Stables’ Callahan as the pair took divisional honors, while Nikko Ritter of Geneva, FL and Kathryn Haefner LLC’s Marshall finished with reserve champion honors.

The Children’s Hunter Pony Division saw Elodie Watrous of Evanston, IL and her own Crystal Acres Chocolatier, finish as division champions, while Elizabeth Smith of Spartanburg, SC took reserve aboard Double Gold, owned by Smith.

The USHJA Hunter 3′ Division saw Thomas Serio of Arberdeen, SC and Winston, owned by Nokomis Farm, take top divisional honors, while Jennifer Smith of Wellington, FL and her own Quincento took reserve champion, alongside Suzanne Russell of Tryon, NC who also captured reserve aboard Shadowman, owned by Megan Hill.

The USHJA Hunter 2’9″ Division saw Steve Heinecke of Charlotte, NC take top honors aboard his own Pink, ahead of Dana Senn of Chicago, IL and her own Baricello, who captured reserve champion.

Margie Engle and Indigo Win $25k Tryon Resort Grand Prix to Conclude Competition at Tryon

Hilary McNerney Pilots Contact to Top of $10,000 Under 25 Grand Prix

Mill Spring, NC – October 30, 2016 – Margie Engle of Wellington, FL and Indigo took home top honors in $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) on the final day of competition of the 2016 Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District. Engle and Indigo claimed the victory with a speedy jump-off time of 39.42 seconds, while Ilan Ferder of Wellington, FL and Hunter ST Anna Z earned second place honors with a time of 40.121 seconds. Trailing by only milliseconds to claim third with a time of 40.174 seconds was Alberto Michan of Royal Palm Beach, FL aboard Chacco’s Goldy.

Engle and Indigo, a 2000 Dutch Warmblood stallion (Indoctro x Aea Dutch Lorel) owned by Gladewinds Partners LLC, completed the track set by Guilherme Jorge (BRA) early in the order before advancing to the jump-off. The course asked technical questions of adjustability and scope. Engle detailed her specific plan with her veteran partner Indigo.

“I’ve had Indigo for a really long time so the plan was pretty set with him. The first round was built a little bigger than I expected, but it was a very good track. The plank into the double was tricky, but I felt like he handled it great,” Engle added about her first round. “He has a very adjustable stride and he knows where all of his parts are. This course allowed him to open up.”

“In the jump-off, I was hoping to leave out a stride but he jumped so hard that he landed a little shallow. He is very quick and well balanced in the turns, always right there for me. I took a shot with the long gallop down to the last fence and he handled it very well,” Engle added.

Engle and Indigo have been partners for almost a decade now, competing successfully around the world, including a career highlight of winning the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2004. Engle is very selective with what shows she chooses to compete Indigo in now that he is getting a little older.

“He’s been a great horse for me. He loves what he does and is such a fighter in the ring. He is actually quite hard to control in the schooling ring,” Engle added with a laugh. “He is always trying and he would hate sitting at home. In his brain he thinks he is three and he has more energy than all of my horses put together.”

Engle and her team will head down to Wellington, FL for the winter, but she hopes to return to Tryon in the future, specifically during the 2017 season. She reflected on her experiences at TIEC, saying, “It is a fantastic facility. It is a first class facility for everyone and it has everything you want. There are tons of places to ride, big schooling rings, delicious restaurants, and unbelievable crowds. We hope to be back next year.”

The $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix offered competitors the opportunity to dress in costume for Halloween. Brittni Raflowitz of Palm City, FL was presented with the “Best Costume” award dressing herself and her mount, Baloumina Du Ry, as paratroopers.

Hilary McNerney Pilots Contact to Top of $10,000 Under 25 Grand Prix

Hilary McNerney of Lake Forest, IL and her own Contact collected the win in the $25,000 Under 25 Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). McNerney and Contact finished ahead of a competitive class, edging Fabio Andres Rodriguez of Colombia and Venus for the victory. The winning combination finished the track in George H. Morris Arena with a time of 30.809 seconds, while Rodriguez and Venus collected second place after crossing through the timers in 31.529 seconds. Emanuel Andrade of Wellington, FL and Belita took third place honors, completing their jump-off round in 31.72 seconds.

McNerney and Contact bested the three-horse jump-off after riding a forward and accurate round to finish ahead of Friday’s $5,000 Under 25 Welcome winners Rodriguez and Venus. McNerney has had a strong campaign at TIEC, finishing 10th aboard Z Acodate DDL in the $130,000 Asheville/Greenville BMW Centers’ Grand Prix CSI 3*.
